Definitely wierd. Clark suffers for 3+ years without Lana, including the very reasons why he can't be with her even though she has given him the green light.

Then he gets her for a few months.

Then he has to lose her again due to the same reasons he couldn't have her before. He knows that at one point he saved her and lost his dad.

And here is Lana, dream girl of Smallville High boys, had 2+ steady boyfriends, lusty target of a millionaire. All freaking out because she got dumped and can't handle it.

I know that's not the real reason she seeks solace in this but she did mention about it briefly in the opening sequence.
