We have known about Chloe's crazy mom for such a long time now. So we finally get to see her....errrr....well not really. we just know she has dirty blonde hair. So why couldnt we get a face for Chloe's mom?? I think a face would have added a little more emotion to the scene. I dont feel satisfied. Its almost like I saw Chloe hugging a random person.

Oh and by the way Smallville people...That was 2 episodes in a row with hugging and crying at the end. how emotional are we getting here......"LIKE THE SANDS OF THE HOUR GLASS SO ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES!" LOL...Smallville the Soap Opera edition.

bet she was hugging Tom with a blond wig on, they probably cannot afford another gueststar, spent all thier money on Cyborgs non metallic appearance:)

You know, I read before the ep that we wouldn't see Chloe's mom's face, so I thought maybe that was influencing me. But my sister didn't read it, and she agreed with me that it was very distracting that we didn't see her face. It was deliberate enough to call attention to itself and make us think more of that than of her reaction to Chloe or Chloe's reaction to her.

I was expecting to see another person from Superman to be playing Chloe's mom. Another let down!

From a writer's standpoint, as the scene unfolded, I was HOPING w/ all my might that we would NOT see 'Mom's' face. It was a much more powerful scene that way. There is plenty of time for that relationship (Chloe/Mom) to unfold... Showing her face in this backdrop would have weakened the scene; remember, this was about CHLOE, NOT Mom... :)

Exactly. Just as brevity is the soul of wit, sometimes less is more. The emotional impact was light years ahead of anything had we seen Chloe's mom turn and face the camera. It ultimately doesn't matter what she looks like, it matters to how it affects Chloe.

I saw it as not showing her face in case they bring her back later with a different actress.

I think that not being able to see her face was a good thing on the writers part. This leaves us with the hope that we will finally get to see her face, which will give the writers the chance to have another filler episode dealing with Chloe and her mom.

I agree with Darkrage, it would be nice to at least see one hero in the DC universe in costume, evening if their not in the suit, it would be nice to see them picking it up from the drycleaners or something.

As much as it would have weakened the scene... i still wanted a face :)

I love the scene, for a second I thought she wasnt going to go up to her. Im glad she finally went to see her, it was a nice suprise. I would have like to see her mothers reaction for a more emotional scene, but I still liked it.

But I don't have much faith in SV. I mostly expect that we'll never see Mom again.

And, as I said, I found it distracting and thought it detracted from the intended emotional impact of the scene.

I guess we all get different things out it. I've seen several posts from people who love it and several posts from people it annoyed.

Sorry, but I wanted a face.

Most of this has to do with the fact that in Chloe's nightmare in "Scare," she saw the back of her mother's/her head, and then when the figure turned, it was Chloe with these horrible eyes and lips. Creepy. A symbollism of what Chloe was afraid to turn into--her mother.

Seeing the face would confirm that Chloe's mother is not a monster. I would have loved to see the look in her mother's eyes when she saw Chloe (especially since they pushed THAT fact as well in the episode).

My opinion, don't promote it if you ain't gonna sell it. :D

Exactly! Tptb aren't sure if they wanna use momma Sullivan again, so why hire an actress you might not be able to use later. After all, we all remember Morgan Edge, right?

Well in all honesty, her mom is in a mental institution, maybe Chloe's mother didn't recognize her. Some people in mental hospitals don't recognize or sometimes even remember their own family or even best friends.

I was very good friends with this guy once who was the son of my mother's friend, so we knew each other since we were toddlers. He was so much fun, we were like brother and sister. He had no siblings except a brother that was much older so he and I would always hang out. He moved away to the big city but we still got together sometimes on the weekend.

On day I received a call from my mother that something had happened to him, he had, had a major psychotic break or something and had to go to a mental hospital.

By the time he was stable enough they let me in to see him, I walked over to his bed, took his hand, smiled and said "Hi (anonymus)" and he said "Hi...you sound very nice...what's your name?"

I was shocked, and so sad, my eyes started to tear up and I said with a shaky voice "Don't you recognize me? We've known each other for almost since we were born"

He looked me straight in the eye, with his blue eyes and a confused look on his face and he said "What are you talking about? I've never seen you before in my life. Maybe we could be friends? Would you like to be my friend?"

I grabbed him and hugged him tightly as I cried into his gown and said "Yes, I would like to be your friend"

:(

*I think it was because they couldn't find a good enough actress for Chloe mom.

*I think it was because we were supposed to see Chloe's face and her reaction.

*When Chloe walked up to her I immediately thought that they had shot this scene twice once with Allison as Chloe and once with Allison in the hospial gown and they put the two films together and that's why their hair looked exactly the same.

When I saw that last scene with Chloe and her mom, my mind flashed back to my own scene and I started crying as hard as Chloe was.

Heck, they haven't even mentioned Chloe's dad Gabe in a year and a half, and he's the parent that she's seen in the last ten years!

Maybe Gabe DID die in that house! LOL!

The way Mom put cradled Chloe's face, it looked like she recognized her.

i always thought it would be funny that when chloe pulls away from her mom, a nurse comes and is like "no ms. sullivan, your mother is over there..."

THis epsiode had a few plot holes. I thought t that they didn't show Chole Mom's face because she would be WAY to old for Chloe. I figured it was a last minute fix for the plot hole

Their hair didn't look exactly the same to me, but that could be due to styling, I guess.

Certainly it was shot in such a way to make her mom look taller than her.

I liked the fact we didn't get to see her face, like others have said builds anticipation for future stories. I was thinking maybe Helen Slater as Chloe's mom... what do you guys think? For those who don't know she played "Supergirl" she seems the right age and has the blonde hair plus she was in a related film of superman though forgetable.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

Helen Slater would be a very good person to pick! I can just see my good pal John Custer gushing over that idea!

BTW, this is alittle off topic but did anyone notice that in the previews for next week, Vic wears a purple and black leotard that looks similar to what Beast Boy wears? I thought it was a nice touch!

I would like to see Rebecca DeMornay as Chloe's "mentally ill" mother. Yowsa!

I would totally geek out and bounce around my apartment if they got Helen Slater to guest on the show. I must be one of the 25 people in the world that loved the Supergirl movie so much (don't laugh, I'm actually serious) that I actually was furious to find they had killed the character off in the comic books. Of course, now that they've brought the real Supergirl back, I am totally hooked. :rotfl:

But, yes, I would love to see Helen play Chloe's mom. Dunno how tricky it would be for them to get her, or if the studio would let them cast her (her movie did totally bomb, after all), but hey.

I only say Helen Slater cause of the VH1 teen stars countdown show. She talked about her movies " Billie Jean and Supergirl ". She says she still acts, guest star shots on" Will & Grace and Greys Anatomy" though I could be wrong on "Greys Anatomy" not sure.

Why do we need to see her face? The whole point of this story arc was Chloe facing her fear, that is her Mom. And she did just that, I doubt the writers will go into this arc again as it really serves no real purpose, aside from developing Chloe's character.

Having Chloe go crazy doesn't seem like a good plot either, so I'm pretty sure they just wanted to tie up this loose end.

We needed to see her face because deliberately not showing it was distracting and detracted from the emotional impact of the scene for some of us.

ps - the database would have to erase posts from a day I had about 30 posts, wouldn't it?

Yeah, but usually I post about ten posts a week. It's not heartbreaking, but it had put me a lot closer to 1000 posts (and I thought I might get "promoted" then, but wasn't sure).

I think not showing the face was intentional for two reasons. First, I think the intent was to focus on Chloe's emotional reaction to her mother. Second, mental illness is extremely dehumanzing and by not showing the face it reinforces the idea that we are not looking at the real person, but a shadow, an apparition of the real person.

Beyond the artistic interpretation, not identifying the actress leaves the future open to explore a future story arc without the necessity of finding the same actress.

The scene was meant to be humorous in an indirect way. We're supposed to laugh at Chloe and her mother.

I hope they don't get too carried away with the hugging and crying all the time, we all remember what happened to Buffy, every 10 minutes she was bursting into tears.. its like 'Shut up! and kill something' a little off topic there but still relevant

Right, but Chloe's not a vampire slayer. She's a journalist, therefore her abilities might actually come in handy at a time like this. She could become a voice for people with these sort of ailments.
