An hour of "That '70s Show" was fourth in households for FOX, although The WB's "Smallville," 3.1/5, beat it in total viewers. UPN trailed with "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Love, Inc."

Last week was 4.2 and now 3.1?
Meaning it's about 4.1 million viewers. Vengeance was roougly 5.07 million not counting overall ratings which probably totals more.
That's not really something to celebrate about.
It did horrible.
Smallville is once again @ the bottom of the food chain. That makes me happy.
Hey the ratings speaks for themselves, can't argue with that ;)

The ratings will dip after the 100th episode or a season finale. That happens all the time, but as you can read, Smallville had MORE total viewers that That 70's Show.
although The WB's "Smallville," 3.1/5, beat it in total viewers.

Reminder about how Nielsen Ratings work:
Nielsen Television Ratings are reported by ranking the percentage for each show of all viewers watching television at a given time. As of 2005, there are an estimated 110.2 million television households in the USA. A single national ratings point represents 1%, or 1,102,000 households for the 2005-06 season. Share is the percentage of television sets in use tuned to a specific program. These numbers are usually reported as (ratings points/share). For example, Nielsen may report a show as receiving a 9.2/15 during its broadcast, meaning 9.2%, or 10,138,400 households on average were tuned in at any given moment. Additionally, 15% of all televisions in use at the time were tuned into this program. Nielsen re-estimates the number of households each August for the upcoming television season.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_ratings
So a 3.1/5 means: 3,416,200 viewers, but I don't know how many TVs were in Use at that time. Smallville is appealling to 5% of the market.
Note to writers: Drop the FOTW and start writing good plots

When you look at ratings, it's important to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.
Mediaweek shows metered market household ratings while zap2it.com shows the fast nationals. Those 4.1, 4.2, 4.4's etc. are mediaweek numbers. zap2it.com numbers are always lower than mediaweek numbers.
Last week, zap2it.com said "An hour of "That '70s Show" on FOX edged The WB's "Smallville," 3.3/5, for fourth" - and it rarely if ever gives out the raw numbers of viewers.
So, it still got a 5 share - same as last week. It did drop in *household ratings points* from 3.3 to 3.1 in the fast nationals, but zap2it.com mentioned that "Smallville" beat out "That 70's show" this week in total viewers so the total viewers numbers may not be lower this week if more people just happened to be watching *together* in the same household than they did last week. The 3.3 vs. 3.1 is about homes in the survey, not how many people are sitting in front of the tv set.
Personally, I like to see the mediaweek numbers because they give more details like the actual numbers of viewers.
However, I will say that a viewer discretion warning on a show like "Smallville" could have a slightly negative effect bc some families watch the show together and they might decide not to watch one week if they thought it would be inappropriate for family viewing.

That's the lowest this season.
You can't say it dipped just because 100th episode passed or it does that after a season finale, because you know very well that the ratings were consistent in the beginning of the season. They were all up above the 5.8/5.9 million mark.
The WB or the advertisers could care less about the total viewers. In reality they care more about the demographics and last night's episode just didn't cut it, it placed 5th with a 2.2 among the 18-49 adults. Vengeance also placed 5th last week.
Considering the fact that in the first few episodes of season 5 they were either first or second in those demographics and now to fall 5th? That's really bad.
And why was it that The WB released statements after the first few episodes aired stating the fact that it was either 1 or 2 in the demos? Noticed how Reckoning was the last to get a full statement release, well i remember "Arrival" "Mortal" "Hidden" "Aquaman" and "Thirst" had statements not because of total viewers, but because of its demographics and how Smallville was able to target them.

I have to agree, I know it is not popular, but Superman should not be rated PG-13.
Desperate Housewives, the OC, <any other "skin" show> have all the nudity you can. I am all for it. I grew up watching Dukes of Hazzard and could not get enough of Daisy.
But superman is different. Part of the appeal is that is always ethically moral. It just does not fit , to show Chloe in a shower, I know there are so many Chloe lovers, but any girl on a superman show should not be shown in a shower.
I know this is unpopular , but I have children.

Absentee - It sounds like you have the mediaweek numbers since you are talking about demo break downs. Could you post them for us?
jimmyolsenblues - Yeah, I had trouble watching b/c my young daughter kept trying to come into the bedroom and I did NOT want her to see the scary images. I'm sure other parents had trouble getting to watch or some families might have decided not to watch in case it was too gruesome/scary.

On zap2it,
Lockdown was a 3.0
Reckoning was a 3.8
Vengeance was a 3.3
Tomb was a 3.1
Absentee, so far many of the things you have said are false. Last week's rating was not a 4.2 in the numbers that zap2it uses, it was a 3.3 .. and Lockdown has been the lowest rated, not Tomb.

MediaWeek released the 4.2 for Vengeance not Zap2it. Total viewers: 5.36 from LATimes.com (http://www.calendarlive.com/tv/cl-et-tvratingstext8feb08,0,7189457.htmlstory?coll=cl-tv-top-right) <<More accurate site
Oh and My bad... 2nd lowest. Does it make a difference? They really don't care much about the total viewers, they care more about the Demographics.
I wish i'd kept all the WB's Press Release in the beginning of this season. They specifically pointed out Demographics, because that means more to advertisers, its what gives them money.

i am not trying to argue, but, Lana has had, about 3 maybe 4 shower scenes, and maybe 2 or 3 naked/strip scenes. and lois has had one shower scene and 1 or 2 stip scenes. tom has had a shower scene, and of coarse strip, heck! even Lionel had a shower scene!

Lockdown was a 3.0
Reckoning was a 3.8
Vengeance was a 3.3
Tomb was a 3.1
These are zap2it.com numbers. Lockdown was rated lower than Tomb and you have to take into account the 100th episode will get a bump and the show after it will get a slight bump. I think Tomb had more total viewers than last weeks episode. So, your sadly mistaken.

To compare:
Lexmas Overnights: #3t, 4.0/ 6; Viewers: #5, 5.24 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 6
Fanatic Overnights: #4t, 3.8/ 6; Viewers: #5, 5.22 million; A18-49: #5, 2.2/ 6
Tomb Overnights: #4, 4.0/6; Viewers: #?, ? million; A18-49: #5, 2.2/6
If you go to the media.com article linked on the previous page apparently Dancing with the Star went up substantially.
Viewers are showing more and more interest as the season winds down and couples are eliminated. Five couples remain on the show heading into tonight’s results show.
The show was up 7 percent over last week’s 17.8 million at 8 p.m.,

Well the night is tougher, Dancing with the Stars is on ABC vs Alias then, and the new Survivor ratings are up almost a million from the previous group, at least according to EW for last week's ratings.
It did well.

All I can say is that in our market smallville comes on at 10:00pm cst. If it were on at 7:00pm cst that would be better for the ratings. It gets tough staying up til 10 to watch it. LOL

Tomb did great! Just look at the numbers. It's exactly where it should be for Smallville. You had a bump for the 100th episode and then you have a drop off and Tomb did well.
To compare:
Lexmas Overnights: #3t, 4.0/ 6; Viewers: #5, 5.24 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 6
Fanatic Overnights: #4t, 3.8/ 6; Viewers: #5, 5.22 million; A18-49: #5, 2.2/ 6
Tomb Overnights: #4, 4.0/6; Viewers: #?, ? million; A18-49: #5, 2.2/6
from ms. c post. Tomb did just fine!!!

What I don't understand is how the second episode of That '70s Show could beat the ratings of the first episode of the evening. (The first being a new episode, and the second just a repeat airing).
Anyways, I get to watch both Smallville and That '70s Show on Thursdays (seeing that I get them both on the same channel - Fox 44), but if I had to choose, I would choose Smallville.
