so, how would you rate this episode on a 1-5 scale? (1 being the best, 5 being the worst)
I personally wasn't all that fond of it. It wasn't really the best, but then again, there have been plenty worse. Most of the acting was great, but the plot was just lacking, IMO. It had potential, but just seemed to fall flat... What do you think?

i have never had a problem with the acting in SV (except Whitney and Aquaman).
My only problem resides in atrocious writing that has been spewing from the butts of the creative team for SV.

I agree with you BoSoxJim.
The writing has sucked so bad latley that I passed up watching tonights episode. I just didn't want to be let down again, by another rediculous episode. And from what I can tell, that's what this episode was.

heh, I'll 2nd that! Sometimes it just baffles me at how bad the writing can be. You would think that someone would review these (hmm, maybe Al or Miles? we can only wish!) and be like, "ok, that script sucks. Let's change <insert incontinuity, plot hole, or stupid idea here>." Instead we get mediocre "filler episodes," that don't further the plot very much and are so poorly written that they leave many viewers wondering "what the heck was that?" They need less filler and more continuity.
For instance, in reckoning, Lana asked for a break. Then in vengence, she was almost the girlfriend role again. Now, she was all complaining about not being able to talk to Clark, and hanging more with Lex. Just doesn't make sense (along with a lot of other things).
The only real forward progress in the episode was that the rift between Clark and Lex is opening more. Like when Lex said something like "Chloe should be getting the help she needs, but instead she is out there with a weapon. Good going." You can really see how much Clark and Lex are starting to fued, and the way Lana is spending time with Lex, I can only see it growing.
Maybe after I watch it a 2nd time I'll enjoy it more...

I wish SV would do like the FX shows. Have a 16-17 episode season.... then we wouldn't have crap filler episodes.
There were a few good things to come out of the episode.....
Chloe going to see her mom.
Lionel. Anything with Lionel is good.
and the love triangle thing.
And when are Chloe and Clark gonna get busy??

The thing I would be worried about is that having less overall episodes's would actually make the filler ep.'s squeeze out the rare excellent ones hidden in each season, rather than making the series tighter as a whole. Scary thought, eh?

i don't mind filler. just make it well written filler and not just a rape of another show or movie (which is what the sv creative team has been doing for awhile now)

I don't mind filler either but it's kind of annoying when most of the recent filler episodes have been 'this is sv's take on [insert name here] movie/tv show.' It also works against them when some of the original material being lifted is often better than the end result.

For a filler episode, it wasn't too bad. I gave it a so-so.
I think the thing that saved it was Allison Mack's acting. She does insane very well. I would have preferred her being insane than being possessed, however. I'm not too big on spirtual possessions, and I hated that bracelet.
Speaking of which, what happened to that thing? Clark zips in, gets sick, Chloe hits the serial killer with the bracelet, and then the bracelet disappears and Clark's okay? Am I missing something?

I gave it a two. It wasn’t amazing, but I’m completely in love with Allison Mack, and she really was last night’s northern star. She’s a beautiful woman and an amazing actress, and I’ve certainly seen worse (have you seen WWE Smackdown lately? Yeesh.)
People keep giving Allison props for her insane acting, but I think that’s selling her short. She had to pull out all the stops, playing Chloe, Chloe insane and then Gretchen all in the same episode. It must be taxing to put herself in three different states of mind all at once like that.

I didnt like this episode.. It set up that Clark and lex seem to be getting more catty, with each other, but other than that. It was a boring filler episode placed at the wrong time. I thought after JK's death, this would be the time to move the overall superman plot even more, and instead they seemed to go with this. Also interesting to see how Clark's anger just went away and all it took was one episode to get it out. I would have liked to see him cope on screen more before getting better so to speak. Also, give him the power of flight or move the overall plot along. I think this show has so much potential, but sometimes I question the writers and what the heck they are actually thinking.

People throw the term "filler episode" around too easily. A filler is an episode that contains no real character or story development, and could be completely taken out without making a difference.
This episode not only had some character development, it moved forward on a storyline introduced a season ago that a lot of people have been waiting to learn more about. (The thing with Chloe's mother.) Not dealing directly with the main storyline or lead character doesn't automatically make an episode a filler.
As for rating the episode, the performances were great. And I also liked the storyline. Then again, I like ghost stories in general. I had some issues with some details but, overall, I enjoyed it.

Sorry, the 1=great business throws me off. Here's mine, with a 5=great, 1="the suck" system:
the first 50 minutes--great. 4.5
the climactic end of the baddie-- 2. what the crap was that?
Clana pseudo-non-break barn convo-- about -37. Two steps forward, three miles back.
Mionel--4. Lionel's a bad, bad man.
Chloe's mom-- 5. Faceless continuity is STILL continuity.

Totally agree. The best part of this eppi. was the last 10 minuts. Although I did find myself laughing at the let down at not seeing Chloe's moms face. It reminded me of the clasic Cheers eppi. when after years of hearing about Norm's wife Vera we all think we are going to finally get to see her. Just as she enters the room she gets a pie in face!

4.5, only because the Lana-Clana-Lexana-Marionel scenes diluted it too much. AM deserved more screentime (after 4.5 years of shadows & background, she AT LEAST deserved that)... Writing was average, but AM rose to the top (as the cream always does) & overcame those deficiencies. All-in-all, one of the best eps of S5 so far. Chloe rocks!

One of the worst episodes EVER!!! Relative to the rest of this wonderful season, this episode was for lack of a better word an abortion!!! I won't even bother to comment on the main plotline with the ridiculous "possesion/Ring" crap because it wasn't worth talking about. As for the few minor subplots, although they were at least headed in the right direction, they disappointed as well!
The Clana scene at the end had the makings of something great until Clark developed his "super silence" ability. How do you not say A WORD when the girl of your dreams tells you she "loves more than anything"? I get the whole repressed tragic love thing that Clark goes through but even a stutter would've worked better there...
And on the topic of Lana, how DUMB is it that Lana suddenly runs to Lex whenever she's in trouble??? I've said it before and I'll say it a million times, I really pray that TPTB don't indulge these moronic Lexana fantasies that all the KK haters carry on about. Lana has always been vulnerable and naive but never completely stupid! And regardless of how uncomfortable Clarks lying has made her, seriously, I know she still realizes he's ALWAYS there to protect her and support her no matter where they are in their tumultuous relationship!! Since when has Lex and his lying, cheating, life jeopardizing ways been the better option for her??? Again, weak!
And finally, Chloe's reunion with her mother. What a cop out that she was not seen!!! The touching converation with Clark was really setting up something significant, and then, on par with the rest of the episode, the bottom drops out!
At least they were consistant! Also, I really envisioned that heart to heart with Chloe being a segue to a flash to Clark going back to the FOS! When is Clark gonna spend time learning from Jor-El??? The death of Jonathan and loss of Lana weren't motivating enough factors for him to realize he NEEDS to learn more from his biological father??? Not to mention, without Jonathan, was there ever a time when Clark could really embrace Jor-El's support?? What a lost opportunity, IMO!!!
The small "port in the storm" had to be Martha Kent! her scene with Lionel was solid and the ending scene with Clark in which they were both marvelous!
Al and Miles have fashioned an incredible season thus far!! Let's hope these bizarre Lex/Lana fanatics and outright laziness don't screw it all up now....

4 really begging for a 5. It's just getting to damn ridiculous. Give a State Senate seat to a farmer, sure. Maybe. But for his coffee shop running wife to be next in line after his death?
JLK;AJFKL;DSJAK;FDJSKA;FJD;ASJF;DSAJKF
Oh, she went to college 20 years ago, has helped run a farm, a coffee shop and was an assistant to Lionel Luthor since then. That qualifies. I'm convinced.
Seeing as Lois only has limited appearances on the show, she shouldn't have been wasted on such a ridiculous one-shot.

I gotta say this epi felt like a filler, I would have thought that during Feb Sweeps the writers would do more Superman mythos. Now...that's not to say that all filler episodes are bad, but this one was about a 3.5 for me storywise.
The acting was soild all the way through, but I got bored with the creep crazy orderlie character, they didn't even try to write something interesting with that one.
I can´t rate it 'cause I haven't seen it yet. Here in Brazil the episodes take longer to show. This tuesday Warner Channel Brasil will be showing "Reckoning" (finnally), but I really want to watch "Tomb"

Just...bad writing. What's with these people?! Hey! Al and Miles! Stop playing around in the kiddie pool with Aquaman!
this episode was LAME, another filler since thirst, there was a body in the talons walls the whole time and now its just been recently disvovered...............LAME, since its only the second bad episode of the season, in my opinion anyways, and Alisons acting deffinetly saved sumwhat of the episode,so ill let it slide, at least there cyborg to look forward to next week woooo!

All be it a very un-cybognetic looking Cyborg.
What this eppi. needed was more down time w/ Clark and Ma.
Chloe did raise a good question about why after all this time she was the one who was zapped or posessed? Is there something about her that makes her more sensitve to that kind of stuff?

I wasn't too fond of this episode, as it was filler, but then I think back to the Lana meets Buffy the Vampire episode. Relativity presiding, this episode was fairly decent for an in between, and we did get hints for Braniacs return.

I say leave the ghosts for Supernatural. I just didn't like the ghost girl and the entire way the episode went. IMO, Supernatural does a far better job with ghost effects and storylines. The Smallville actor's reactions to this ghost were just not convincing to me. I thought this episode was going to be about an FOTW who was able to get inside peoples' heads and make them do bodily harm to themselves.
I also didn't like how at first the ghost was fearless and wanted revenge but how she backed off and became a scared girl again. What the hell was that?
I'd give this episode a C at best. I wish they would have actually showed Chloe's mother and perhaps a conversation between them (if that's possible). The ending was pretty nice but they could have done more.

maybe they're making these eps so bad, that we'll think the next few are worthy of worship.

They really have to lay off copying other shows/movies. The ghost reminded me too much of The Ring (didn't even like it). They did the same thing with the House of Wax in S4. In the 1st 3 seasons, they had so many ideas that other people copied them (or seemed to anyway). Look how Exile had that desert island scene and then how the next year Lost debuted. Also all those hospital scenes in the show, and then House (great show by the way) debuted. I even saw an episode of That 70's Show (another of my favorites) that had a dance while there was a tornado. I may be going overboard, but this show at least seemed to me to have been one that was very worthy of being copied in the past. Even some of their actors (Ian Somerhalder, Jesse Metcalfe, and that guy who played Justin Gaines) were taken by other successful shows.
I think instead of doing this, they should have done an episode where Chloe went through some other traumatic ordeal and where both she confronted her mother and Clark confronted Jor-El. After all that's happened to Clark, I would think he would want to speak to Jor-El.
