View Full Version : Mobile Metropolis?

Seriously, is the whole city of Metropolis sitting on a giant, movable platform? It seems the distance between Smallville and Metropolis drastically changes with every episode. In a past episode, it was mentioned that it was a 3-hour round-trip drive.
Now, in this episode, it's implied that Metropolis is at most 20 minutes away, especially considering Lana is called back to Smallville just after getting back to her dorm room in Metropolis, and it doesn't seem like much time has passed between her getting called and arriving in the barn to catch Clark and Simone.
Should I just chalk it up to a plothole?

I have a feeling you are not the only one who feels this way. Apart from Clark's motorcycle ride in the season 2 finale, it seems like most other times the ride isn't that far.

I know it's there in lots of episodes throughout the series, but I definitely agree that the time inconsistency was VERY present in this one.
For some reason, I really only felt it (like you mentioned bunkmania) when it concerned Lana going back to talk to Clark in Smallville. I'd have to go back and watch the episode, but I think it might have just been the way it was cut. It seems like maybe with Chloe and Lois, there may have been some intercutting with the other storyline (Lex in Honduras) that made up for the time.
We're supposed to just go with it, but we all know it's unrealistic :)
Lionel used to take his personal helicopter to Metropolis. I'm pretty sure it was said in one episode it was a 6 hour drive from Smallville to the big city. I guess we can blame urban sprawl.

It's just so weird how Lana's willing to take a 3-hour drive back to Smallville just to see her boyfriend and then another 3-hour drive back to the city. That she did twice. So she spent 12 hours traveling. That's half the day.

My theory is that the last meteor shower created a time vortex on the road between Metropolis and Smallville. Now it only takes a half hour tops to make the trip. ;)
