Isobel the witch takes over the body of Lana in the 21st century, and Lois and Chloe also become possessed.

I laughed out loud all throughout this ep. Clearly its not one of the classics but I thought it was hilarious and the commentary really makes it funnier. Plus Steven S. Deknight got away with an Evil Dead reference. That was a classic line.

Once again naughty girls....and I'll say Isabel since I did like her as a character, what we saw of her.

I didnt even buy the set for the eps. I have most of the tivoed but I was interested in the commentaries and the featurettes. Its probably not worth the 40 or so bucks I paid, but I cant missing one season. It would look weird on my shelf.

Feel about the same. Going to finish the collection either way. Just have to the entire set when it comes down to S5 and however far the show goes.
Same goes for my Lois and Clark collection.

Good point. Must not forget that series :)
I have to be honest. I've only ever seen this episode with commentary on. I tried watching it without commentary, and by the time Isobel was yanking hairs out of Lois I was like "that's it, I'm going to go watch Charmed now, because at least that way I know I'm killing brain cells on purpose!"
However, watching it with commentary is a riot and a half. And you still get all the good parts of the episode, which is entirely the eye candy, regardless of who you prefer to see scantily clad.
I loved the comment about the Clark/torture scene where Allison (I think) says "this really wasn't hard for us to film at all" followed shortly by "those lats are out of control!"
joeybw
02-08-2006, 04:12 PM
That commentary was really funny, especially when Allison and Erica freaked out over Toms body in the torture scene
I liked the part when Erica said that she looked weird coming in the barn with Kristin and Alison because her boobs were huge (or something along those lines).

I loved this episode even witohut commentary but with commentary I can never skip it. It's a fun episode and that scene at the end where Jonathan comes in with a bra and Martha says 'where did that come from' was priceless,. And then when Clark starts trying to explain what happens its clear just how crazy the story was and Jonathan's scepticism is too funny

An episode that has its moments, but is ultimately pretty bad. The TW dancing scene will forever be one of the funniest moments on the show. There are also a few other guys dancing at the party that crack me up as well. Posessed Lois checking out her breasts is awesome too.

Loved Clark dancing too.
Also loved some of the funny dialogue, like "Ahh the woods of France, I'd know them anywhere!" and the witch possessing Lois commenting on her breasts and Isobel saying, "Yes, they're very nice" in a deadpan voice, and then Isobel throwing Jason against the wall and saying, "You have no idea what you are dealing with, little man!"
Ah geez, this was such a dumb, cheesy episode.

The only thing i like about this episode is that through most of it Clark is half naked. mmm, so hot!
also, him dancing at that party was pretty freakin hilarious. made me laugh alot.
the commentary is funny though. I like to watch that epsiode with the commentary becasue you get the funny comments from the girls, and you get to see the scenes with clark. its better to just watch than to listen. the basic plot of this episode was pretty dumb in my opinion.

Comparing Spell to Ageless makes Spell into a pretty dang good episode

It was an okay episode. Isobel is rather cool; seeing Clark dancing with the Princeton guy there had me nearly falling off my chair in laughter. Loved the darkness of the bloody fingers on the piano with Lex, and his talk with her at the end. The virgin hair strand was cute, too. Great episode in some parts but too silly in others - witch possession???

Wish i had the commentary, got all of mine on disc on the "down low" so dont have it. Well gutted!!
Loved the whole isobell thing just a shame majic can hurt clark, kind of takes away the speciality of being clark!!

Yeah I agree. I hate when he has these vulnerabilities too.
"Oh wow its most powerful man on Ear-"
"Wait, here's another meteor rock. Let's throw it at him and run."
The magic hurting him kind of sucked but what I really hated is that his powers were taken away from him. What the? Even if they hurt him, his powers shouldnt be able to be removed, its part of him and not "magic" Sigh

I liked it. Both with and without the commentary. It was great to see Kristen play a darker character. I reckon she did it very well. As did Alison. Lois saying "Look at these, I'm gorgeous!" was also great.
Plus I couldn't help but agree with her. ;)

Just saw this episode for the first time. I expected it to be amusingly bad, but it was just ... awful!
or does he have a perm. hair style or Kryptonite scissors?

I like re-watching it with the commentary just for fun. ;)

I just watched this episode for the 1st time! Kristen shows great acting skills- like with the voice and the magic talk lol. She played evil very well.
There were funny moments- tom welling dancing was a crackup.
The part when lana/isabel hugs clark and sneakly tries to cut his hair and when isabel pulls a hair off lois and says she had a grey hair, lol.
The scene in the end where jonathan holds the bra and his like 'can you explain this?', then clarks like 'it was magic' lol.
The non-Virgin hair :rotfl:
You should hear the commentaries by the girls and produces in the DVD section.

I've heard so much about this episode that I went in not knowing what to think.
Tom is amazing in this one, that I do know. His dancing is soooooooooo bad in that scene, it's great! Allison is wonderful as the ditsy witch and Lois gets that great line about her boobs! I did not like Lana/Isobel at all though, thought she was way over the top. Instead of coming across evil, she just came across as a more annoying, power hungry version of Lana, to me. Also, her powers are derived from the book, right? She says at some point in this episode that she has to have the book for her magic. This is never used again in the rest of the season.
But my absolute favorite part of this episode is near the end when Jon Kent comes in with the bra and Clark says "it was magic" and begins to babble. I laugh out loud every time and Tom was brilliant in that scene. I'm smiling even as I remember it now! :D
So I understand why people didn't like it but it had some great moments.

This wasn't one of my favourite episodes, but the scene with Clark and his parents as he is trying to explain about the bra was funny. I laughed especially at Martha's shocked expression and when Clark said it was magic and she said "I'm sure it was".

Once again, the use of a deleted scene could've added to the episode. There was a throwaway comment by Clark about birthmarks when asked how much of Chloe he'd seen at the party, a nice reference back to "Red". It's a trend I'm noticing; the deleted scenes actually have continuity in them, one of the things this show is lacking.

i thought this ep was hilarious... i'm a Charmed fan so I like to see different depictions of witchcraft...
Don't really know what the witchcraft had to do with the story, but I liked this episode purely because Lana wasn't so.... Lana...
I like Isobel...
Speaking of this ep, I was looking for a picture from it.. I used to have it... now I don't..
It's from the scene where Lana touches the book, and her eyes turn purple...
I can't seem to find that picture anywhere....

Finally letting loose and partying with their dorky dances.
Their alternate acting was great plus we get to see TW wild out of control lats as AM said in the comentaries.

I loved watching Clarke Grinding and daning with the witches without his shirt on. They were so cheesy and then the guy from the university showed up and Clarke was like"come join the party" the next day he was like "oh i made quite an impression", soooo funny. I also laughed hard when Clarke walked in on Lex and he couldnt stop playing the piano. I dont know why but I found that hillarious, as the look on lexs face was priceless.

What did I think of Spell?
I liked how Clark Kent came over to see Lex Luthor, asking Lex if he had any connections to Princeton University. I loved Clark Kent's line:
Clark: Lex, can I talk to you for a second? I got a big problem. I was supposed to meet this alumni from Princeton University last night...but then Lois wanted to throw a party for Chloe in the barn. Well, the party kind of got out of hand and then the guy from Princeton University showed up...and I think I kind of blew it. Look, I hate to ask you this...but do you have any connections at Princeton? Lex? Lex, what are you doing? Stop! Stop it!"
"I can't," cries Lex.
(Clark Kent pushes the piano out of the way with one hand and saves Lex, breaking Lex's spell).
Clark: Lex, what happened?
Lex: Lana.
The next scene that I liked was when Lana/Isobel pushes Jason Teague out the window. Clark Kent super-speeds outside and catches Jason Teague in mid-air as Jason is flying out the window. Clark Kent caught Jason in the nick of time. That was one of the best special effects of Spell (seeing Clark catch Jason in the nick of time).
Lois/Brianna: His powers are restored.
Chloe/Madeleine: How?
Clark: I'm not from around here. (That was one of the funniest lines of Smallville, especially Clark saying he wasn't from around here).
Lana and Lex
Lex: Lana, I'm glad you're all right.
Lana: Thanks to Clark. I don't know what he did, but Isobel's back to being history.
Lex: I guess we all owe Clark our gratitude.
Lana: I really don't understand him. He can be so selfless risking his life for his friends...and then he turns around and gets Jason fired. Because of what, he's jealous?
Lex: Lana...Clark didn't get Jason fired. I did.
Lana: You what?
Lex: Look, no matter how mature you may think you are...the fact is, you're still in high school, and I wasn't going to sit idle...while someone in a position of authority coerced you into a relationship.
Lana: What are you doing Lex?
Lex: I'm trying to protect you.
Lana: Do you really think that's what I need?
Lex: Lana, I know you're upset...but I only had your best interests at heart.
Lana: My interests are none of your concern, Lex. I'm old enough to decide who I want in my life, and who I don't.
(Lana Lang stops by Lex Luthor's house and Lex tells Lana he's glad she's all right. Lana tells Lex thanks to Clark, Isobel is back to being history. Lex answers that we all owe Clark our gratitude. Lana tells Lex that Clark can be so selfless risking his life for his friends, and then he turns around and gets Jason fired out of jealousy. Lex confesses to Lana, "Lana, Clark didn't get Jason fired. I did." Lana Lang tells Lex off and tells him to mind his own business. That was a great scene. One of my favorite parts of the story. I only feel bad that she blamed Clark about it in Jinx. In the episode Jinx, Lana was angry thinking it was Clark who got Jason fired).
This next episode, my favorite part of the episode is Clark Kent & Lana Lang at the barn loft. In Spell, Lana finds out it wasn't Clark who got Jason fired; it was Lex. She then apologizes in her own way, and once again, Clark and Lana are friends again.
Lana and Clark (at the barn loft)
Clark: Hey, Lana.
Lana: I wanted to thank you. Once again, you came to my rescue.
Clark: Well, it's good to have the old Lana back. Isobel was aggressively sexy.
Lana: Look, I found out that Lex was the one that got Jason fired. I should have known that you would never do anything like that.
Clark: I wasn't thrilled when I heard about you and Jason. But I realize that the way I acted when we were together didn't make you happy.
Lana: No, I always resented you for keeping secrets from me. And I don't want to do the same thing to you. Clark, there's a reason that I came back to Smallville. When I was in Paris, I touched Isobel's tomb, and then there was this flash of light. The next thing I remember is waking up in my apartment, and I had this (Lana shows Clark her tattoo).
Clark: I've seen this before. On the cave wall.
Lana: I should've told you this months ago, but I was too scared. Clark, you know those caves better than anyone else. Do you know what this symbol means?
Clark: No, I don't. I'm sorry.
Kristin Kreuk played a good part as Isobel the witch. I just loved her witch laugh at the beginning of the episode of Spell. Michael Rosenbaum played a good part playing the piano (under the witch spell). The look on his face while playing the piano, he did an amazing job as an actor. The director of Spell said during the Spell commentary that Michael really did play the piano on Spell. He took piano lessons for 7 years).

hands down, my favorite episode ever! I have watched it 23 times, 6 times with commentary. I absolutely love this episode!

This episode was supposed to be about lana and her connection to isobel, copernicus! Not everything has to be about freakin clark

I personally think the funniest line ws at the end, John:"want to explain why i found this in the barn"(holds up bra), clark:"it was magic", martha: "ooh, I'm sure it was"

whaaaat?
Possibly like the funniest episode ive seen.
I never thought it could get any better than possessed Chloe from the last time...
Until you bring in possessed Lana and possessed Lois.

Hey i was wondering could anytime give me more details on the commentary for spell. I've seen the scene at the party with the commentary by AM, ED, and KK...is there any more commentary by them? The commentary I saw was hilarious!! Absolutely loved it!! Thanks.

This epi has become a classic after much early ridicule.
Indeed, KK was outstanding as Isobel, as were AM as Madeleine and ED as Brianna.

LOL, I gave this the lowest score of anybody so far... I guess it's just 'cause I wasn't a big fan of the witches/stones storyline, to put it lightly. Kristin, Allison, and Erica did an awesome job of acting in the roles of Brianna, Madelyn, and Isobel, but it was a little too ridiculous for me. I guess it's smart that they showed how Clark is vulnerable to magic, but other than that, I just really didn't care all that much for this episode... especially since they took out that sweet scene where Clark and Lois got Chloe the typewriter.

I watch it only with the commentary because that's the only way I can tolerate it.
KK did some of her worse acting in this episode. It looked to me that she was trying too hard, hence why I only watch it with the commentary on.

I loved this ep and the commentary with KK, AM, ED was perfect! KK was amazing in the episode.. she is so good in the bad girl role! I did think ED so weak. She did her worse acting in this episode, imo.

So predictable and full of cliches but this ep is so funny :D The Chloe/Lois/Lana alliance as evil witches is awesome, and Clark dancing in is underwears too :p;)
I have a (stupid) question though: when Lana tries to cut some hair from Clark, the scissors break, so how does Clark cut is hair?! With Kryptonite scissors?

when Lois' hair turn gray and what useless, did it mean that she was no longer a virgin?

It was just WitchLana's excuse for pulling it out. WitchLana was examining her hair to see if she was a virgin, and when she pulled it out she said "It was gray" to Lois as an excuse for why she pulled it out. It wasn't actually gray.

me too
I will never forget Clark dancing though. Dancing along to ''what you waiting for'' was the funniest part of season 4.
Why is it that the good looking guys can never dance? He was dorking it up for real.:lol::lol:

Those freaky witches really got my blood pumping:P

Clark: ( Holding up that bra) " mum you dont understand!
IT WAS MAGIC!!!"
Martha: Im sure it was clark..:P
 Hilarious.

That song fit perfectly with the moment at the end of the episode. How Clark lied to Lana once again when she was trying to be honest with him.
Yeah, that was disappointing.

loved Isobel! Kristin did a great job. But like Clark said, even when Isobel wasnt there, Lana was starting to change. S4 was when she began to change, and go darker
I don't believe Lana was going darker in S4. As I said elsewhere, she was more mature and less trusting and naive.
