LIONEL KNOWS!

Or is it Joe-El?! WTH, I don't know what to think.

Lion-El for sure! And doubleplusagreed with the HOLY CRAP! My new theory is that Jor-El is indeed a rat bastard, still has full control of Lionel's body and got Jonathon killed so he could move in on Martha using Lionel's means and wealth and try to be a "real" Father for Clark, while still maneuvering Clark to be who he wants him to be.

Barring that, then it's just that Lionel has all of Dr. Swan's research and knows everything, and for whatever reason is protecting Clark's secret. Maybe he made a deal with Swan to do so, who knows?

Definitely something cool going on, as far as I'm concerned.

The ending was awesome! I literally jumped up off the couch; I totally did not see that coming.

No, I think Jor-el is good and is just playing along with the whole Martha thing. Jor-el is smart and is doing exactly what Lionel would be doing (moving in on Martha) but really, he just wants to keep an eye on Clark and see that he is ok. I really think Jor-el is good and just misunderstood by everyone. In the end, his intentions will be known and Clark will realize Jor-el loves him.

This ending has so many possible outcomes. I think it's possible that Jor-El has been living in Lionel this whole time, not gone dormant as we might have thought ... or, maybe Lionel really does know that Clark is the last son of Krypton?

Who knows. Pretty good episode with an amazingly cool ending. It lends some weirdness to the "Thank you, son..." line from last week, too.

I screamed at the end, I was like woe!!!! And there wont be anymore new smallville's for a while (crying) I want to see more!!!! Whatever TPTB have up their sleeves this season is really good. I will give them that.

I tihnk it is just Lionel. I think he really does love martha and heknows if anything ever happend to Clark Martha would be devasatated so he is protecting Clark because he cares for Martha. I honestly think Lionel is just a good person now. After Reckoning I wasnt so sure but I dont think he was trying to hurt Jonathan or anything he was trying to help Jonathan to help Clark to help Martha.

Sure looks like Lion-El doesn't it?

But I'm still not for sure.

It's just that I wouldn't put it past TPTB to write Lionel this way, lead us on, and decide down the road which way to go. You know, leave both possibilities open - could be evil Lionel or really is Lion-El.

I posted my theory in another thread, but I thought that he might be trying to test the parents and how far they will go to protect Clark. The problem is that with Jonathan he didn't expect Jonathan to have a heart attack, it was just a test. Now, he's making sure that Martha, searching out the political spotlight as well, is willing to go to any length to protect her son.

LOL - I was thinking much the same thing. I even said to my sister "Magnificant Bastard is BACK". She said "About time", and then the whole "Your secret is safe with me, Kal-El." Whoa. CANT WAIT FOR NEXT EPISODE!

Wait he said "your secret is safe with me Kal-El" ????

I must of missed that from my happy moment of surprise that TPTB actually made such an awesome episode with such an awesome ending!

Just WOW!

I think it was Lionel all the way..

Jor-El would have no reason to say "Your secret is safe with me, Kal-El."

HOLY CRAP!!!
the ending of this episode totally caught me off gard!
i knew that lionel probably had a deal with whoever was blackmailing martha. he probably did that just so martha will think that he is a great friend.
but that last line just got me."your secret is safe with me Kal-el"
OMG!!!
can't wait for the next episode!
HOLY CRAP!!!

I can't wait till next episode airs (March 30th, I think)!! It's gonna rock with Brainiac coming back and Jor-el (maybe) still inhabiting Lionel's body! I can't wait.

this episode was so good! i was doing my happy-smallville-dance at the very end, along with screaming erratically and acting like a complete fool, thats how good this was. i loved the suprise ending so much! it was a great cliffhanger to keep us on our toes until march 30th (which seems like an eternity, and is also the day before i find out if i get into college-but i digress.) i loved it. i was so excited at first i could hardley type, but that wasn't a problem considering the fact that i couldnt access the forums anyway...okay i'll stop typing now. its time for me to do another smallville happy dance

Right on. I knew Lionel would be dealing with that "blackmailer" and that he would be the one ultimately behind the DVD. But like you, I was thinking that this is being set up to look like blackmail when really Lionel is trying to get close to Martha by protecting her. It doesn't mean he's a bad guy (maybe this is the only way he can do it after his bad history).

But I also am very sure that Lionel not Jor-El was speaking at the end. It would really tie things up especially with how he shot Jason last season. Also, Jor-El wouldn't say anything like that.

I'm glad that someone agrees with me.
I am positive that that was Lionel not Jor-el. why would Jor-el say that he will keep Clark's secret?
I can't wait until the next episode, but we have to wait until March 30th (i think):(

I'm going to say I was totally suprised by the ending. I was sure Lionel was just using Martha; then that last line! NOW, ... well ... I have to say I think it's been Jor-El all along inhabiting Lionel since the 1st part of this season. I think he's playing a role to watch Lex because he knows Lex is the ultimate bad guy, and because he needs to protect ClarK. Remember, Jor-El is an alien with an alien's motives and thoughts -- or at least whatever has been left of Jor-El in the caves and in the ship had a personality like that. SO, now that this "persona" has inhabited Lionel, we will see odd behavior from him at times. I think the TPTB are saying clearly now: THIS IS JOR-EL. It will be interesting to see how all this developes.

Just to give my thoughts: When he was watching the tape I was like, "Oh no, he knows..." Then he says Kal-el. WOW!

Smallville is killing me with these endings. Say what you want about Smallville, but they know how to end an episode on a emotional or suprising note.

Ever since "Reckoning", these endings have been very dramatic.
