What I remember most about this episode was feeling panicked after Clark found Jonathan in the barn and then when the preview for Velocity came on I started laughing because that was made so obvious that Jonathan was going to live.

I remember the cape the most. That was really a great scene.

My jaw dropped when I saw that scene. Getting a peek at the cape was very cool. Overall I thought this episode was pretty good.

the scene with the cape is one of the most memorable scenes of the series imo.

One of S3's best episodes without a doubt. I loved everything about this one. It had a great start with FFF's 100 Years (yes I love that song), and kept going along great until the very end. Jordan was one of the more likeable FOTW's, you had the cape scene (probably my second favorite scene after the race at the end of Run), and the cliffhanger with Johnathan at the end. Fantastic episode.

For some reason I've never cared much about this episode. The cape scene was wonderful but that's about it for me.

This episode actually left me wondering when Clark was going to give Lana her necklace back, since she had it in that kid's first vision of her. He probably can't give it back without explaining how it went from green to clear, and you know that's going to open up another entirely "fun" can of worms.

Seeing Lana's husband sealed the fact that Lana and Pete were never going to get together although it was nice how they were jogging together in the beginning.

I dont mean for this to sound perverted but I wonder if/when Jordan touched him, did he see his death?

That would be freaky

I don't understand how Clark could be the only one to prevent other's deaths. Surely if Jordan had done something instead of standing there, he could've prevented Coach Altman's death.

My favorite part in this episode was when Clark touched Jordan in on the stairs and Jordan saw Clarks future. Like Clark's cape in space flying among the stars. That was awesome.

I never believed Lana would marry Pete in this version for some reason. She didn't in all versions. I thought his ability was pretty nifty and for once he wasn't a deranged FOTW going after everyone to kill them. The ending with Jonathan was great

I see the cape is the most popular and I also agree with that, another thing in this episode that was nice to see was the fact Clark does not have a end and it points out that fact more so in this episode to keep people thinking. I am not sure how the writers picked that scene but maybe it was the end of his first life (so to speak) when he goes into space to the sun to power up or whatever, good episode overall.

i'm just wondering. shouldn't jordan's vision have shown clark getting shot in Hidden? although i guess you can't expect writers to plan that far ahead into the future.

Jordan had mentioned in the episode that he and his dad had tried to prevent the deaths, but nothing they tried worked. I figured that only Clark could've prevented the deaths because he's an alien; something that fate didn't count on when taking people's lives.

one thing that bothered me was that clark did not seem too suprised when jordan told him he had no end, and that clark did not discuss this with his parents. i mean wouldn't you be suprised if someone told you, you would live forever?

Because Clark already sort of knew. Remember Cassandra from 'Hourglass' and teh endless field of graves? He knew he was going to outlive everyone and he speculated that he could be 'the last person on earth' so he had an inkling that he is (or could be) immortal. He'd already talked about it with Jon and Martha so no need to bring it up again.

But I loved the showing of the cape though the weird starlight effect or whatever was kinda cheesy.
Jordan was a very believable villian and Clark was great in this, though I do wish he had stopped the bullet from killing Jordan.
A pretty good episode.

whoops! I was typing my replies to this and 3 other episodes from Season 3 (including Ressurection) at the same time, I guess I either got confused or typed the wrong thing on the wrong page! My bad!

One Smallvilles best episodes and happens to be on my Sv epi top10 list. Good story the final destination thing worked well in the episode, Jordan Cross is one of very few FOTW's I really like. Of course the climps we get of Clark's future when hes Supe's flying & ripping through the clouds moving towards the sun still gives my chills down my spine.

What did I think of Hereafter?

1) The best part I liked about Hereafter is when Clark Kent super-speeds and moves Mr. Altman out of the way, just before he gets hit by a car. As usual, Clark Kent always comes in that "nick of time." Also, the other best part of Hereafter is when Clark puts Jordan Cross over his shoulders and runs out of the house, just in that "nick of time," before the house blows up. Then Clark Kent puts Jordan Cross on the floor and does CPR on him. Clark saves Jordan Cross's life.

2) Jordan: Except Mr. Altman survived. Because of you. How did you do it? I had a vision of you too when you grabbed me in the hallway.

Clark: What do you mean? What'd you see?

Jordan: Like you don't have an end like other people. It's like you live forever.

Clark: Come on, Jordan. You're wrong.

(Jordan Cross tells us a little about Clark Kent. He sees a red cape in his vision of Clark Kent. I liked this short quote of Jordan & Clark. It speaks about the future of Clark Kent, when Jordan says to Clark, "Like you don't have an end like other people. It's like you live forever." That was a nice quote).

3) I liked this scene with Jonathan speaking to Clark about Jordan Cross. Clark felt good speaking to his father about Jordan; he must have felt relieved, after speaking to Jonathan. They always have a nice heart-to-heart talk. That's what I like about the Kent family. No fighting, no jealousy, no bitterness or hatefulness. It's just love! This is one of John Schneider's best moments in Hereafter.

Jonathan: Clark? Clark, you've been looking for Jordan all over town. I think it's time you call it a night.

Clark: Dad, I was supposed to help him fit in. Instead, I take him to a crime scene, I put him on the sheriff's radar.

Jonathan: That is not your fault.

Clark: Well, he was a lot better off before he met me.

Jonathan: Clark, if he ran away, it's because he didn't feel like he had anybody at home to talk to.

Clark: His dad seemed like a good man.

Jonathan: I'm sure he is. And I'm also sure he feels like he's doing the best thing for Jordan. Look, when-- when your son has a gift, your first temptation is to hide him away, to shelter him from everything.

Clark: You didn't.

Jonathan: I sure as heck wanted to. Look, your mother convinced me that you needed to experience the whole world. Not just this farm. Ultimately she was right. So Jordan will come home. But not until he's good and ready. Okay?

4) (This is my last favorite scene. As we have the Jonathan & Clark moments of Smallville, we also have the Martha & Clark moments, also. And this is one of Annette O'Toole's best moments and best acts on Smallville. They have this nice talk, just before Jonathan Kent had a heart attack at the Smallville barn called Clark's "Fortress of Solitude." It's also one of Tom's best acts, too. At least, in my opinion. Even if Hereafter isn't one of Smallville fans' favorite episodes, it is one of my favorite episodes).

Martha: You're awfully quiet today.

Clark: Having someone tell you you can change destiny is a lot to handle.

Martha: Jordan's visions really struck a chord.

Martha goes to the cupboard and gets a plate.

Clark: Or just brought up questions I had all along. Mom, by helping Mr. Altman, I put three other lives in jeopardy.

Martha: But you were there for them.

Clark: If it wasn't for me, he would've never had the chance to hurt anyone.

Martha: Clark, what's this really about?

Clark: I'm just wondering if that's why I was really sent here. To change destiny. What if I make a wrong choice and I'm not there to make it right?

Martha: It's a huge responsibility. You have to concentrate on the good that you do. Think of all the people you've saved. Your dad and me and Lex. He's turned out to be a really good friend. Sweetheart, you just have to do the best you can. You can't save everybody. Well, I'm gonna take some of these out to your dad.

Clark: I'll do it.

Martha: Well, could you please make sure that at least a couple of them make it to the barn?

Clark: Yes.

Martha: Thank you.

Clark: Thanks, Mom.

Did anybody notice Lex's slip up? or was it done on purpose?

"Music hath charm to soothe the savage breast"

err... shouldn't that be BEAST? Trust me... I just rewound it and played it over and over... he said "breast".

EDIT: should've googled before posting. I've never heard it said this way before but I guess it's legit. The phrase was coined by William Congreve, in The mourning bride, 1697.

Now if only I remembered this episode when Lana faked the car explosion thing... this kind of gave away that she isn't supposed to die until she's old. Or what would be terrible (saying that only Clark can change destiny) would be that if she does die before she's old... it would have to be Clark's fault somehow!

A very good episode. The scene with the cape was fantastic :D The last scene where Clark finds Jonathan in the barn lying on the ground & yells " Mom" three times is disturbing- but amazing if that makes sense.... :)

Clark hadn't met DD yet.
So his future probably changes when he does.

I LOVE JORDEN CROSS!!! <3333

I loveeee this episode.
I cried when I first watched it.

I loved that for once our FoTW wasn't trying to kill anyone, he was trying to save them.

----- Added 3 Minutes later -----

you seem to have the wrong episode, jordan was in resurrection :)

And you're worng.
That other dood was totally right.
I just felt like saying that even though you probably don't even come here any more....

I really don't get the post above this, but whatever...
This episode was great and when I saw Jonathan lying on the floor and Clark dropping those cakes, my heart started pounding like mad. Great ending.
Also, there is this scene with a cape. Although the effects are quite crappy, it was 2004. so I guess it can be forgiven :P Unrelated to this episode, I applause the effects on Clark's heat vision, which is simply amazing.

I love this episode. I loved the beginning and just the whole storyline. Imagine how horrible it has to be to see every person you touch dies O_o Good acting and music and one hell of a shocking end. Although I knew Jon wouldn't die then my heart still started beating a little extra. Clark seeing his father on the floor, dropping the poor cookies, the soundtrack, screaming for mom... Clark's so human there. He could just rush Jon to the hospital, but instead he's like in a shocked state and screams for mum instead.

looks like Jordan was the original Dr. Fate. I didn't remember that that image of the cape flowing in the wind had been used before the Absolute Justice special. So it was cool to see. I just finished rewatching this episode and it really was like seeing it for the first time. Didn't remember much about it.

I loved that moment, too -- I think it was the first time we'd had any true cape references! Plus, Jordan Cross was one of my favorite guest characters. His friendship with Clark, and the way they inspired each other, was very cool.

This is a really good episode. Definitely one of my favorite S3 eps.

100 years was a great song to use for the opening
The cape scene is fantastic. Especially the first time that you see it.
Jordan is a likeable FOTW. I liked the relationship between Clark and him.
Liked how Clark/Jordan discussed Clark's immortality "It's like you don't have an end"
The fire made for pretty good suspense, and Clark saving Jordan from the explosion made for a good scene
