I've seen quite a few fans of the fantasy genre on the board (Makes sense, seeing as we are on the Smallville boards. LOL) and thought I'd see if there are any Terry Pratchett fans.
I love Pratchett's Discworld series, especially the stories with Vimes in it. Vimes if my favorite of all Pratchett's characters. But I also enjoy many of his other Discworld books (except the Rincewind novels...don't know why but I cannot standthem!).
As for his other books, they are exceedingly difficult to find so I don't think I've read any. (Except Good Omens the book he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman, which I loved!)
So, anyone else a Pratchett fan?

P.S. This makes the second thread I have ever started on the Forum! Go me! :)

Yes! I love Terry Prachett! His stuff is so funny and kooky, it's not your average fantasy stuff.

I read the amazing illustrated "The Last Hero" and that was how I got hooked into his stuff. I've read a few of his books since then.

Which of his other books have you read, shadowcat?
And yeah "The Last Hero" was really good!

Let's see, I've only read a few -

The Wee Free Men - Wahoo!! That has to be my favorite of his books! It's the funniest, most fantastic, original story I've read in a long time.

The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents

The Bromeliad Trilogy:
Truckers, Diggers and Wings

And of course, The Last Hero :D

Hmmm...I really should read some of his Discworld novels

I just got a bunch of Pratchett books from the library again (I have a bunch that I own but not all) and the first two you listed were two I grabbed. :)

Sweet! I think you'll enjoy the Wee Free Men :D

The Amazing Maurice is fun, but it's not one of my favorites, the super rat thing kinda creeped me out

What do you recommend?

I've actually read both Wee Free Men and Maurice before, I was just getting them again.

Well, I love all the Vimes books, which the first one is Guards, Guards I think. My fave of the Vimes series is THe Fifth Elephant but that series should really be read in order.
I love The Truth, actually just finished it again.

I also love the Witches series with Granny Weatherwax and the ladies. ANd all the Death books Hogsfather is my fave there.

I can't wait for a new Discworld book (although it'll be a while, I know because Thud! just came out recently).

My sister just bought The Art of Discworld and lent it to me. I haven't read it yet but did leaf through it and already several people don't look anything like my mental pictures of them.

So I was looking at my subscription list (over 500!) and going through some of them and saw this. And it reminded me of the news my sister told me about last week (or maybe 2 weeks ago) that Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with early Onset Alzheimer's Disease.

Has anyone else heard about this? It's so sad. One of the greatest minds in fantasy...

I love Terry Pratchett - he is my idol and I respect him very much. I'm currently working on a fantasy novel much in the style of his - it incorporates humour into fantasy and I hope to be just as successful as him one day. Discworld is the best series of books imaginable.
