omg martha is so blind i mean come on he's pushing it...he's right on the mark with the blackmailing without martha saying anything, saying the security guard wants to cash in and he doesn't even question martha...he is trying so hard...

this guy is disgustingly ridiculous....lets see JK come back and smash lionel!

not that im ROOTING for Mionel, because im not BUT...

I think its good to see someone taking care of Martha, even knowing his intentions. He obviously cares about her a great deal and if she wont give him affection in that way (which I doubt she will) he still wants to be there for her. I like when he shows up, it usually means he is fixing something for her or providing support. And now with him apparently being the good guy for the Kents with Clarks secret, I like his character more. Martha isnt doing anything wrong but being friendly, she hasnt shown him one ounce of affection or flirting.

im not spitting on the grave of jonathan kent by saying this either

yeah but such devious ways don't make up for it all. It's his true emotion to care for her, but forceful and a set-up.

Lionel setting up this whole thing is his attempt to get closer with martha...totally wrong...he doesn't need to show his extremely exaggerative attentive care for her by setting her up.

if he set it up, then whyd he say "your secret is safe with me kal-el" my first inclination was that it was a set-up too, but when you put it into context with that, it doesnt make sense. sorry

set up or not, he obviously wants to PROTECT THEM. If he felt lying about the bribe was the only way to let Martha know she can come to him...then sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Plus the fact it was a set up is still pretty up in the air

yes yes we've established that he wants to protect them already, but what is being discussed is how devious he is to try and get martha's attention

fattire- if you watched the episode then you woulda saw lionel give the money to the guy who pretended to blackmail....CMON dude THAT is a set-up...haha...what that really comes down to is....are we seeing lionel & jor-el embodied into one or some other answer...

either way he set her up we know that the point is that is jacked up and the most-degrading way to get closer to someone...er something along the lines huh?

Martha is obviously overwhelmed by her new responsibility to have to protect Clark on her own now that Jonathan is gone. (this is why she made a brash decision by just giving into the blackmailer without any questioning, and why she was longing at the picture of Jonathan before she burnt the CD)

I personally, dont think Martha can do it on her own either. She gets to overwhelmed and makes brash decisions. If Lionel had to lie, or pretend to bribe her to be able to HELP her and Clark then god-speed my new found goody.

in THIS WAY, the end did satisfy the means I think. (unlike Lex)
