The tractor

Here is a question that has been bugging me ever since I started to watch Smallville.

What the hell is wrong with their tractor?!?! They are working on it almost every episode, and why do they need a tractor in the first place? It could just sit here and Clark could do all of the work. Clark threw their old one halfway acrosst he county and they had to get a new one, did they buy a lemon?

The tractor that is being fixed, I think is an antique(it belonged to Jonathan's father). So Jonathan kept fixing it. I remember an episode where Jonathan refers to the tractor as "the old girl" when Clark asks why they don't junk it (or something to that effect). Hope this helps.

its pretty obvious the writers have never worked or seen a farm since Clark has to take off school and wake up at 6am to continously milk cows, fix the tractor and saw wood...:rolleyes:

because lord knows, there couldnt be any other chores to do on a farm and those take HOURS!

If they didnt keep breaking the tractor, they wouldnt have anything for Lana to interrupt every episode so she could tell him she is sick of his lying

I think in Aqua at the end when Clark was talking to AC he we fixing the green tracor and looked he knew what he was doing, then in Vengeance ep same tractor he was like I cant fix this hmmmmm

That poor antique tractor was thrown into the sky and landed on the road. It was probably near the barn when Clark blew it up. No wonder it needs fixing. It's just a shame Jonathan had to waste so much of his brief life trying to put it back together!:D

Good thing Clark doesn't really need any heavy farm machinery to run the farm or else he'd be in trouble! One day he'll figure out how to fix that darn tractor.:lol: :lol:

it's a prop, a staple... no farm is complete without a damn tractor!!! no one uses it because it's a piece of crap and clark does all the work. answered?

I still recall that scene from a prior episode where we were treated to Lex doing some good 'ol farmwork after Lionel booted him from the mansion. Too bad he didn't get any tractor repair time either.

Seriously though the scene did serve well for the writers to mention Pa Kent, whose death should still be weighing VERY heavily on mother and son.

I love that they are keeping it in the show it echoes back memories of Jonathan Kent.

The tractor is a sentimental piece like JK's watch. As has been said by many it is and will be a reminder of Johnathon.

As for why they are always fixing it. Small farms with little income can't afford fancy machinary and therefore must fix what they have. Okay with Clark's abilities maybe the tractor could be more of a yard ornament than a asset, but to keep up the "our farm is normal" ruse having a working tractor would help.

i think the tractor is needed to mow the lawn and harvest the fields or something...coz its old, it keeps breaking down so they keep fixing it! LOL!!!

Clark doesn't need the tractor to mow the fields. He can do it by hand. I think he decides to keep the tractor fixed so that anyone who comes over won't suspect how he has able to blow the field with a broken tractor.
