Meteor dust is making Martha and Clark sick. Will they be saved in time? Plus, Dr. Bryce learns something interesting in Clark's bloodwork, and Martha has a surprise.

I really liked this episode. I absolutely loved how Jonathan went to all meassur's to make sure his wife and son were going to be ok. Just dang if Clark hadnt destroyed that ship I cant help but think Jonathan wouldnt of died. But alas thats not what the writters had planned out *sigh*

i like this episode a lot too. it is another one my favorite episodes of season 2. and when Jonathan sneaks to the poison contol center or whatever that place is and looks for the octagon key is cool and suspenseful when the guards are after him and Clark. i liked how they pull over the truck and Pete comes out and goes "something wrong officer?" so cool. Pete rocks!

Poor Chloe...!! She reads her whole letter to Clark ( not to mention it's a love letter) and his response is "lana??"

I liked how happy Clark was at the end of this episode. His face positively glows when he's at the party at the Talon. You don't often see him like that.

Whenever I go back and watch this episode when there is that 5 minute scene where Jonathan is running around the parking lot of that government building I start singing (or whatever) that mission impossible theme.....

I go...

Deer deer deer...deee deer neeer neeer deer de nerr de de dee de neer dedeneer dedeneer deer deer der deneer neer neer dedaneer dedaneeer de de de deneer....etc....etc....

I drive anyone around me insane but dang that scene is so long.

Chloe's letter scene is one of the best scenes I've seen on Smallville. AM is definitely good at delivering monologues. One of her best scenes I think.

this may sound heartless, but i didn't feel bad for chloe. I don't like her, she really gets on my nerves. She pines for clark, and yet always makes it sound like it his fault they aren't dating. Like, she tells everyone that clark dumped her after spring formal, but she dumped the "friends card" on him, and he just wanted to make sure he didn't lose her as a friend. And, she is always (atleast in the 2nd/3rd season) telling lana and clark it's ok to go out after they ask if it's okay with her, then she goes and cries about it. if it's not alright, freaking say so. When it comes to clark, she is so dumb. And then sometimes, she is dumb all by herself.

ah, that felt nice to get all my chloe ranting off my chest.

Well to each their own.

There are some characters on this show I don't ever feel bad for, cause they just don't move me at all. So I completely understand.

For me though, Chloe's not one of them. I really enjoyed that scene. Very raw and emotional....and realistic in Clark's response.

Well I don't feel bad when anything happens to Clark anymore.

Chloe does not deserve that anyone else would have stopped speaking to Clark but stays a good friend. I would love for a girl like Chloe to have a crush on me.

Just rewatched this one. I noticed that Chloe's love letter said "I'll let you go for now and hope you fly back to me someday." (emphasis mine)

Fly??? Was that an S2 foreshadowing of the end of Smallville?

Loved this episode! Chlark was great. I loved it when Chloe poured her heart out to Clark and then he called for Lana. I felt so bad for Chloe. Clark couldn't help it though, Lana was the last person he saw, and thats what he has always wanted Lana to say to him. Helen and Clark's blood! That was intresting! I liked when Jonathan was about to get caught by the guard and Clark came up behind him and hit the guard over the head. That was great. :D

Chloe prevents her passion for Clark from being exposed to much in order to protect Clark from a dilemma between Lana and her. Clark is believed to be in deep love with Lana, which disables many other girl's crush to have many effects on him including Chloe. Therefore, she can do nothing but help Clark while weeping alone. Sometimes she can be a little irrational. Who is not sometimes?

It was a pretty good episode. I felt bad for Chloe. It was good to see Jonathan be the hero for a change instead of just Clark, although Clark did stop the guard from taking Jonathan into custody, it was still mostly Jonathan. Jonathan was willing to do whatever it took to ensure the safety of his family. He was indeed a wonderful husband and father.

Chloe's letter was a real tear jerker.

If TPTB have no intention of letting Clark & Chloe be a couple in S6 or S7 once his Lana infatuation has run its course (not that he won't always care fore her and want to get her back form the dark side:) ), then TPTB should have NEVER written this scene if it would never pay off.

Are they that stupid?

I agree. It was so sweet and i was quite suprised that she had writen one and actually read it out to him. But i couldnt help but feel sorry for Chloe when Clark instinctively said Lana's name. Man this was an awsome episode. I loved everything about it. The performances from Schneider was the best in the episode and i felt that it started paving the way for Clana. I watch Smallville not for just all the special effects and powers, but for the love dilemma Clark is in. Seasons 1&2 have been excellent in the Chloe, Clark and Lana department.

The letter:

I want to let you in on a secret.
I'm not who you think I am.
In fact, my disguise is so thin I'm surprised you haven't seen right through me.
I'm the girl of your dreams masquerading as your best friend.

Sometimes I want to rip off the façade like I did at the spring formal.
But I can't.
Because you'll get scared and you'll run away again.
So I decided that it's better to live with the lie than expose my true feelings.

My dad said there are two types of girls -- the ones you grow out of and the ones you grow into.
I really hope I'm the latter. I may not be the one you love today, but I'll let you go for now, hoping one day you'll fly back to me.
Because I think you're worth the wait.

I recently re-watched "Fever" and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I usually think of this as a Chlark episode because the "Fever" letter is so well known and well loved but in actuality this is a Kent Family episode. This is one of the best Kent Family episodes I've ever seen! I'd forgotten.

I pretty much agree with this post. Clark was sick, Martha was ill and Jonathan was left to trust in Kryptonian technology to save his family. Oh it was such a well crafted episode with a nice build. I liked seeing Jonathan on a mission to save his family. I like how Pete was like a family member during this episode helping Clark hide the ship and helping Jonathan escape with the key.

I can understand Lana's reluctance to see Clark sick. It's because of her abandonment issues.

I adore how fierce Helen Bryce is, and her anger flares up when Jonathan didn't want her to take Clark to the hospital. LOL! Anger management issues. I wish Helen had returned to crash Lex and Lana's wedding in "Promise."

Helen: I object. This man is already married. *claps hands*

OR

Helen: I object.
Someone: And who are you?
Helen: Mrs. Alexander Luthor.

LOL!

I couldn't stand when she said that...but it wasn't her lowest point of the episode. that would be when, after finding chloe's letter in the trash can, and not saying "that's none of my business", she turns chloe's pain at the party into an opportunity to make herself look better. she would have to know that since the letter is balled up, clark never got it. i thought that was totally inappropriate for the girl that didn't even go visit. i wanted to smack her. and i don't fault clark for saying 'lana', he was k-sick. and then at the party he was trying to talk to her about it until self-centered lana forced the world to revolve around her again.(though i do fault him for being/playing dumb about when chloe gets upset. whenever its convenient for clark, he acts like he has no idea why she's upset. he's been doing it for years.)

I think Lana had no way of knowing that Chloe didn't give Clark that letter. She probably thought that it was a draft of a letter Chloe gave to Clark. So she was inspired to make a feeble attempt to tell Clark how she felt. And that's why she tells Clark that she's not as good with words as some people and looked toward Chloe.

Chloe's letter was heartfelt and beautiful. I felt so happy and hopeful when she read it. When Clark said Lana I felt for her and my eyes filled with tears. Then at the end when Chloe shut Clark down I got mad. Why is she holding something he said in his sleep against him?! She should have given him the letter then! GAH!

I love Clark's smile when he tells her that it's sweet that she visited him. I hate his confused face when Chloe says she's runnning off to put her name in the raffle, though her line is funny.

"What could be more poetically just than me winning a computer?"

Oh I don't know. You giving Clark the fever letter and snogging him?

Then I got to thinking about the Spring Formal. Clark said that he left the dance to save Lana because she was in trouble. But then Chloe sees Lana afterward and she's just fine. Chloe thinks he lied. OUCH. So I forgave Chloe for shutting Clark down in "Heat" and "Fever." Also, it leaves me free to enjoy "Rush" a lot more when the same thing happens to Lana.

I really like the deleted scene from this episode too. Clark and Lex chat about Helen. The conversation inspires Lex to take a chance and ask Helen to move in with him.

I miss Lex/Helen.

Anyway it was a great Kent Family episode. I love the things Martha and Jonathan say behind Clark's back. Even with a new baby on the way, Martha doesn't want Clark to leave them. <3

Someone... I don't remember where, suggested that Jor-el healed Martha. That way she could have a baby so it wouldn't hurt so much when Clark left to fulfill his destiny. I like that interpretation.

I also like to think that everyone in the hospital was healed by the spaceship that night. That people even woke up in the morgue. The miracle at Smallville Medical. :D

I agree with so much of what you said here, ginnyfan. I loved practically everything about this episode. What's not to love? It had some great character moments for practically everyone, but yes, especially for the Kent family. The tender, heartfelt scenes between Jonathan and Martha were so sweet, and very nicely juxtaposed against one of my all-time favorite Smallville scenes (the Chlark letter). How dare he say "Lana" after she spills her heart out like that?! LOL. The last scene at the Talon was very nicely done, too. And yes, I LOVE Dr. Helen Bryce. I really wish she could've stuck around longer, or at least made a cameo reappearance.

This episode was so great and intense.

First of all: the letter.

The night before , Clark talks with Lana. A few minutes later, he collapses on the ground. The next day, Chloe comes by to visit and she reads him a letter with her feelings while he is sleeping. Suddenly, when she's done reading, Clark moves his head, while Chloe says his name. And guess what he says. 'Lana'. There's a tear falling down Chloe's cheek, she stands up, puts her letter away and leaves the Kent Farm.
Oh my god! This was just soooo bad! Chloe's exposing her feelings to Clark and all he says and cares about is Lana, even when he's sick, almost dying!
And I felt so bad for Chloe. She comes to Clark's house, hoping that she would get a good response but it turned out the other way.
I found Allison Mack's acting in this scene outstanding, she brought it really good over and it looked like that she was feeling what her character felt.

Second: The 'Healing' Scene

Jonathan and Clark are stealing the octagonal disk from the DCA. They have been followed by the police and DCA, and later, it turns out that it was just Pete, sitting in the truck. Jonathan and Clark arrive at the hospital, undoing the sheets from the ship and they put the disk in it. Suddenly, there's a very bright light coming from the ship, shining trough the whole hospital, healing Martha, who's been decleared dead.

First of all, I just can't understand how Clark and Jonathan haven't been noticed by other people seeing that they actually have a real space ship in their truck. But that's just me, thinking that's impossible, I guess :P. The 'healing proces' was well done, but quick. Everybody at the hospital was healed or cured, referring it as a 'miracle'. I found it actually a bit funny when the DCA thought they had chased Clark and Jonathan, but then it turns out it's just good old Pete lol :p

And the third one: Ending scene

At the Talon there's a band playing a nice song. Everybody dancing, while Pete is 'DJ-ing'. Clark comes to thank Pete for what he has done earlier and then, Chloe shows up and she and Clark shares a conversation. Not long after that, she leaves him to buy a ticket. Suddenly, Lana is here and she also talks with Clark, when he notices Chloe is acting a bit 'weird'. Lana tells him that his sickness really affected them both. She also refers that some people are better with words than others, while she looks at Chloe, with tears in her eyes.

I found that this scene was really intense. Actually, it was the song that made it intense. Although for me. :)

Okay, and now I'm done blabbing here, but I just wanted to tell that this episode was great!

After watching seasons 1-5 about 3 times i've constantly thought that chloe sullivan was an annoying character. I thought that she was always getting in the way of Clark and Lana and that she just needed to move on. For some reason, my 4th time watching this episode I felt incredibly bad for her. Clark was kinda a jerk by saying "Lana" after Chloe's heartwarming speech. After seeing the episode i became a huge "Chlark" fan although i still love "Clois".

In this episode I also loved the role Jonathan Kent plays by being the hero

I agree. This was a good scene. I felt bad for Chloe. She took a risk and put it all out there, but sadly, you can't make someone fall in love with you. Clark's folly was he sometimes seemed more comfortable loving Lana from afar than letting her into his life. But then, having made his decision, he'd mope around with cow eyes like it was her fault he wasn't happy. At these times, I wanted someone to put me out of my misery.
