I was reading through my Entertainment Weekly and I always look at the top 10 Must List of things to watch, read, listen, etc.. Finally Smallville is on there, and at #1!!!!!!!

Finally Smallville is getting its credit in pop culture TV and ratings have never been better, way to go Smallville!!!!!!:D

Magazine Quote

"SMALLVILLE- Supe's life was turned upside down in an explosive 100th episode-he's engaged, Mr Kent dies, he's not engaged-and the WB show soars again."

Im 100% positive that there will be a 6th season now, possibly a 7th if the writers can keep up what they are doing, i used to think Smallville peaked back in season 3 but now it seems like thier just getting started!!

Cool, Thanks for the info. Glad to see Smallville getting credit. I missed 3 weeks of Smallville because of the town I live in don't have the WB unless you have cable so I missed the episode. But I have cable now!

Awesome that you have cable back...and awesome for the ratings. Hopefully the ratings get better as the olympics end and the reality shows that show at this time end. There's a small hiatus for new episodes...but hopefully all is well.

well having a break waiting for new episodes and airing reruns is a good thing. People who just recently got hooked after hearing the hype from Reckoning and Vengance now will get to see what they have been missing!

For us fans who have seen every episode, well it looks like it will be a long couple of weeks

Smallville deserves the credit. I love the show and I thought it was cool when a couple of weeks ago, EW said that the first show CW Network should pick up should be Smallville. That's the truth if I ever heard it.

I wanted to make a correction to part of your statement in regard to the ratings. Saying that they have never been better isn't really true.

The ratings have been a lot steadier than in the past few seasons. They are staying in the 5-6 million range consistantly, where as at the end of S3 and all of S4 you had episodes in the high 3's and low 4's.

However, the ratings were the best in S2. They were getting 7-8 million an episode, and Rosetta cleared 9 million. Even season one had high 6's to low 7's every episode.

Now if we are lucky, a episode will get low to mid 6's, but this still kind of low in regards to where the show used to be ratings wise.

Well if you figure in with what was being aired back in 2001 and 2002 and the time slot Smallville has been in, not much competition then. Now there are alot more show's in the same time slot getting good ratings but Smallville is doing great for being on a crappy network like the vanishing WB.

Think of Smallville ratings and take in consideration for inflation

Example-

Titanic is the highest grossing film of all time, $600 plus million domestically in 1997-98 but take a movie like "Gone with the Wind", which was released in the early 1930's and inflate the movie with todays ticket prices, that movie would pass 1 billion domestically easily.

Use the same formula for Smallville's ratings, it makes since

I think the numbers you are speaking of are share's, not the number of viewers, i track nielsen ratins all the time and Smallville has never had more then 9 million "viewers" perhaps you meant a 9 share, i could see where you might have gotten this confused

A Share is the percentage of television sets in use tuned to a specific program. These numbers are usually reported as (ratings points/share). For example, Nielsen may report a show as receiving a 9.2/15 during its broadcast, meaning 9.2%, or 10,138,400 households on average were tuned in at any given moment. It gets pretty tricky when dealing with numbers like these, Demographics also make it even more confusing. I know smallville never recieved 9 million viewers though

The problem that SV had was the network made them move to Wednesday nite...if the show had stayed on Tuesdays which was the perfect nite for it then the ratings would have stayed the same as in Seasons 1and 2....I have friends that stopped watching cuz they couldn't watch on wednesdays...i recorded every ep so i wasn't too worried...I am glad its on thursdays now but i wish it was still on tuesday nite

I am just so glad that it is getting all kinds of press this year...and number 1 must watch?! Think about it: there are people who DO determine what they watch by how popular it is, and Smallville is up there now! Sweet!

Also, I agree that I was afraid about the move to Thursday - it was as if the execs were just trying to do something with a failed project but now... we forced the OC to move times, and only the Big 3 networks beat us officially every week.
When Smallville is available to 90% of homes through the CW, I can see it placing 1 and 2 every week!

I would hate to see Smallville on Tuesday or Wednesday and compete with.....yawn American Idol, I dont think it would fare to good against that.

I've been searching, where do you get the ratings numbers? I didn't realize that Reckoning did so much less than Rosetta. I would love to track what Lexana will do to the numbers.

The ratings arent as high as they use to be, but its rather impressive that since Smallville moved to Thursday, its actually doing better in its timeslot then compared to season 4. And Smallville faces even worse competition this year (Dancing With The Stars, Survivor), then it did when it only faced Lost. I think the ratings will definitely rise next season, when its on the CW (assuming that it will be renewed, but we all know that its a pretty safe bet).
