Clark's vision is impaired while trying to stop a jewelry store robbery, and the lack of sight causes his super-hearing to surface. Meanwhile, Lionel suspects Chloe is feeding information to Lex, and cuts her off...

VERY underrated episode. Amazing IMO, and a lot like the Daredevil movie with the superhearing. Also the first time we see Clark wear glasses!

Oh i just rememberd a line when Martha and Jonathan are talking and Martha says that Jonathan hanfcuffed the doctor I spit out the soda I was drinking, that was a funny image in my head.

And great foreshadowing of Jonatha's heart problems with Martha saying that he was tired and calling him and Clark 'Supermen'

Annette owned that scene. But she usually owns any scene she is in.

This is one of those episodes that I never rewatch and have only a vague memory of. I really don't think it did a very good job of handling the fallout of the Shattered/Asylum arc.

Clark did look cute with glasses, though.

"X-Ray" and "Heat" developed the new powers a lot better. This episode makes it seem like Clark didn't have any trouble adjusting to his super hearing.

I am just now watching the third season b/c i finally got a hold of it. i was watching this episode yesterday and oh my good gosh. when i first saw clark in those glasses, i just about died. he was sooooooooo sooooooo hot and sexy. every time i think i have seen the hottest episode, they prove me wrong and get a hotter one!

MJ FACT: I am a sucker for guys in glasses. Glasses are soooo soo very sexy.

hehe, sorry, nothing really productive to say about this episode though.

Clark was the cutest blind man i've ever seen during that episode :D :D

Clark's dark glasses took a lot away from this episode. Tom Welling's a man that uses his eyes to display emotion so we didn't get what he was feeling when he was blind.

I thought that Tom was terrific in this one and that the ray bans actually helped him convery his acting better. And, of course, he looked wicked hot in the regular glasses. (I have such a thing for geeky guys!)

omigosh, me too. I love geeky guys, as explains part of my love for Peter Parker and Clark Kent.

Does anyone else think that the writers missed a perfect opportunity to keep the glasses on Clark Kent for his complete disguise?

This is such a freaking sweet episode. Definently in my top 10. I just loved everything about this episode. How he gains his new power. How him and Lana reconcile. How he overhears Chloe and Lionel. How he saves Pete. But i think it has the greatest ending. I just watched the ending over and over...it was really good :P.

this is the worst power gaining episode but i think it is still good. i like the part on the gag reel with that guy with the giant mouth.

I love this episode...it's definitely one of my top ten. I thought Tom Welling did a very good job...even though it is true that he's very good at portraying emotion with his eyes.

And the regular glasses were incredibly hot. :)

What did I think of Whisper:

There are 4 things I liked about it:

1) I like the fact that Clark gets a new super-powered ability (just like he has super-strength, super-speed, x-ray vision, heat-vision, now he has super-hearing; and later, he develops super-breath). Super-hearing was the last Clark Kent super-ability he had in a long time. First Season of Smallville, he gets X-ray vision in X-Ray. Second Season of Smallville, he gets heat-vision from the episode, Heat; Third Season he gets super-hearing in Whisper; and Sixth Season of Smallville, he gets super-breath from the episode, Sneeze.

2) The Clark & Chloe scene

Tom Welling did a great job getting mad at Allyson (Chloe). Allyson did an excellent job acting out this part, especially when Clark Kent makes poor Chloe cry. Great acting from both Tom and Allyson! You should be proud of yourselves.

Chloe asks Clark if he's seen Pete, and she told Clark that she & Pete were going to meet and double-team on Chloe's Daily Planet column.

Clark answers her very quickly, "The column Lionel Luthor help you land?"

Chloe asks Clark, "What is that supposed to mean?"

Clark answers Chloe, "I may have lost my sight, but things are becoming much clearer now. Exactly how long have you and Lionel been looking into my life?"

Chloe answers Clark, "Since last spring. The day after Lex's wedding."

Clark answers Chloe, "When you saw me and Lana together. Is that why you did this? Your silence is deafening. What did you give him?"

Chloe answers defensively, "Nothing. Nothing he didn't already know."

Clark says angrily, "Well, then what is he sharing with you?"

Chloe: "Nothing. Believe it or not, Clark, I was just -- trying to help you."

Clark: "Oh, by spying on me."

Chloe: "No, by just trying to understand why he's so intrigued with you."

Clark: "And if the torch got a few new computers and you made a name for yourself at the Daily Planet, that was okay too. For all the times you accused me of keeping secrets, how could you do this to me?!"

Chloe (her eyes start to water): "He just caught me at an especially bad time. And I caved. I've been trying to get out of it ever since, but when people like Lionel Luthor have you, they don't want to let go. You know, I thought that you of all people would understand making a stupid decision in a moment of weakness. But I guess I was wrong."

3) Pete and Clark's sense of humor. These short lines were great. Tom Welling and Sam Jones work very well together on Smallville, even their sense of humor was fantastic!

Pete (to Clark): "So your mega-hearing thing's back."

Clark (to Pete): "Suddenly I'm the ultimate eavesdropper."

4) The Clark & Lex scene (Clex):

(Michael and Tom, too, work very well together on Smallville. This was an excellent scene and good acting. Clark gets mad at Lex and comes to Chloe's defense, because poor Chloe's Dad got fired).

Lex: "Clark, I heard about your miraculous recovery."

Clark: "I just found out you fired Chloe's father today."

Lex: "Yeah, apparently his performance was seriously lacking."

Clark: "Chloe's dad has worked for the company for years. This could ruin her family."

Lex: "Clark, my father suspects Mr. Sullivan was the one spreading malicious rumors about me. I assumed Chloe overheard the gossip and passed it along to you."

Clark (angrily): "No, this isn't right."

Lex: "It's not about being right. It's about positioning. My father won a battle today."

Clark: "And Chloe's father is a casualty."

Lex: "True. But the war's just starting, and I have the greatest advantage. He thinks I'm weak. Frankly, Clark, I thought you'd be relieved."

Clark: "Why would you think that?"

Lex: "Because at least this way, I was able to keep you out of it."

My favorite parts were when Clark got his new glasses and was shy about coming out into the town, so adorable. And the end, when his new superhearing allowed him to hear Lana crying as she drove away.So sad. TW can convey so much emotion with just a tilt of his head or an expression on his face. Great actor. I just love watching him.

So Chloe thinks she did nothing wrong by spying on Clark and feeding Lionel information. According to their conversation, it appears as though Chloe genuinely believes she is innocent. She knows how evil Lionel Luthor is, but she feeds him info anyway, and thinks she has done nothing wrong.

Please tell me I am misunderstanding this...

I really think the glasses that Clark use in this episode looks a lot better then the one they introduced us to now in season 9, somehow these are more subtle :)

just rewatched this episode yesterday. I thought Tom welling did an excellent job portraying a blind person. I've known a few and his acting was spot on. I agree that it's not my favorite new ability episode, but tom's acting made up for it. :)

If they had only had Clark remain in glasses after this episode. It would have solved all the problems in regard to his dual identity down the road. Plus, it would have taken suspicion off Clark in terms of him being more than normal since he would only have a "partial" recovery from being blind. It would have been the PERFECT reason to have him start wearing glasses, and then the first time Clark and Lois meet, it is in glasses and the rest is history. They really dropped the ball there IMO.

I personally don't see Kal-El wearing glasses. lol

That being said I do think him wearing glases would have made alot of sense, but my guess is the WB didn't find it "sexy" enough

Well they obviously would have had to do the Covenant/Crusade differently if he had kept the glasses... :D

This was the first episode where I really hated Chloe. She never even apologized for the horrible things she did. I see a connection between the Chloe in this episode and S9 Chloe.
And he11 to the yeah! Clark looked great in his glasses. Really wish they would do a Dean Cain and get normal fashionable glasses.

I just watched this episode again and I have to say that it wasn't as strong as Asylum and Shattered but it still kept the story arch with Lex going which is something I really am happy to see.

I was also starting to wonder if Clark ever gets impaired again after this

I am re-watching this episode and have to say there are no shortage of "jerk" moments.

First, Clark was a real jerk to Lana at the high school when she was simply offering to help him.

Second, Chloe was a real jerk when confronted by Clark about her spying for Lionel. "I was trying to help you." Is she kidding me?

Third, Jonathan was a jerk to Martha when she was completing paperwork to get Clark a tutor. I'm glad she got angry and voiced her opinion. She should have done that more often during the early seasons.

And finally, the eyeglasses should have stayed. :p

Lana was a jerk in the truck when Clark apologized and she pulled away when he reached out to her.
