And the writers are turning Clark into a sorry excuse.

Lana is supposed to be one of the most important people in his life and not only does he flat out lie to her AGAIN, he destroys their friendship too.

All he had to say was "Lana, I will always love you, but there are some things in my life that I can never reveal and I can't continue to see you hurt like this". Instead he lies to her saying that he doesn't love her anymore intentionally while knowing it would hurt her? Thats way out of character, and its the opposite of Superman. Only a coward would take that route.

This is definitely the worst episode of Smallville I've ever seen. The writers seem to be making Clark regress instead of growing up.

He said "I love you and always will" a few episodes back, and where did that get us? A few more rotations on the merry go 'round.

It nees to be definitive. And I think he did make the right 'grown up' choice. I think they've been growing apart for some time. He's got a lot more to worry about than just a relationship with a girl. And, as I said in another thread, love shouldn't be so much work.

There's reasons he didn't tell her, that he didn't trust her--and now that we see her running to Lex (even after she and Clark are engaged) it's obvious he made the right choice by not telling her.

He never broke up with her before. He said he loved her but never said anything about ending the relationship. The thing that gets me is that he lied again for the millionth time. Superman isn't supposed to be a liar. It makes him look like a coward.

But, he is not superman yet. Smallville is very big on this being about Clark's teenage years and his becoming a man. We are taught certain moral ideals as a child from our parents, so I am sure Ma and Pa Kent taught him not to lie (except for the secret thing) but as you get older, sooner or later you test those theories and either come back with your parents were right or they were wrong or some variation thereof. Maybe all of the fallout and pain from the lies we see him tell as he grows up will teach the adult Clark/Superman the importance of Truth.

I think that the reason Clark lied though it doesn't seem likely the way they are writing him, is b/c Lana will just say no. He wants her to just stop, I guess maybe he thought that was the only way to get the message across to her.

Clark isnt a kid anymore.

He needs to be more Superman than Superpansy.

I agree to some extent. Smallville is getting a bit ridiculous. The characters have become so flat.

Just poor writing.

Yeah, the story is getting more exciting (i.e. we are finally getting some superman lore progression), but the writing is holding the show back a LOT.

**STOP** for a second and think about how REAL people act and reason. THEN, look at how smallville characters "reason" (except for Chloe/Martha/Lionel). Their actions are quite absurd.

I love the show because of the story. But the writing is just plain junk. The ratings will start to die off next season when people lose the excitment of the story progression we saw this season, and we get back to the vanilla FOTW stories.

Weak sauce.

It would all have gone a bit more interesting had lana just died in the 100th episode, and I know many others agree

We're forgetting one thing here people, Clark Kent is the biggest liar in DC. He lies every time he stumbles or drops something, he lies every time he hunches and tries to fade into the woodwork.

Superman doesn't lie, but Clark is a pathological liar and if he ever intends on having a semblance of a normal life he better get better at it. When he looked Lana in the eye and lied to her, that was really the first time I could actually see him becoming the Superman of legend.

And about the show getting dark...bring it on!

How in the world does making the show dark bring on Superman? That's ridiculous logic. Superman is not dark, he is supposed to represent the good of human kind.

What they need to do is lighten up the show and let Clark become a truly good, heroic character. Instead of a stressed out, vengeful, unsure young man.

He's already down in the mire, they need to lift him up, not push him further in.

Bring on the Light!

Dark in the sense of more evil. More real evil from brainiac and lex luthor. I dont mean making superman dark and groggy. Just the opposite. Intensify the evil, move lana aside to the trash can so that clark can lighten up and show us some real superman :) They promised us lex and clark would become mortal enemies, and thats what im waiting for. Bring on the darkness. <-

Agreed. More evil, thicker plotlines is gonna make for a cracking finale, of which Clark will emerge closer to being Superman than ever

Okay, I read this title and thought, "Yeah, the dark evil of Clark practically raping Simone in the beginning of the show. Come on, people, kids watch this show! It's about the beginnings of Superman, the goodness of this world. I will not let my kids watch most of this epi, once again, I will have to hit the fast forward. I hate that!"

BTW, I would like to see Clark light and happy, too. We got glimpses of it last night even though he was hypnotized. Smile on, Clark Kent!

This show can't handle dark. In fact, it doesn't even know how to stay in the light.
