i am confused about lionel now. my guess is that lionel set up the blackmail with martha so he can come to her rescue and make her think he is good but i think that the Kal El comment ment that jor el can still control lionel and that he will stop lionel if it came to hurting clark.

I'm under the assumption that its more of a test by Jor-El, of either the lengths Clark's mother will go to protect Clark, or of something else. I am not one hundred percent sure. Or maybe an attempt to move in closer to Clark as best as he can, it has me kind of concerned that we haven't had too many scenes of Clark trying to figure out the same thing we are; is Lionel still Jor-El?
I had another small theory with no supporting evidence. If Brainiac can use parts of himself to program Clark paranoid, what if Jor-El is no longer in Lionel, but Brainiac is. Heck, Brainiac can shapeshift as well, maybe he's rid the world of the real Lionel anyway, and this is now just a shapeshifted Brainiac...sorry...imagination is running away.

This episode is amazing. These are the types of conversations that I enjoy having after an episode...all mystery based. I like the fact that we have something to talk about now for the next few weeks. I am torn. If it is Lionel, the KalEl reference makes no sense. He can't possibly know that he is KalEl so that means that JorEl or Braniac are involved. I'm leaning more toward JorEl because of what happened in Solitude, where Lionel went to Chloe and ratted out Braniac. To keep it consistent, I'm thinking that it is JorEl. Also remember in Vengence when Lionel called Clark "son".

I wasnt surprised by the video I had figured it out that last time Martha watched it. And I wasnt surprised that Lionel had the dvd and now knows but dang was I surprised by what he said at the end. And that look in his eyes was like loving and sweet and all that good stuff. I dont know who he is

I figured that he was behind the "blackmail", but him calling Clark by Kal-el, whew, I was jumping up and down shouting. (As many of you might have guess from my first post). The real question now is, how long has he known?

I don't think it is Jor El. For one he wouldn't have needed to pay off the black mailer and watch the video to know/confirm Clark's powers and there is no doubt that Jor El would keep Clark's secret and therefore wouldn't need to express it.

I hope they dont kill Lionel off until the series finale (when lex no doubt loses his last shred of goodness and kills him). I know hes not Jor-El, but maybe he just didnt suffer from Smallville "amnesia", and kept his memory.

one thing first, i think MB hired the "blackmailer". This is why-Lionel wants to get close to Martha. What better way than to help her when she needs it, and ask for nothing in return? Now, why Lionel would keep Clark's secret, I dont know. Maybe when Jor-el was inside Lionel, part of Jor-el was left behind inside, influencing Lionel.

I agree. He hired the blackmailer to get close to Martha. Lionel made it seem that he was coming to Martha's rescue when in fact he was the one who made the disc of the surveillance footage in the first place. He orchestrated the whole thing. However, I don't think he will do anything malicious with the footage. I believe Lionel has truly reformed for Martha.

I have thought Lionel is brainiac for a while. He could have blew the whistle on milton fine on purpose so that Clark could feel that he wasn't alone. Now he does not want to expose clark just yet, because he still needs him to release Zod. The killing jk and moving in on mk is just his way of manipulating Clark and trying to weaken him for when it time. It would be interesting if it was really brainiac that saved clark the first time, but I really do not think is the case, but interesting.

Lionel has always had the hots for Martha, so he set up the whole thing. Or, Jor-El is controlling Lionel so he can move in on Martha to be close to Clark.

Jor-El doesn't need to blackmail Martha to get close to Clark...IMO Lionel has some memories from Transference, from being downloaded by the stone when Jor-El "inhabited" him, or both. I really don't think Jor-El would bother with all those "human" details. Of course, TPTB have been known to be slightly inconsistent before, but that would just seem weird to me. I really think Lionel is just himself.

yes, i agree with LaraofKrypton, lionel is lionel. But, I dont think he blackmailed martha to get close to martha...i think its to get closer to clark. I mean, yes, he's got it bad for her, but like i said in another thread, I think that is at the backburner to what he's planning. Its a perk that Ma kent is hot...thats all.

^Oh yes he did. The blackmailer never saw the footage, Lionel only hired him to be the blackmailer, so that Lionel could come to Martha's rescue to gain her friendship. Lionel wants to be close to Clark and Martha. I know why he wants to be close to Martha, but why Clark. Is he the son he wished he had or something else?

That phrase and his behavior left wondering if they perhaps are going to take a Jor-el/Lionel, Braniac infestation, or just Lionel angle. Whatever way it ends up, they've created tension quite well with one little scene. Good writing in that regard.

Also what black mailer is going to purchase a portable DVD player for her to watch the disk? Lets me know that Lionel blacked mailed her, for what reason not sure just yet, but he just paid the guy for doing his part. Opinions?

oh def he was behind the whole thing...that guy was just some goon he hired to act the part. He's trying to gain her trust so he could get closer to her and clark....mostly clark. For what reason remains to be seen.

Oh he's known about Clark having ablilities since Transference. There's no arguing that. Clark remembered everything when he changed back, there's NO reason Lionel wouldn't. Remember, the transference transfered their souls/energy whatever you want to call it. But not Clark's powers. So when they transfered back, Lionel, just like Clark, would have retained all his knowledge. But the transference changed him. Healed his body, and his soul from the darkness that he said had been perverting him all this time.

I think he learned about Kal-El when he got downloaded with all the Kryptonian knowledge. Remember, when Lionel came back after being possessed by Jor-El, Lex said that LIonel had been mumbling for weeks about Krypton and Kal-El, while writing kryptonian symbols in his hospital room and carving them onto the floor of the mansion. When he was downloaded he was still lucid, to a point, when he talked to Lana. He told Lana "The disciples of Zod must be stopped. Their home...is their only poison."

So he knows everything. powers. alien origins. Kryptonite. He knows it all.

I think Martha had a bunch of one dollar bills in a suitcase, and lionel probably had hundred dollar bills

Thats far fetched, John Glover is a good actor, but asking him to play Clark in transference, Jor-el in Hidden, and now Dr. Swann?. I just hope that Clark finds out that Lionel knows soon, I mean the whole someone knowing his secret and him not knowing about it, has been done before with Chloe.

about the lionel planning the blackmail, why would he need to watch it if he sent it in the first place. i think he just payed the blackmailer off to get the dvd.

about him being jor-el, maybe. but i think he just said "your secret is safe with me "cuz clarked saved his life again and also he has the hots for his mom.

only thing thing that gets to me is that he said kal-el. not many people know about that name. maybe swann gave him the message he recieved from krypton, they did make a deal and lionel fianlly put the pieces together.

but they could do the whole lionel being jor-el thing too. i don't think it wouldt really be a bad thing i kinda like the idea and besides we all know lionel will die eventually.
