I was SOOOOO impressed they brought back the opera! Haven't heard its melodic sounds since "Gone" in season four! Really great stuff, took me back to season three. I hope they keep it up with the opera, because it really adds a sense of untimeliness to the show; like Allison Mac said on the commentary for the episode "Truth" in season three, "The music (opera) feels like Superman!"

By the way, does anyone know the title of that song? I want to download it real soon from itunes. :)

the aria at the end was 'Casta Diva' (Chaste Goddess) from the opera Norma by Bellini.

Not a bad theme song for Martha. ;)

I thought the scenes where they add the opera music are so good. I added this post here cause I seem to hve lost the other 1 lol. I made a little list of all the times I can remember sum classical/opera piece but unfortunately I am not blessed with the knowledge to name the songs. If anyone could fill the missing links that would be good. And also if I missed any bits, I swear there were sum nice opera songs with Lex but couldnt remember where.

Season 3 -

02 - Phoenix (36min In)
16 - Crisis (At The End)
18 - Truth (At The End)
21 - Forsaken (At The End)
22 - Covenant (At The End) - Mozart's Requiem

Season 4 -

02 - Gone (22min In)
08 - Spell (11min In)

Season 5 -

15 - Cyborg (At The End) - Casta Diva - Nana Mouskouri - Bellini

free yayo, I totally have those!!!! Except the one in "Forsaken". If anyone could fill in what that opera song, it'd be greatly appreciated. And, I don't think there was one in "Spell", in fact, I'm quite sure, unless maybe you're referring to the operatic music played when the witches appeared. I know there was a piano sonata that Lex played though. Ok, here's the titles of the songs:

Phoenix-Salut Demure Chaste et Pure (Faust)
Crisis-Die Perlenfischer-Je Crois Entendre Encore
Truth-"Stabat Mater" by Paul Schwarts (Schwarts may be spelled with a "Z" at the end)
Forsaken-Not sure of this one. REALLY would like to find it if anyone knows it.
Covenent-Mozart's Requiem "Introitus"
Gone-LakmA H20 (Flower Duet) (I think this is from "Madam Butterfly" but not sure, and the version I downloaded was by the OPERA BABES; they're a very intriguing group, they're beautiful, hot young women who sing opera, thus trying to make it more popular amongst teens and those currently uninterested in opera)

As for "Spell", like I said, I don't think there's opera, but I may be wrong. If you calculated the exact time of how many minutes into the show it played, then I'm probably wrong.

By the way, you missed a few. In the second season episode "LINEAGE", there's an opera song playing at the end when Lionel lies to Lex about Lucas dying at birth. Un bel dA vedremo from "Madama Butterfly" is the song. And in the episode "SUSPECT" when Lionel is shot, the song "Ebben?..Ne Andro Lontano" from "La Wally" plays, by the Opera Babes.

Hope that list helps! :)

hey LuthorRequiem2 thanks for al ur info man, ive got hold of all the tracks but just cant seem to get that Stabat Mater - Paul Schwartz track. Is the smallville version defintely the Paul Schwartz version cause I found lots of Stabat Masters but none that were like in the program. It had more of a modern sound to it then an old opera sound. If any1 knows this please help. LuthorReq. do you have the "Truth" version of stabat?

Also LR2 do you know the name of the piece lex is playing in Spell, its not opera just piano.

Thanks

The Paul Schwarts one is the one. It has a techno, modern beat at certain parts, but also has that old opera sound. It's called "popera" (the blending of modern sound and opera). I have that version, and I could try sending it to you if there's a way to do so. Let me know and I'll be glad to help. :)

Please people, all I ask is that if you listen to opera for the first time, try a version OTHER than the Opera Babes, Charlotte Church, etc. :D

The La Wally excerpt, LR2, was not by the Opera Babes. Not sure who it was, but Renata Tebaldi, whom you heard sing 'Un bel di' in 'Lineage', gives great 'Ebben, ne andro lontana' as well. ;) Listen to Maria Callas, Montserrat Caballe or Joan Sutherland for great 'Casta Diva.' :)

Paul Schwartz's name is spelled the way I just did. I actually kinda love his stuff, especially his 'Ave Maria' on his 'Aria2: New Horizons' CD. :)

For your Amazon-searching pleasure: The Flower Duet from Lakme' is called just that, no 'H20'. 'Salut demeure, chaste et pure' is from Faust by Gounod. The opera 'Les Pecheurs de Perles' (The Pearl Fishers) is by Bizet.

There's no opera in 'Spell', but I still wish we'd heard 'Night on Bald Mountain' during that ep. :rotfl:

'Forsaken' was so long ago that I don't remember anything about it, but I'll see if I can come up with the name of the piece.

Glad to see y'all loving this music! :D

Hey Tyrrath thanks for the post. You seem to know ur stuff like luthor, do you know any other really good pieces like the 1s we been discussing. I love the Je Crois Entendre Encore any familiar like that, powerful and a little melodic. Thanks.

Thanks for the info, both LuthorRequiem2 and Tyrrath. Do either of you know which pieces of Chopin's sonatas were played in Episode 1-06 (Hourglass)? Thanks.

Also, the piece that was played by Lex in Spell was Impromptu No. 2 In E Flat by Schubert, to whomever was asking about that.

I would have to go back and rewatch the episode, Nick - I barely remember it, except for the end with Lex in the sea of dead flowers and bloody rain. ;)

Wow, I'm really glad so many people are getting interesting in these opera songs. Most people don't really seem to give opera a chance these days, but I'm glad you all are intrigued by it. This is one of the many reasons I site "Smallville" as a good example of not only an entertaining show, but an educational one. Without "Smallville" I wouldn't have become so immersed in the world of opera. Hearing it on "Smallville" encouraged me to download it and find out more about it, and I encourage all of you to do the same. In fact, go see an opera. I just saw Mozart's Requiem the other day. It was FANTASTIC! The sound of hearing it live gave me chills.

Vatusia, what is wrong with the Opera Babes? Have you ever given them a chance? Their sound is exquisite. Just because they are hot and don't LOOK like the stereotype of an opera singer doesn't mean they aren't good. They're in fact very good. Their voices are beautiful, and I don't see what's wrong with them. They are endeavoring to get the youth of today more interested in opera. So what if that means using their beautiful image a little? Angelina Jo Le uses her public and beautiful image in order to help people become more interested in helping foreign countries. The Opera Babes are just using their influence to help inspire interest in opera. Just like "Smallville" does. By showing a character who's popular with the audience (Lionel) listening to opera, they are encouraging audience members to become more involved with opera.
