View Full Version : Ep 3.14 - Obsession

Clark meets a girl who is also affected by the meteors, and learns that maybe a girl who is a bit like him is the right one for her. But things go sour when it seems Alicia (Sarah Carter) has gone over the deep end... meanwhile, Lana threatens to kick out Adam, and Adam's true role in this game is revealed...

OMG! the ending was so... I can't believe what Lionel did! He's so evil, and then he killed Adam. Ohhh now Ian Sumerholder isn't gonna be on anymore.
The elevator thing scared me, I am going to take the stairs from now on. They were really cute, at the start but then she went all obsessed, which was sad for Clark.
Oh and I was thinking, you know how the lead paint stops her, well does that mean lead effects other kryptonite mutants too?

This has to have the funniest scene of the series when Bo walks in on Clark and Alicia. After I was done laughing so hard I was finally able to say 'Well that couldnt of been good for his heart, or his blood pressure when he finally does get a hold of Clark'

Since becoming a fan of Smallville I've heard all kinds of things about Alicia and this episode (and Unsafe). Finally I got judge for myself.

The good:
Clark is happy again! I love that he smiles and is the goofy Clark (tripping down the stairs!) that we know and love. So great! (until freakin' Lana wipes that smile right off his face!)
The scene in Clark's bedroom. That little smile when Alicia's hand touches him...priceless. And the way he seems to just give in and grab her after hesitating? Fantastic!
The way they ratcheted up the stalking and all, very clever.
Chloe's little comment at Lionel. hee.
Clark's little 'talk' with his parents. The way he throws that out "no, she teleported." great stuff!

The bad:
Alicia going nuttier than a fruitcake. Finally a FoTW that can connect with Clark and she's crazy? Terrific.
Again, Lana blowing Clark out of the waters of happiness.

So it was worth it to watch and I love the beginning of the Clalicia but I don't really understand why so many people like the pairing and why they so vehemently want Sarah back and Clark and Alicia together. Ok, if she wasn't nuts maybe but....*shrugs*

My fav episode second only to Unsafe
And what a great epi it is.. I’ve never seen Clark happier than when he’s with Alicia, I love the way he went after her and how goofy he was, Welling is pretty is right, that’s the Clark we Love :)

That whole thing about Alicia going after lana, was a direct product of shoddy writing.. there was no reason for Alicia to think that lana needed to get out of the picture,.. it made no sense, but then that’s something we’ve become accustomed to

Never the less I will cherish this episode Forever. And if there was only one good that TPTB had done, it would be introducing us to the precious deity Alicia Baker.

1st half off the episode Clark was obsessed secound half Alicia was obsessed after two and a half years of Clana we get this gem and see what Clark really looks like when hes in love and you do not see the chemistry that they had with Clana nothing comes close IMO and I think maybe another relationship may not top this one during Smallvilles entire run IMO

What did I think of obsession?

1) I loved the special-effects from the episode Obsession. Clark Kent uses his heat-vision to break the security camera, so that no one would be able to witness his special supernatural gifts. Then Clark reaches out his arm, and with his super-strength, is able to completely stop the elevator. Alicia witnessed his powers: heat-vision and super-strength. These special-effects were amazing. That was the best part of Obsession. I also loved the Clark and Alicia scene, and their nice conversation.

Alicia: "What did you just do?"

Clark: "Please, don't tell anyone about this."

Alicia touches Clark Kent, and the 2 of them disappear. This is when we first learn that Alicia has the ability to teleport anywhere she wants to go.

Clark (with a surprised look on his face): "What did you just do?"

Alicia: "You didn't want to get caught, and I wanted to help, so... Clark, now you know my secret too. You can't tell anybody, please."

Later

Clark: "Alicia! Hold on. With all the excitement yesterday, I didn't get a chance to thank you."

Alicia: "Oh, it was my pleasure. It's actually a kind of relief to be able to share my ability with someone."

Clark (joking): "Is that what it takes to be friends with you?"

Alicia: "I guess I deserved that. I'm not really as stuck up as everyone thinks. What, you think I don't know what people say about me?"

Clark: "It doesn't bother you, huh?"

Alicia: "I don't know. I'm always afraid that if I get too close to people, they'll find out about me, and realize that I'm a freak. I just figure it's better to be alone, even if people think I'm a snob."

Clark: "You don't mind if I ask, have you always been able to..."

Alicia: "No, it was the meteor shower. One minute, I was swinging on a swing set, and the next thing I knew, I'm in a middle of a corn field."

Clark: "Do you know how it happened?"

Alicia: "Basically, the meteor shower affected my body and allowed me to teleport myself."

Clark: "And anything you touch."

Alicia: "And anything I touch I want to take with me, yes. What about you? Was it meteor exposure too?"

Clark (avoiding a direct answer): "Everything's pretty much connected to the meteor shower, right?"

Alicia: "Right."

2) I loved the Lana & Clark scene, epsecially when Lana mentions the word "obsessed". I thought that was ironic, because the title of this episode is Obsession. This was a cool scene.

Lana (to Clark): "Did you just win the lotto?"

Clark: "What?"

Lana: "No, it's just i haven't seen you smile like that in a long time. Look, I don't want to spoil your mood, but I wanted to tell you something about Adam."

Clark: "What is it?"

Lana: "He's been keeping a journal about me and you. And I don't know if it's because he's jealous or he's just obsessed with us, or if it's more about you."

Clark: "Well, I'll go talk to him."

Lana: "Clark, no, I'm gonna have him evicted. I don't think he'll be bothering either of us anymore. I just wanted to give you a heads-up."

3) This is a great scene, because Clark opens up to Alicia and gives her a more detailed information about his secret. Clark completely trusts Alicia.

Alicia: "So, what else can you do other than punch through steel?"

Clark: "What do you mean?"

Alicia: "Come on, Clark. I know you managed to fry that security camera. I just can't figure out exactly how."

Clark: "With my eyes. They give off heat."

Alicia: "That's incredible! Have you ever shown Lana what you can do?"

Clark: "No. It was actually one of the issues of our relationship. I didn't feel I could be completely honest with her."

Alicia (smiling): "Like you are with me?"

Clark just smiles back at Alicia.

4) I loved the Martha, Jonathan and Clark scene. I always enjoyed their conversations. This is one of the best moments of Smallville: Jonathan, Martha & Clark having a family talk about different issues such as Clark's abilities, teenager problems, etc. This time they were talking about Alicia.

Clark: "Alicia is gone."

Jonathan: "What did she do, Clark, climb out the window?"

Clark: "Actually, she teleported."

Jonathan: "You're gonna have to run that by me one more time."

Clark: Alicia was infected by the meteor shower. She can transport herself wherever she wants. Alicia saved me. We were trapped in a LuthorCorp elevator and the cable broke... and I had to stop it."

Jonathan: "So Alicia saw you use your powers."

Clark: "Yes."

Jonathan: "How much does she know about you, Clark?"

Clark: "She knows about the strength and the heat vision."

Jonathan: "I suppose the next thing you're gonna tell us is that she also knows you get sick around meteor rocks."

Clark (quickly): "No. I didn't tell her that. She didn't have to help me. She was willing to expose her own secret to protect mine. I think that's why I feel such a connection to her. Look, you guys don't get this. We're a lot alike."

Martha: "You really like this girl."

Clark: "Yeah. Maybe I do. I think I found someone I can actually have a relationship with."

5) I love this short Clark and Martha scene. His mother always seems to understand her son, Clark. It's always great to have a conversation with Mom. They always seem to know what to say or try to help you out.

Martha: "Clark, honey, someday you'll find the person that's right for you."

Clark: "You know, for a while, I thought that person was Lana, but I could never be honest with her. And then I thought it was Alicia because she was like me, but -- "

Martha: "Sweetheart, there's - there's nobody like you."

Clark: "Maybe that means I'll always be alone."

6) I love the Lionel & Adam scene. We find out the truth about why Adam is so close to Lana and why he likes Lana. Lionel set them up together for his own purposes. To find out the truth about Clark Kent.

Lionel: "Adam?"

Adam: "Hello?"

Lionel: "Adam, why did I send you to Smallville? Hmm? To become the best friend of Lana Lang. To find out everything she knew about Clark Kent. Wasn't that it?"

Adam just nodds his head.

Lionel (continues): "And instead, you have alienated her completely."

I thought it was annoying how Alicia was always stalking Clark. I've been stalked by a girl before, and it's no good. I guess what really bothered me was that they brought a character that I didn't like at all back for a two-episode story arc in Season 4. So the episode that I guess I TRULY didn't like with Alicia was Unsafe.

Okaay then lets firstly settle this Clark being annoyed with Alicia, if Clark appeared annoyed with her it's only because he just met her so he still had some homosexual tendencies in him, what straight guy when given a lioness opts rather for a putty kat.

Now *rubs hands together* smallvillelogan, in what way was Alicia being sleazey ? I agree about lana but Alicia, no.I'm just dying to know about something that doesn't exist. Be sure before you answer, for the path you are on does not lead to a good place.

I miss Alicia, I really enjoyed this episode. The way they killed her off in Pariah was offensive, the worst moment on Smallville.
Anyway I'm new to the forums and I don't know if it's been a well discussed point, but re: Clark's homosexual tendencies alluded to above - I've always thought that if Clark and Lex made a trip to Brokeback Mountain the world of Smallville would be a lot more peaceful. Wierd thing about Alicia episodes is the first halves of them are usually great, we see Clark actually happy for a change and having fun with his life, then they have to turn her nuts in the second half. lol

I just recently rewatched this episode myself, there was one scene with Pete that I thought was great. He basically high fived Clark for getting it on with Alicia, to bad they didn't show that kind of friendship with Pete more on the show. That is how a BFF should act.

Definantly one of my favorite S3 episodes, I think if somebody not a fan of Lana it's real easy to fall in love with Alicia(trying to kill Lana just a minor issue with her basically...lol).

I found this episode to be kinda creepy. I felt somewhat sorry for Alicia in some ways -- it was clear that she had a few screws loose upstairs and couldn't help her obsessive behavior, but it still made her scarier and more dangerous than almost any other meteor-infected person Clark has come into contact with. Having viewed Alicia's entire story arc now, though, I am not quite as hard on this episode as I used to be, as it does have some elements I rather enjoyed. Sarah Carter did portray Alicia very well, and created a complex, fascinating character. The Clana elements got a bit on my nerves, especially when Lana went from "dropping by to thank Clark for saving her life for the umpteenth time" to "bugging Clark about his secret for the umpteenth time." Chloe was great in this episode -- hilarious in the opening scene at Luthorcorp, and a true-blue friend in the lengths she went to in order to help protect Clark and bring Alicia to justice. The Adam Knight storyline got a bit creepier, too, what with Lana discovering the secret journal he'd been keeping about her, and his disappearance made everything all the more baffling for the time being. All in all, it was a fairly good episode with some elements I wasn't so crazy about (and not crazy as in Alicia-crazy either, haha). :p

I just watched Obsession today, on a re-run watch with my mum (who's watching it for the first time). I enjoy this episode a lot, especially after watching Unsafe and Pariah, and I'm reminded how much I actually really did like Alicia even though she was a complete nut. Clark and Alicia had some awesome chemistry and I loved how much happier Clark seemed to be when he was with her. Especially in this episode. I hated that she was killed off in Pariah.

And I'll always love that hot bedroom scene, especially when Jonathan walks in, the look on his face. I'm surprised he didn't have another heart attack  My mum was like, ''ooh, that's a bit saucy'' and I said ''you haven't seen anything yet!'' Alicia going after Lana was same-old same-old, I mean, just how many people have gone a Lana killing spree throughout the series? It's a shame no one had succeeded.

The last scene with Lionel and Adam was awesome.

That whole thing about Alicia going after lana, was a direct product of shoddy writing.. there was no reason for Alicia to think that lana needed to get out of the picture,.. it made no sense, but then that’s something we’ve become accustomed toI disagree. After the initial "happy phase" Clark realized that something was not right about Alicia, and that feeling rapidly turned into "this chick is nuts!" SANE trumps HOT any day and I really have to wonder about anyone who thinks otherwise. That said, Alicia's increasingly disturbing intrusions into Clark's life revealed his past relationship and (possibly) still real feelings for Lana. Alicia redecorated his loft and we know Clark has at least a few dozen pictures of Lana stashed around there. It's not an impossible leap to believe someone as unstable as Alicia would consider Lana an obstacle to her Clark bliss and go after her. This is the same girl that bludgeoned her dad and who knows what she did that guy she used to like a lot.

The Clana elements got a bit on my nerves, especially when Lana went from "dropping by to thank Clark for saving her life for the umpteenth time" to "bugging Clark about his secret for the umpteenth time."Lana is fixated on Clark's inability to be honest with her. No different really from Lois's "like a dog with a bone" trait when she goes after a story. Anyway, we know Clark and Lana STILL have feelings for each other no matter how they try to bury them and just be friends or whatever. Alicia's admission about Clark to Lana had to sting. If I were in Lana's shoes, I would have "bugged" Clark, too. I think we all have the ability to stick with something that really bothers us, especially when you KNOW someone is being less than honest and won't TELL you whatever it is they're hiding but insists on being a PRESENCE in YOUR life.

I love this episode. Clark looks so happy. Of course, Clark looks happy. He thinks he's found someone he can be somewhat honest with because she has a secret, too. But, this being Smallville, there was no way he was going to be happy for more than 5 minutes.
