Kryptonite-spiked energy drinks turn the cheerleader's boyfriends (and Chloe) into devoted slaves. Lex tries to get back Clark's friendship, and Clark has Lex take care of a little problem...

This was a cool and funny episode. It was well done. Any episode where Jason is getting shot at is a great episode

Man Jason was always getting shot at, or tortured (by Lana and in China) or shot and then falling off a cliff and then being the only person to actually ever get beat up by Jonathan and then get smooshed in a meteor shower. The guy just didnt have much luck.

There are definitely some good lines in this episode and TW's comic timing is in top form, but for the most part I feel the humor in Devoted is very forced. And even though people are being shot at and going into murderous rages, I don't feel like anyone's in any real danger. An oddity for Smallville, since they normally do a good job keeping the stakes high.
My favorite "funny" episodes are Transference and the first half of Heat.

I know right. hahaha
Although I have to say Chloe's hand was going places in that Jersey scene...haha
Is it me or there's a recuring theme n the Boy's Locker Room. starting to look like a Hazardous Area.
How would Lois and Chloe know that the Gun heated up? Do they know Clarks powers! NO...
Chloes is still hurting =*(
Great Ending Dediation to Mr. Revee
which is a nice "Devotion" to Christopher

Yeah, RedQ, I agree. The ending being "Devoted" to Mr. Reeve was great. I'm sad every time I see it, though. He was such a good man, and now Mrs. Reeve is dead as well. It's so tragic. I feel for the son, and continue to pray for him.
Speaking of the end, I LOVED the choice of music ("Our Mystery" by Bebo Norman or Bebo Normanson). It perfectly fit the relaxed, happy mood, and I was glad to finally see a happy ending again in "Smallville" (there hasn't truly been one of those since season one). :)
I liked the way Lex and Clark reconciled. It was awesome. And Allison Mack's jersey scene was hilarious as well as sexy. Man, she is hot! And a terrific actress too.

I really enjoyed this episode.
I've never been a fan of Clark joining the football team and this was a hilarious way to sort of play with that.
Chloe was so funny when she became a cheerleader and I loved the jersey scene!
It was also nice to see Lex and Clark become(ing) friends again (I wanted to smack Clark upside the head when he was all "you've been lying to me since we first met" and I wanted to scream "so you have, idiot!").
But I really loved Clark's "love slave" routine in the gym at the party. Really, really funny stuff. (Also, notice how Clark goes and hides behind the girl's when they show up? )
I hate to admit it but he and Lois make a great team!
Oh and was anyone else thinking that all Clark had to do to get the Kryptonite Juice out of his system was (you'll forgive the vulgarity) pee?
:p
Forgot to say that the dedication to Chris at the end was nice. It shocked me though cause i thought Chris had passed away in an earlier Season.

I have always loved Allison Mack as Chloe. She is just adorable. And she is just scumcious in this episode. She looked great just wearing a jersey at Clark's place. Not to mention what she looked like as a cheerleader. She has some great legs. It is a shame the show has made her character into a modern day version of an old maid and not have her put into a cheerleader outfit a lot more often. Allison and her sexy side could have been put to better use on the show and this episode proves that. Because of Ally Devoted is a good and fun episode to watch.

I just saw it for the first time and must say cheerleader Chloe had me smiling and cringing for her sake in equal parts because I like Chlark.
I'm finding I do *not* dislike Lois like I was somewhat led to expect -- and enjoy her in fact, but it did feel a bit like TPTB were grinding down Chloe to push Lois on us.
It was nice when Clark said he didn't feel that way about CHloe that he added "not now". SUrely the writers did that on purpose, no?

I second your motion !!! I really enjoyed this episode as well, and found it to be quite entertaining and extremely well done.
I am surprised alot of people disliked it, as you said. It must be all the Chloe fan's !! Because Clark ruled out any love relationship with her at the end of the show. But aside from that.
I'm 100% behind you, I too think it was one of the Best shows of the Season.

What did I think of Devoted?
I loved this episode Devoted. It was the first time Clark actually gets to play football. One of the teammates became jealous of Jason Teague (after drinking something mixed with meteor-rock) and shot Jason. Thank God Clark Kent comes along in the nick of time. I just love this Jason Teague quote from Devoted:
Jason (to Lana Lang): "I guess it could have been worse if Clark hadn't tackled me out of the way. I've never seen anybody move so fast. Gotta get him off the bench. Of course that shouldn't be hard now. Do they still expel students for taking potshots at coaches?"
Also, Chloe complimented Clark saving Jason Teague. She said, "Nice save, Clark."
Clark asks Lois Lane what she thinks of his football jacket:
Clark: So what do you think?
Lois: They're not really your colors.
Clark: They're the school's colors. (Lois Lane insults Clark Kent, but she was hilarious).
Lois: I'm glad you made the team, Clark, but why be a conformist? At least with the whole farm-boy plaid, as lame as it is... it completely belongs to you.
Clark (retorts back): In the future, let's just restrict our conversations with hello and goodbye.
I loved the Jonathan and Clark scene in Devoted. Jonathan Kent is always there to give his son good advice, whether it's about football, or about how to control or handle your super-powers. They always have a great dialogue when they're together. Jonathan Kent is always around when Clark Kent needs him.
Jonathan: So Clark...tell me, how's football practice going?
Clark: It's actually not going so good. Some guys have been giving me a hard time since they found out I was starting. Missing my passes...
Jonathan: Nobody said it was going to be easy.
Clark: The frustrating part is that I could score every time.
Jonathan: Clark, we talked about that whole thing, remember? The football field is not a place for you to be using your powers to save the day.
Clark: I just said it was frustrating.
Jonathan: Look, son, if you're gonna be the quarterback, then you have to be the leader. Of course they're gonna want to challenge that...especially if they don't think you deserve it. Same thing happened to me.
Clark: I thought your team worshipped the ground you walked on.
Jonathan: Well, not when I was a sophomore, they didn't. See, the coach made me starting quarterback. A bunch of seniors didn't like that, very much.
Clark: What did you do?
Jonathan: I earned their respect.
I loved The Clex scenes (Clark and Lex) and that Clark was willing to give Lex another chance. Well, after Lex comes to Clark's rescue at the barn loft when Jason attacks Clark. Clark thanks Lex for saving his life and tells Lex, "I was lucky you were here, Lex. Why are you here?". Lex gives Clark a copy of the files he's had on Clark and says to Clark, "I wanted to give you something, Clark. It's every file I ever had on you." Clark asks Lex, "Lex, if this friendship was so important...why did you lie to me for so long?" Lex answers Clark, "I don't know, Clark. There's a darkness in me that I can't always control. I'm starting to think that's my curse... why every relationship I have ends badly." Clark tells Lex truthfully, "We all have a dark side, Lex." Lex agrees with Clark and adds, "Yes, but I can feel mine creeping over the corners. Your friendship helps keep it at bay. It reminds me that there are truly good people in the world. I'm not willing to give up on that."
This is the day that Lois writes for a newspaper. (Facade is the first time she writes for The Torch). Lois questions Mandy and asks Mandy to give her a "quote." Mandy insults Lois and tells her to back off. Lois answers, "Just got my headline."
I like how Jason apologizes to Clark about attacking him. Jason says to Clark, "You saved my life, and I practically tried to kill you. It's not the best way to start this coach-player relationship off the ground." Clark is a big man to accept his apology. He's very Superman-like. Clark tells Jason, "It's okay." Jason answers Clark, "If you want to bring this to the school's attention, I totally understand." Clark smiles at Jason and tells him, "No, coach, you weren't yourself. I'm just glad it wore off." Jason happily tells Clark Kent, "You're gonna do great out there, today. After all what's happened, I think the guys are finally behind you. Good luck, Clark. I'll see you out there." Hurrah for Clark for making the football team! This means a lot to him! Even Lana Lang came to see Clark Kent play for the football team.
.
This was an excellent episode. One of the best episodes of Smallville, Season Four.

HAHA that jersey scene really showed how much of a gentleman Clark really is! He didn't take advantage of a woman with only a jersey on and I'm sure she had nothing underneath that and you all know where Chloe's hand was going!

I loved Clark's line to Lois when she said she was leaving but would come back to visit.

Yeah I think it would because it takes away their powers so it makes them normal. So if he was wearing the blue ring he would have been all over Lana Lang and Lana would have loved it .....because everyone knows Lana wants Clark always.

When i first saw this episode, the minute chloe came out in a cheerleaders outfit i knew this is going to be a great episode. This is one of my favourite episodes of all time. I love Season 4 because it is a lot lighter then other seasons. I love those kind of quirky episodes like Krypto, Aqua, Run, Action and Lucy.

This is a great episode. It may not be a classic but it had some funny moments and ofcourse with Lois who's extremely witty as well as sexy who gets on Clark's nerves. As always I'm going to discuss the most significant scenes when it comes to the most important plot on the Smallville series involving the two main characters in Clark and the intriguing Lex Luthor.
The first scene between them Lex gave a speech to the football players but he was almost refering or directing what he was saying at Clark that "you may never give up on something that means alot to u...u keep trying because sometimes u need a fresh start." Clark obviously noticed why Lex is trying to make up for what he done to him by investigating him behind his back with an entire archive about "solving the mystery of Clark Kent." Clark almost threw it back at Lex's face when he says "I know what ur doing...but u cant buy back my friendship". It seemed quite harsh on Lex and the expression on his face says it all, a look of desperation and disappoinment because it's the only thing that he can look for such is his loneliness and ofcourse the sense that he still values Clark's friendship deeply.
My favourite scene in this episode came in the barn when Lex came to Clark's rescue as he was beaten up by Jason who was in a devoted, jealous rage. As Lex tries once more to reconcile with Clark, he gave for me a memorable line that sums up the tragedy that is Lex Luthor. Lex tells Clark: "There's a darkness in me I can't always control...I'm starting to think that's my curse...why every relationship ends badly...your friendship helps keep it at bay ..it reminds me that there are trully good people in the world..I'm not willing to give up on that"
While Lex darkness can be felt more and more "creeping over the corners", I too always felt that Clark was the only person to stand in the way of Lex's rapid downward spiral into darkness which is why I always felt he shouldn't have gave up on him as easily as he did. I can understand that Clark sees Lex as Segeeth as someone who is power hungry, obssessed with him and the mysterious and one who cannot be trusted but this doesn't mean he cant change his friend's destiny or future and bring him back from the brink. Lex's issues is that nobody trully loves him, he's lonely, felt abandoned even by those close to him and has gone through so much pain and misery in his life through his bad upbringing by his intimidating father. You have to understand from Lex's perspective Clark is the "closest thing to a real friend" his whole life and when he feels his "friend" is lying to him, keeping secrets about himself and other stuff, it makes Lex feel hurt why people dont trust him which forces him and not able to control his obssession of finding out the truth. Can you really blame him?
Obviously for now the friendship is back on for the time being but is all the lies, deceit and mistrust going to continue like in previous seasons? I can see that Lex trully has changed and I've noticed perhaps since beginning of Season 3 that Lex's apparent cold expressions and ulterior motives while not against Clark have become more and more frequent Therefore, things remain uncertain for this intriguing relationship.
Also in that scene in the barn, Lex almost found out some truth about Clark but again he got distracted and Clark again concealing and changing the subject just in the time Lex was about to get suspicious. Lex was eager to just reconcile and not ask Clark questions knowing Clark will jump to conclusions about his motives and start getting all defensive and accusing Lex, etc. the usual Clark reaction and lies when facing Lex's suspicions. Therefore, I felt in that moment perhaps Lex wasn't just distracted but was keen to keep a lid on things for the time being because he just wants his friendship. I actually feel from season 1-4 he cared more about maintaining his friendship with Clark rather than finding out his secrets because afterall he was protecting him from those who tried to exploit him. I genuinly feel that he genuinly feels keeping his darkness at bay was more important to him. Anyway that's just my theory..what's yours?

This episode had SOME good scenes, to be sure. I liked the cheerleader scene the most; it cracked me up. The Clois and Chlark end-of-episode scenes were good too, but it's always bothered me that Clark left Chloe dangling with the "at least not for right now" line. He never really gave Chloe the romantic time of day after that, except for the one kiss at the end of Season 5, so it seems bad for her to string her along like that.

'Devoted' is a really fun episode and another one of my favourites from the fourth season because it is so light-hearted and harks back to the humorous episodes of Seasons One and Two. I liked how it was set primarily at Smallville High (I don't think high school is visited enough in Season Three or Four) and concentrated on corrupt cheerleaders. Chloe as a cheerleader was funny and the Clark-Lois interaction was great to watch. Her determination to get to the bottom of the cheerleader's plot mirrors her future journalistic self that we all know and love.

I just watched Devoted last night. No matter how many times I watch it I always enjoy it. Clark looks particularly gorgeous in this episode, his bumbling Clark with Mandi the cheerleader on top of him is totally priceless. Lex and Clark become friends again. Chloe cheerleader is a treat and Lois and Clark work well together indeed. They needed to find a way of "getting rid" of Lois since she wasn't scheduled to appear in all the episodes and after all Clark did oblige her because she was very intent on leaving high school. It was a fun filled episode, totally enjoyable from beginning to end.
P.S. I don't understand why so many people dislike and discount season 4. Granted the crystal hunting got a little lame at times but at least it was consistent and dovetailed nicely with the Lana/Witch/Posession. It also has one of the best opening episodes and the best closing episodes, what more can one ask.
