Leave it to the Cubs to blow a 5-0 lead in a span of 2 innings:lol:

Another great win for the Yankees tonight. Teixeira got all fired up because he was hit twice in the game and he had a huge take-out slide at second based that kept the inning going. Then the Yankees offense exploded. I like what I am seeing with this team right now. They're showing heart. I still don't like the bullpen, but if they keep winning, they'll have plenty of time to straighten out the bullpen over the course of the season.
I just saw the highlights of this game^^^That was a beat down!

its a shame that randy johnson's chance to get 300 victories was delayed due to the game being postponed. Its quite possible randy johnson will be the last pitcher to get to 300 victories due to pitchers being on a limited pitch count plus the reliance and relievers and closers. Do you guys think anybody will ever reach 300 victories again?

I doubt it. If Roy Halliday keeps doing what he's doing now though he might make it, but it will take awhile.

Baseball is like that. I wouldn't worry too much about the loss last night. The Rangers have been playing very well. If the Yankees win today, they beat the Rangers 2 out of 3 and are 4-2 against them this season. That's all you really need. Just win series.
And right on cue, the Yankees beat the Rangers today and win the series. Melky with another late inning, clutch home run. This guy is quickly becoming one of my favorite players.

Well, it's the greatest sports rivalry in history rematching tonight. This time A Rod's back and the Yanks are in a much better place than when they met the Red Sox before. Hopefully the Bronx Bombers will clean up the dirty Sox :p
myankskent
06-09-2009, 02:15 PM
The Yanks better win...that's all I have to say. This series doesn't mean a lot because the Yanks and Red Sox are so close to each other in the standings, but mentally, the Yanks need to beat the Red Sox to gain some confidence. The only thing that concerns me is the bullpen. The Red Sox have a much better bullpen than the Yankees. Outside of that, I think that the Yankees have the better offense and starting pitching, especially with Ortiz becoming an automatic out these days.
WickedJenn
06-09-2009, 02:21 PM
That's why I want them to win especially, so their momentum keeps going. Beating Boston would keeping adding fuel to the fire.
Yeah, Boston's pitching has been quite subpar as of late, an advantage to the almighty Yankee bats, let's hope the Yankees take it.
I'm going to get harassed by my Massachusetts cousins tonight, I can feel it :\

I don't think that Red Sox fans should be saying anything at this point. They beat the Yankees five times in a row and here we sit on June 9 with the Yankees in first place by a game over the Sox. I hope that the Yankees come out tonight strong and send a message to the Sox. I expect the Yanks to lose tomorrow because what can we really expect from Wang? Big mistake by Girardi to have him start in Fenway Park, a place where he doesn't pitch well even when he is himself. The third game the Yanks should take. Penny is awful and Sabathia has really been the best pitcher for the Yanks.

Burnett stunk tonight. I'm really down on him. That's twice where he got lit up at Fenway Park this season and this is a guy who did nothing but shut down the Yankees and the Red Sox last season. I think it's time for him to stop throwing pies in the face of all of the Yankees that have walk-off wins after the game because he hasn't earned that right. He's been terrible this year.

as overrated as burnett is, you got to give credit to beckett they guy has been on a tear winning his 5th straight decision. Beckett was great last night and I don't blame the Yankees offense. Prior to last night, they were the only team in baseball who hadn't been shut out in a game so you're going to have a bad day once in a while. But to me, Burnett cost the Yanks the game. That was a night where he had to match 0's with Beckett and he didn't do it, this after getting shelled by the Red Sox in April as well.

hey i agree i still question why the yanks went after burnett to begin with yea he had his best year last year but he is so inconsistent its not funny plus hes usually injury plagued. But as bad as burnett was the yanks bats still have to produce especially with that potent offense they have theres no way that jeter, posada, matsui, a-rod, texieras should combine for one hit its just not acceptable.

I'm with you on Burnett. I hated the signing and let's face it, he got the money because he did nothing but beat the Yankees and Red Sox last year. If you take out his performances against the Yanks and Sox last season, his numbers weren't good. The problem this year is that he's not facing the Yankees and he now can't seem to beat the Red Sox. As far as the offense goes, I think that if Burnett had pitched well, we probably would've seen them do more but given that they were put in such a big hole early in the game, I think that they felt defeated after that. I know that's not an excuse for players who make a lot of money but it does happen at times. That being said, the offense better score some runs tonight against Wakefield because the chances of Wang going out there and being brilliant are not very good. In fact, this is the game in the series that I thought the Yankees would lose.

Wakefield has been surprisingly good this year though his era is a bit on the high side, the yanks as a team have pretty good batting average against him hitting .270. I still think phil hughes should start infront of wang but will see if he can come throw with that sinker which was so deadly a year ago.

I think that Hughes should be in the rotation...period. The Yanks really screwed up with Wang by sticking him in the bullpen for a couple of weeks. He needed to have more starts down in the minors where he threw every five days. If he had that, he'd probably be fine at this point in the rotation, but now, he's a big question mark. What the Yankees are doing with Hughes is the same thing. Throwing him in the bullpen is going to mess around with him as well, unless the Yankees plan on keeping him there for the rest of the season. Of course, Hughes has not proven that he can pitch effectively in the bullpen like Joba so that's a huge risk for the Yanks to take. If Hughes fails in the bullpen, then you've basically lost him because it would take a long time for him to build up the arm strength to become a starting pitcher again.
Yanks lose again. Very predictable. I'd love to know why the Yankees actually thought that it was going to be a positive experience to have Wang pitch in Fenway Park in his current state. Now what do you do with the guy? Keep marching him out there so that he can get knocked out after a couple of innings?

Well, he didn't, but it wasn't his fault. This bullpen that the Yankees have is atrocious. Here's the bottom line...and this is tough for me to say as a Yankees fan but it's true....the Yankees don't even belong on the same field as the Red Sox, plain and simple. The Red Sox do everything right and the Yankees do everything wrong. It's been that way since the Yankees choked in 2004. You can point to the series in August of 2006 when the Yankees bashed the Red Sox in Fenway Park and handed them a 5 game sweep but really...who cares? The Yankees have not beaten the Red Sox in a big spot and that's all that matters. The Yankees can move on from this and destroy everyone else in baseball between now and August, the next time they face the Red Sox, but they are not going anywhere this season if they don't fix what's wrong with this team(BULLPEN) and start beating the Red Sox. If the Yankees plan on getting into the postseason and getting to the World Series, the Red Sox will be standing in their way and right now, I have no faith in the Yankees to get the job done.

Against the Red Sox...absolutely. I think the Yankees can handle everyone else, maybe outside of the Angels who they have a lot of trouble with. Well the Yankee offense got shut down by Nieve on Saturday against the Mets. They always get shut down by pitchers who they have never seen before. I just think that they are all pressing with the Red Sox. They know that the pressure is on every time they play them and they are going to have to overcome that pressure. If they don't...they better hope that they don't face them in the postseason or face them in September with a playoff spot on the line.

Do you like a lot of offense in games or do you prefer well pitched games? I'm kind of in between. I hate the national league where the pitchers bat but I do enjoy a nice 2-1 game every now and then. This new Yankee Stadium is a joke with all of the home runs. They really need to do something about that during the winter because Yankee Stadium cannot be like Coors Field used to be.

There have been sources close to the Yanks that say that many of the starting pitchers don't want to pitch to Posada and that they like Cervelli and Molina better. I think that Posada should be more of a DH these days but how do you tell him that he can't catch anymore? Plus, the Yanks have enough DH's on this team already. Maybe next season will be different because Damon and Matsui might be gone.

I just heard. I'm actually not shocked, more disappointed. There was a lot of talk in recent years about rumors that Sosa and McGwire were juiced during their race to top Roger Maris' single season home run record over a decade ago.

I'm not shocked. If a lot of players were juicing, which we know to be the case, he'd be at the top of my list. He also used a corked bat in a game too. I hope the rest of the players are announced as well. ARod has been in the hot seat long enough.

What is major league baseball doing by scheduling the Cubs/White Sox during the week? Those games should all be on the weekends. It doesn't look like there will be a doubleheader for yesterdays rain out so there's talk about them making this game up in September on a mutual off day. How weird would that be?

It didn't happen last night either. The Yanks just barely scraped out a win and tonight, their offense was shut down. I said it before and I'll say it again, since the Boston series, the Yankees have not been playing good baseball. They were handed a win because of the Castillo drop and in game one of the Nationals series, they came back because the Nationals defense couldn't make routine plays late in the game. They had one good game and that was the 15-0 win over the Mets on Sunday. Now they have 9 straight games in NL parks without the DH. They better pitch well because their offense is going to be limited.

06-18-2009, 03:01 PM
Jim, let's tell it like it is...the Yanks not scoring has been a problem in a handful of games this year. This has been a season long problem for the Cubs. I still think that the biggest issue for the Yankees is the pitching and I also think that a lot of their pitchers are afraid to pitch in that park. If the Yankees don't find a solution to all of the home runs, they won't be signing any top pitchers because nobody will want to pitch at Yankee Stadium.
Just saw the Soriano hit. That's a nice come from behind win for the Cubs.

The Yanks are now in a major offensive slump. It was bound to happen sooner or later and if you ask me, this is coming at a bad time with them having to play 9 consecutive games in NL parks without the DH. After watching the games that they have lost lately, it seems like when they don't hit a lot of home runs, they don't win. That's a major problem. I think that the Yanks have grown to rely on the long ball way too much because of the ballpark and now it's catching up to them. If you look at their numbers with runners in scoring position, it's awful. That was their problem all of last year. Joba stunk tonight as well.

They need a new manager too. I'm not impressed with Girardi and it amazes me how much pressure the Yankees organization put on Torre when he was the manager even though he won world championships with this team and somehow Girardi gets a free pass on everything. The Yankees drop 8 straight to Boston this season and you don't hear anything from ownership. If the Yankees lost one game with Torre back in the day to the Red Sox, we'd be hearing statements by Steinbrenner. It makes the Yankees organization look very weak.

tbh with you matt, i miss the ole days of george steinbrenner though a lot of ppl loathed the guy he was a man of great passion for his organization, i still remember the love/hate relationship between him and billy martin. Im sort of happy i dont have to hear the ramblings of hank or hal steinbrenner their two bigmouths who have thankfully shut their mouths for the most of the season. I still say give girardi more time i think people in new york jump way to hard on their managers especially girardi he did wonders for florida a few years back. I dont blame girardi at all for yankees recent troubles
myankskent
06-19-2009, 12:28 PM
I'm not saying that Girardi is the main problem, but I have a major problem with the standards that the Yankees set for Torre and the standards that they have for Girardi. Whether Steinbrenner was right to put pressure on Torre or not, I just want the same thing to be done for Girardi, especially since he hasn't won anything as Yankees manager. I think that a lot of players on this team, along with Girardi, are kind of sitting back and are way too relaxed. I would like to see some pressure on them from above. Also, there are sources that say that a lot of the veterans on the Yankees don't like Girardi and that's not a good thing.

The last Cubs I got to see was last season where Kerry Wood lost the game for the Cubs against the Astros in extra innings.
On WGN, they had a nice interview with Wood though, and since I don't really read the newspaper, I was surprised to hear about the ad he put in the newspaper, declaring how Chicago would always be his home. You can tell he never wanted to leave, as he still makes Chicago his home.

I only heard about it a few years ago, when they were talking about the Red Sox curse (the curse of the Bambino-when the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees). I am not from Chicago originally just here for school, so that's probably why I hadn't heard about it earlier.
Anyways, here is the lowdown:
"The Billy Goat curse was supposedly placed on the Cubs in 1945 when Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Sianis) was asked to leave a World Series game at the Cubs' home ground of Wrigley Field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrigley_Field) because his pet goat's odor was bothering other fans. He was outraged and declared, "Them Cubs, they aren't gonna win no more," which has been interpreted to mean that there would never be another World Series game played at Wrigley Field. The curse was immortalized in newspaper columns over the years, particularly by syndicated columnist Mike Royko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Royko), and gained widespread attention during the 2003 postseason when FOX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_on_FOX) television commentators played it up during the Cubs-Marlins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Marlins) match-up in the National League Championship Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_National_League_Championship_Series)."

I thought Alou could have made the catch as it was pretty shallow in the seats. Yeah, Steve Bartman. They made way too big a deal about that though. They had two more chance to win and choked.
Well last year it wasn't so much the curse as Soriano being aces during the season and being Mr. Choke as he always seems to be in the playoffs. I think Mark DeRosa was the only one producing for the Cubs in the playoffs last year and now he is on the Cleveland Indians.
I don't believe in the curse, it's just entertaining to discuss sometimes.

Yanks lose again and I must say, this team had me fooled. After that great run they went on, despite the fact that they can't beat the Red Sox, I felt that they were going to be a more consistent team this season but I know better now. I can understand why the Mets are getting shut out to the Cardinals because they are missing their whole lineup but the Yanks have no excuses. Everybody is healthy, for the most part, and yet they haven't won a series since they beat Texas more than two weeks ago. I'm not counting the Mets series because the Yanks didn't win that series in my mind...not with the Castillo error handing the Yanks the win.

Obviously no team can stay on the kind of run that the Yankees were on, but giving it all back by losing the majority of games following the run is unacceptable. Also, it's not as if the Yankees are playing great teams here outside of the Red Sox. The Mets are banged up and the Yanks were lucky to win two. The Nationals are an atrocious team. The Marlins have some good players, but they're not a good team right now and the same goes for the Braves. These are all teams that the Yanks should beat in a series.

That was a strange no-hitter because the Phillies had scored a run without a hit, which doesn't happen often with these potential no-hitters. On my birthday I saw the Blue Jays lose in a blow out to the Phillies on June 27 in Toronto, and the only other game I went before these two was a game where the White Sox lost in a blow out to the Twins in April. Is the universe trying to tell me not to go to baseball games? lol
Screw it, I am going to the Cubs vs. Braves games on Tuesday :p. It's too bad most of the Braves players I rooted for when I was a big fan of theirs from 1991-2003 are no longer on there. They are still my NL East team, but Cubs take precedence ;)

Because I am cursed? lol.
Last year I saw the Orioles blow out the Cubs, the Cubs beat the Marlins 8-4 and the Cubs lose to the Astros in extra innings (that's in order). By that logic, perhaps Cubs will beat the Braves lol

Well, I just got back from Boston. Let's just say that the night life is pretty awesome up there, despite the fact that most people are huge Red Sox fans. I went to my first game at Fenway Park on Friday. The game was great because the Mariners won in extra innings. As for the ballpark, I love the classic feel to it. I have a lot of respect for it, but of course, it's nothing like these new parks now in terms of comfort. I had to walk about a mile to get down to the concession stands, because I was seated in the last row in right field. I still cannot believe that in the entire outfield, outside of the bottom of the monster that I couldn't see anyway, the score of the game is not posted. The only way that I could see the score is if I looked toward the first and third base lines in the infield, which is a long way from where I was sitting. So, at times, I had no idea what was going on in the game. But outside of that, I'm glad I got to see at least one game in that old park. Wrigley is next on my list.
As for the Yanks, just keep on winning and everything will fall into place.

Walking and I don't get along very well so it sounds like I should avoid Fenway Park..

07-06-2009, 12:10 PM
Well, to be fair, my seats weren't great. I was in the last row in right field. If you're sitting in the infield or more toward the fences in the outfield, it wouldn't be that bad. But still, the ballpark is not build for comfort because it is so old. I'm just spoiled with the old Yankee Stadium and the new one.

Yup. This is not meant to be used as an excuse, but there were three horrendous calls yesterday that went against the Yanks. Jeter was called out stealing third in the first inning when he was really safe and the umpire actually told him that since the throw beat him, no tag was necessary. I mean, you have got to be kidding me right there. Then there was another play where Hinske was forced out at second base on a ground ball when the second basemen was a foot off the base after he caught the ball. There was one other terrible call as well but I forgot what happened there. The bottom line is that the umpires this year have been awful. I don't ever remember a year where there were so many blown calls.
I saw that Phillies score. It looks like Philly is about to go on one of those big runs. They always go through a stretch where they can't seem to win a game and then their offense gets hot and they beat the tar out of everyone.

Yeah. The interesting thing about Torre was that he was at the top of the list and the bottom of the list. I guess you either love him or hate him. I love Torre, but I think one thing that really hurt him was writing that book. If you were a player, would you want to be managed by a guy who could one day write a book exposing everything that you said and did? That's basically what he did in his book.

hey you can say the umps blew some calls (happens every game) but the yanks did have a chance to come back 7-6 so i would also lay some blame to the bats, like come on who swings on the first pitch when the bases are loaded?

I'd blame the pitching over the bats for yesterday's game. They did score 6 runs. I'd also give a lot of credit to Toronto's defense because they robbed the Yanks of a lot of hits.

The Cubs just can't seem to get anything going. They also have a lot of games to make up in the second half of the year which is not going to help them any. As for the Braves, it would be nice if one of the teams in the NL East can go on some kind of run to challenge the Phillies.
I've been keeping track of the Rangers/Angels series. To this point, surprisingly enough, the Rangers are hanging in there with the Angels. We'll see if their pitching holds up in the second half but they still have a shot to be this years Tampa Bay.

I'd love to see the Rangers get in over the Angels because I know that there is absolutely no chance that the Yankees will beat the Angels in a playoff series. The Yanks are playing great baseball right now but don't be surprised if they get their a** handed to them this weekend when they go to the house of horrors that is Angels Stadium.

If the Red Sox get them in the first round, they'll definitely take them out. I feel the same way about the Yankees beating the Twins. Then it would be Yanks/Sox and if that were to happen, I would hope that the Yankees will have beaten the Sox at least one time during the regular season.

Yeah, but I look at it like this....the Yanks beat them in 99 and 03 and the Sox beat them in 04. So the Yanks won two out of three in that series. So maybe this year will be the start of the next series between the two in the ALCS.

There's a lot of talk about Halladay being traded. Apparently, the Blue Jays are willing to trade him to a team in the AL East if the deal is right. I'd give up Hughes and Joba for him because if the Yankees go into the postseason with a rotation of Sabathia, Burnett and Halladay, it could be game, set and match for them.

the bluejays would be stupid to trade halladay to the yanks they have no really good prospects in their minor league system, the best teams the jays should look at are the dodgers and phillies they have an abundance of good young pitching talent as well as shortstops (which the jays need badly.

I don't think they will trade him to the Yankees, but I do think that the Yanks have the players to land him. The thing is, I don't know if the Yanks would be willing to give up Joba and Hughes, along with Austin Jackson, who is their big CF prospect in AAA.

i have heard some great things about austin jackson, the thing is the jays dont need a centre fielder( even though vernon wells is a waste of money) the jays need shortstop talent and the yanks dont have the talent there in their minor leagues unless you know something i dont Matt. I just want equal value like with Josh Beckett trade to the BoSox, they marlins got a helluva a baseball player in Hanley Ramirez, i just hope ricciardi dosnt screw this up

No, the Yanks don't have a shortstop for them, unless they are willing to trade Ramiro Pena, who some say could be the future SS of the Yanks. I think the Phillies have exactly what the Blue Jays will want. They have a big time shortstop in the minors who the Phillies won't need since they have Rollins. If the Phillies get Halladay, watch out. You're talking about a starting rotation of Halladay, Hamels and Blanton with an offense that is the best in the majors. If Lidge could get his act together, a repeat would certainly be a possibility for them.

Rain or no rain, I'm sure you'll have a great time just in seeing the place.
Aceves has actually been really good as a reliever this year. He reminds me of Ramiro Mendoza from the championship teams, but he didn't have it today. I would've kept Aceves in the bullpen and brought someone up from the minors to make the starts for Wang. We'll be sweating this one out as the Yankees continue to walk the Twins around the bases. Still have the lead, amazingly enough.

Now I don't feel so bad. What a brutal series. You just can't make it up when the Angels play the Yankees. No matter what happens, the Yankees will find a way to lose and the Angels will find a way to win. Yanks make errors...the Angels get more runs. The Angels make errors, no biggie...Yanks can't take advantage. Yankees pitcher goes 2-0 to a batter, Angels hitter gets a hit. Yankees hitter smokes the ball with runners on base, it's a line drive right at the pitcher who promptly turns it into a DP. I'm sure the Twins fans hate the Yankees, but they can at least take pleasure in knowing that what the Yankees do to them the Angels do right back to the Yanks. I feel like punching Mickey Mouse right now.

Yeah. It happens. I remember one year Mike Piazza didn't hit any homers either. To be honest, I wasn't that impressed with Pujols last night. One of the home runs that he hit in the first round wasn't even a home run. A fan reached over and caught the ball so if that ended up being an out, he's not involved in the bat off. I figured that it was going to be tough for Pujols because there was so much pressure on him being that it was in his home park. Nelson Cruz was a big suprise. I thought that he was going to win it, but Fielder got him in the end.
