View Full Version : Chloe cares the most....

Ok, when Clark said the line about where Chloe is the person who cares the most, I had this gut feeling that Chloe is going to die. When, I dont know. But I see that Chloe will die, and Clark will take up her "role" of trying to help people. Completely out there, so...

That line did stick out to me, I figured if anyone it was HIM who cared more for others.
But yeah, I don't think she's dieing anytime soon.

It'd be going out on a limb having her die; two major characters in one season would be really rough on the show.

The DeathWatch(TM) has officially stopped. I'm sure if any other major characters are going to die they'll have a big build up to it like they did before.

I've been curious about her ultimate fate for a while now.
even more so when they did introduce her cousin.
I think she's probably the most likely next one to die... but if Warner Brothers Corporate... owners of DC Comics... bought the character for use in the comic lore.. then maybe she'll live.
Then again, maybe she'll die and end up being talked about in flashbacks.

I don't think that Chloe is going to be offed anytime soon. I think tptb were trying to show that Clark is really just starting to appreciate Chloe more now then ever and I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that there is trouble in Clanaland. He is grateful for having a person like Chloe in his life.

I hope so. Chloe is great. Maybe thats why im so scared that tptb will off her at some time. If they get rid of her before Chlark, im really going to be mad :p

Well, next time they kill someone there should be little or no hype. Like Sheriff Adams. Unless you read spoilers, you didn't see that coming!

I don't think they'll kill Chloe for a long time if it happens at all. I agree that they better give us some Chlark before anything happens to Chloe. I think Chloe's friendship with Clark is making him a better person. She's helping him become Superman.

I don't think they'd kill her off....but I could be wrong. I love when Clark says stuff like that to her. His compliment in this episode, and in solitude...it's so sweet. I love the Chlark.

I think she's gonna die. I've thought that for a while now. Probably not this season but before the end of the show.

That is the point I agree with as the impression i got from the scene as well.
In particular one interesting observation to that:
Clark: Maybe it's because you care more about people than ANYONE I KNOW"!
Clark's comment was made in reference to Gretchen's spirit hold up in the Talon Apartment's 'Tomb' reaching out after 10 years death.
That suggests, that though others who lived there before.....including Lana, Adam, Jason as well as other visitors like Lex Luthor Linoel and Geneveive Teague were NOT chosen to be INITIALLY contacted by Gretchen's spirit like Chloe who finally was.
Only after Gretchen's continued communication to Chloe and with Super Clark's abilities was her remains discovered where Chloe made the final contact touching the Kryptonite Bracelet, transfering her spirit to Chloe.
We see that Clark was right about Chloe caring as we were shown Gretchen's Spirit smiling to Chloe as she takes "Mickie's" spirit in the final retribution/vengeance required.
And Chloe final saying to Clark and Lois, "she finally got what she came for" or dialog similar to that effect.
Also and lastly, Clark's comment does speak volumes, to all other people in his life....Lex, Lionel, Martha? and Lana!

Add Lois to that list as well, she was occupying the apartment at that time. So Clark thinks higher of Chloe than Lois, nice.

perhaps chloe will always be in the show, but her job will be more secrative... she'll probably be keeping her eye on superman for a long time, to make sure he's safe, and he will have no idea. That could be a progressive storyline that doesn't hurt or change the comics. It could be a late sequal, years from now, where Chloe comes to the rescue. Hell, they may as well maker her president some day.

Aside from the example that the original poster made, Chloe also said that she'd die before she told anyone Clark's secret back in Splinter. She also can be considered a target to Brainiac as well as Lex in future episodes. I'm not sure if she is going to die, but I think the days where Chloe runs around helping Clark without being in any kind of danger at all have come to an end. It will start to break her down before long, especially if this mental illness is going to be a future storyline for her.

She'll be in danger...it would be stupid if she wasn't, but Clark will be there to save her, and she won't die for a long time coming....I hope...

Interestingly enough, Clark said she was the most caring, more caring that Lana, his parents, and even Lois. Lois is really just becoming more of a default Lois all the time, as she will be a lesser journalist, a lesser friend, and even care less.

At this point, Clark still really hasn't gotten to know Lois as well as Chloe. They verbally spar, they've had some adventures, but not to the point that Clark and Chloe have. So of course he doesn't see Lois as having the amount of depth Chloe does. (maybe some day...)
I'm not sure Clark was thinking about his parents at all in that comparison, but everyone else he knows? Pretty much looking out for #1.

Chloe obviously does put everyone before herself, otherwise she'd have stopped being friends with lana because of clark a long time ago......

It is obvious that Clark has much admiration and love for Chloe. He truly does trust her. He relies on her. Shares his dreams and hopes with her. He looks up to her in ways that Lanatizing will never allow. Chloe is a strong, loyal, and caring friend. And, Clark returns the favor. In the epi where she dresses up like a cheerleader, quits her job at the torch to give herself time to be devoted to Clark (Devoted epi I think), she lets Clark know that she still has feelings for him, albeit under the influence of the love potion. Clark is very honest with and kind to her. He tells her he in not in love with her, he wishes he had those feelings for her, but he just doesn't. It hurt, but Chloe seemed to accept it. They were honest with each other. Clark can't help how he feels, no matter how illogical his feelings are. Clark and Lana have never been able to share that degree of honesty with one another. That inability traveled both directions. Chloe is very special to Clark. She's proven over and over that she has earned that special place in his life; and him in hers. I think Martha is also coming to this same conclusion about Chloe and how valuable her friendship is to both her and to Clark.

Is it possible for people to praise one of the female characters on the show without bashing the other two? Is it because people see the three girls as competing against one another or what?

I thought when Lana faced two Kryptonians to lead them to Lex's vault, that was pretty heroic. I thought when Lois helped find Martha, saved Clark when she first met him, and took on Jonathan's campaign -- those actions all had elements of heroism. There's something to like in all three of these women. I'm with MBCorp on this one.

Yes it is possible to like all three and not bash any of them. I think that Kristin and Tom have had great romantic chemistry. Because of that I found myself rooting for them to have a relationship even if it had to ultimately end for TPTB to meet the mythos. Would I have liked them to be happy for longer than they were? Yes. Clark and Chloe have a great friendship and I love how well these two work together. Could they have a romance? Again, I think that they could have a romance but it too would have to come to an end in order to fulfill the mythos. As for Lois, right now they have that elementary school feel to the relationship where they aren't comfortable being nice to each other so they tease and in Lois's case punching Clark's shoulder. If you recall this is what elementary kids do when they like one another in that puppy love/crush kind of way. Remember, it is Superman that Lois first falls for. She doesn't see Clark that way, although if I ran across Clark/TW naked in a field I don't see how it would be possible not to have some fantasies about that. I wouldn't mind seeing these two together either but I think the show will end before that happens.

Chloe isn't going to die, if she was going to be written off, it would have happened already. I mean they played around with it at the end of Season 3, but realized that the fan's loved her to much and she brought to much to the show to off her.
She isn't going anywhere folks.

I mean yeah, I happen to favor Chloe over the other 2, but that doesnt mean they dont have their uses. All 3 girls are different, and thats why people like the different characters. Respect everyone's opinion, so they will respect yours.

I think that there is always some fans that feel that their favorite character is being overshadow for the other so anytime something great comes for her they feel like is a contest and her girl is on top so is only natural.
I'm a Chloiser and I do find Chloe as the better of the two girls but I don't bash I can tell what I don't like about the character but only if mandatory.

Aside from what Watching smallvile wrote above in response to this, I think the only thing that maybe gives Chloe the edge on the other two in the "heroic" department is the fact that she knows Clark's secret. How can Lana and Lois ever save Clark at the fortress from Brainiac? For this reason, Chloe can save Clark's life and Lois and Lana cannot. I still wouldn't say that Chloe is a more heroic character, she has just been given more information than the other two so she can help out more as a result.

It's not about Chloe saving Clark, not to me (well, I enjoy it, but it doesn't factor much in the "heroic" aspect). Chloe wants to make a difference. We see in her trying to take down the baddies, especially in the Chloe chronicles, and in her encouraging Clark towards heroism and the like.
She sees bad things happening, and she works to stop them.

Yes, and she is encouraging Clark towards heroism because she knows his secret. Lana and Lois aren't going to push clark toward something that they don't know about. As for wanting to take down the baddies, that too is because she knows Clark's secret. Whenever Clark has a hunch about something/someone, he goes to Chloe because a)she knows his secret and b)she is a reporter. He never goes to Lana or Lois so they are never given the opportunity to help out.

See, and this isn't exactly true either. Before she knew his secret, she was pushing him to be a better *person.* Exile comes to mind.
"You're not being noble, you're being a coward!" The confrontation in his apartment where she told him about the people in Smallville who needed him, and shortly after, once he got the ring off, he went back to the farm.
The next episode, when he went to visit Chloe he appreciated her for keeping his whereabouts a secret and what she did for him.
It's just that now, it's on a much bigger scale. Chloe can see things much farther than Smallville, and at this point Clark can't.
Whenever Clark has a hunch about something/someone, he goes to Chloe because a)she knows his secret and b)she is a reporter.
We find out in the PILOT EPISODE that it's her goal to report the truth of the weird goings on in the "leafy little hamlet."
You've never seen the Chloe Chronicles have you? In particular the first ones set towards the end of season 2 where Chloe didn't know Clark's secret?
Chloe: On October 16, 1989, Smallville became Meteor Capital of the World. Ever since that day our little town has been besieged by a staggering number of seemingly inexplicable and allegedly unrelated events.
I should know. I’ve been keeping score. I’ve chased sources an Area 51 fanatic would scoff at. I’ve investigated leads that any conspiracy theorist would just call paranoid. I’ve printed stories that any sane paper would just reject. (Pause) The problem is they’re all true. Now I have a theory. I believe the 1989 meteor rocks are responsible for some of the strangest things never printed by our mainstream press. Unfortunately for all of you nay-sayers, backing down is so not my style. I’m sick of the dirty looks and the not-so-covert eye rolls. This time I’m gonna prove my theory beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Now here’s the thing. People are dying and the one thing the meteor shower did not grace upon our humble burg is a superhero. So in his absence you’re left with me. One girl on a mission who refuses to leave any rock, especially ones from outer space, unturned. I’m Chloe Sullivan and I’m here to tell you the truth.
That's the intro to the first season of the Chloe Chronicles. It's her mission to expose and report because OTHER PEOPLE are getting HURT and DYING.
He never goes to Lana or Lois so they are never given the opportunity to help out.
Of course not, because they don't really care. They've never been shown to. Unless it directly affects them in some way.

Lana gave Clark his dad's watch. There's nothing to gain from doing that since she's the one that wanted a break. She also helped him in "slumber" when she could've thought that he was crazy back then. She didn't because she truly believed in him.
Lois saved Clark from killing Alicia's murderer. She was also there for him in "blank" and gave him advice even when she didn't have to

Clark also opened up to Lois about his relationship with Lana in 'Gone'. Also Lois could have left Clark naked in the field in 'Crusade' but did the "good samaritan" thing ;) She also alerted jk to former campaign manager's false representation of him in the media.

We've seen Lana and Lois do heroics, too, and I am not ignoring that. But their's tend to be isolated events instead of a daily attitude, unlike Chloe.
Crazy4Smallville

All three girls have their heroic moments. However, only Chloe pursues justice as a passion and as a conscience decision. Lana only reacts to situations she's in, but she doesn't even know who or what she wants out of life. She's had this battle with her identity since season one when she quit the cheerleading team to work at the Beanery. Then she pursued the Talon, but not because that was her passion, but because she couldn't let go of her parents. Then she went to Paris to study art, not because it was was her passion (I mean come on... have you seen or heard Lana do anything that has to do with art?) but to run away from Clark. Now, she is pursuing Astronomy because of the space ship and second meteor shower. She's a very selfish character who doesn't even know who she is, which is opposite against the trait of a leader.
Lois is in-between Lana and Chloe. She doesn't quite know what she wants to do in her life and she too is running away (just not from a boy, but her father), but she knows who she is - she's her father's daughter. She's tough as nails and knows what she likes and dislikes. She is like Chloe in the respect that she hates injustice and when the battle rages, she has no qualms about jumping right into the matter, no matter the danger she faces.
I think that Lana and Chloe was made to encompass the traits of Lois on polar extremes. Clarks love for both Lana and Chloe will find balance in his love for Lois.
Also, what makes Chloe a hero is the fact that she doesn't have any superpowers, but that doesn't stop her from trying to bring justice and truth to the world. Her weapon/superpower is her pen - and she uses it responsibly and well. She's as much a hero as Clark, if not more at the moment - because at this point she uses what power/gifts she had to make a difference in the world and Clark is still thinking about himself right now and what he wants. He hasn't seen the bigger picture yet, but I think with Chloe's help, he will.

Is that just an observation you're making or are you basically saying that Chloe is the one that cares the most just becuz' she devotes her life to altruism? If you meant the latter, then we don't agree. One doesn't have to do what Chloe does just to be heroic, or to be the one that cares the most. And they obviously don't have to do it on a daily basis just to prove that.
And BTW, it'll be nice to see what got her to the point where she wants to devote her life to helping others. Just curious, is all. And it would have given her more depth as a character.

What's the one common denominator in that? CLARK
I was speaking more on OTHER PEOPLE/STRANGERS.
I'll give you the Slumber ep for Lana, but that started out just to help Clark.
As for the watch? Yeah, she did have something to gain, she wanted to take a break, didn't really mean it, so she got the watch back for him to get back in his good graces. I'm not sure if that's what she intended, but some people do that.
Lana and "Lois" haven't really been shown to be selfless through the course of their development on the show. Lana started out very differently, with the blood drive etc, but all that changed quickly.
Only in very rare occurrences does it happen for them, and usually only when it affects them, or Clark (or people they know) in some way.
Chloe, OTOH, has CONSISTENTLY been shown, SINCE THE PILOT to want to help OTHER PEOPLE. She, unlike Clark has no super powers, but she has the ability to report the truth to the public.

Is it so much though that Chloe wants to help people, or is it her journalistic drive for the truth influencing her actions? I think we've seen enough evidence from the show itself that Chloe has a great desire to uncover the truth and an insatiable curiosity, but are her motivations always purely altruistic? Chloe's motives haven't always been selfless and pure, the show has done a good job of highlighting that, and she has hurt people in the past with her curiosity and getting into other people's personal business. I'm also reminded of the scene in Vengeance where Chloe is incredibly excited about the Angel of Vengeance story making the front page and seems more interested in that than in Clark's problems, and he even calls her on it. That scene did a good job of highlighting that side of Chloe's personality. Then there's the episode Truth. While Chloe was under the influence of the truth serum in that episode, her actions weren't really all that different from usual, her desire for the truth was just more intense than usual. That episode was actually a pretty interesting character study, and helped to show the dark side of Chloe's personality.
Now, saying that, I do think Chloe is a good person who has a desire to help people, I just don't think she's as pure and selfless as people are trying to pass her off as being. I'm not going to bash Chloe and act like she's a complete monster just to make Lois or Lana look good. But like Lana and Lois, Chloe does have flaws in her character, and I think the show has consistently shown that her drive for the truth and her curiosity are not always from pure and selfless motivations.

Chloe is sitting on the story of the century. Of course she has her flaws just like any well written character. If her motives were anything but pure, she would have written the story of a lifetime the day after Alicia betrayed Clark.
Clark has his super abilities to make the world a better place. Chloe's need to be an investigative reporter is her way of making the world a better place. Working together they really compliment each other.:)
