For me, the most interesting scene of "Hypnotic" was the scene where Martha suggested to Clark that he had not told Lana his secret because he knew deep down that she was not "the one."
After all the episodes (i.e. Reckoning) where Clark tells his family/Chloe that he couldn't tell Lana the truth because he was protecting her, do you think it could have been really because deep down he knew he loved Lana but would only share his secret with the girl he knew he would spend his life with?
I know he did share his secret with Lana in Reckoning, but that didn't last long :). I just thought it was interesting that Martha would take this route in her talk with Clark. Any thoughts???

I thought that line was sort of contrived. Just to add more fuel to the break-up of Clana.
Btw OP, what episode is your avatar scene from? I have to rewatch that episode to refresh my memory then.

Well, I am a Clois fan so of course I am going to agree with Martha...I think he only told Lana because he was scared to lose her because he thought he wanted that...now he realizes what he has known all along...that Lana was just his first crush and he wanted it to work so bad but realizes now that he is destined to be with someone else that can understand him
you may want to also check out the Clark is a moronic wimp thread...we've been discussing this (sorta)

I think Martha was dead on. If she was the one, he would have found a way to tell her. But what makes her not the one, is that Lex can read her, she allows herself to be manipulated. She doesn't recognize good or evil when it stares her in the face.
Not to mention she goes behind his back with Lex, researching the meteor showers she told him earlier she was done with. She has proved he can't trust her.

Why Didn't Clark ever tell Lana his secret???
Personally, i think its because tptb feel the need to maintain that particular angst in the show. Once Lana learns Clark's secret, there isnt anyone left that is "in the dark" within Clark's inner circle.
The other big names, Lex and Lois, can't learn the truth yet (according to comic cannon i guess?). So unless the show introduces another person that can be placed into that position, then Lana is left holding the clueless stick.

Personally I think that Clark is just afraid to tell her, but it has nothing to do with her not "being the one." He obviously loves her (and who wouldnt). That was clear by "reckoning," after he told her and she accepted his proposal, they were both clearly super happy.
And there's something people are forgetting when they talk about this topic. When he told her his secret he also asked her to MARRY him. And I'm pretty sure he wouldnt do that unless he thought she was the one.
Its merely another inconcistency by the writers, everything they write and have clark and Lana do is leading us to believe they should be together. Ever since season one I've been watching and waiting for them to get together, get married and live happily ever after, even though I know it isnt whats supposed to happen.
Thats why this question is so confusing, because everything besides the history of superman says he should ask lana.

i think clark still thinks lana is the one at this moment. i think he is really just afraid to tell her because the one time he did tell her she died so he is really sceared of losing her. i think after lexana clark will know deep down lana is not the girl he will spend the rest of his life with.

i can't understand why people think what martha said was so out of the blue. She's said the same exact thing once before. I forget which epi, but it went something like"well maybe she isnt the one" then clark says, "mom i cant imagine loving anyone else" the lois convienently pulls up in her car. And not to mention the countless times martha has said, "i'm not sure if its lana, but i know there is someone out there for you". Besides it was painfully obvious that clark didn't deny what martha said, in fact his face looked to me like he was thinking "thats a possibilty"

Plus had Clark have told him his secret about himself, Lana being a bit angry at the time could have easily walked over to Lex's like she was going to do, and this time she would have possibly told everything about Clark to Lex.

In Reckoning.Yes,they were so happy and they were even fiancés,a dream comes true. What was the first thing that Lana did?She went to see Lex...What in the world was she thinking???She went to see his fiancé's not so called friend when she had everything that she wanted:the truth and a ring? You have to understand that this girl can't ever be trusted with the secret when she's stills friend with Lex Luthor:mad:
