What is Clark's connection to the death of Lana's Aunt Louise back in 1961? How are Jor-El and Mayor Tate connected? A story spans two eras as a mystery is solved.

I liked this episode. I tohught it was cool that Jor El and Hiram Kent met and that might of had something to do with why Clark ended up finding his way to Jonathan and Martha.

i loved the whole idea that Jor-el was actually on Earth in 1961. and that he fell in love with Louise because it showed that he had some human traits. this is one of my favorites of season 3!

I liked this episode because of the Clana!! Yay for Clana.

I can't stand Clana but I enjoyed this episode for the mythology aspect of it. Seeing Jor-El back on earth in 1961 was very cool and I also like the tie in with the Luthors. Strange though that Lana has all of these dead relations/ancestors who resemble her exactly.:p

This episode shows that Clark was destined to be found by the Kents.

I think this is one of my favorites of the series. It wasnt really important when it comes to the over all story of the season or the story but its such a fascinating episode. Very well written.

Question: why didn't Jor-El just superspeed to the caves after Louise's murder instead of getting help from Hiram Kent?

I think it does have an impact on the rest of the season/series.

It gives us background on Jor-el and a reason for his distain for humans.

The idea of having Jor-El walk the streets of Smallville was interesting, but ultimately, it just feels like Clark and Lana played dress up and made out a few times. Jor-El mentions having a destiny that he can't change, but the show has yet to delve into what that destiny was. We also fail to see Clark's curiosity about his biological father extend beyond the second act of this episode.

It was fun, however, to see Lionel squirm when Lex brought up the tenemant fire near the end of the episode. It was funny to see him react with faux anger when Lex tells him his parents were murdered.

I didnt like it at first as I generally don't go for flash back episodes, but eventually it grew on me. I loved seeing Jorel as well and how the Kents didnt accidentally find Clark.

I loved seeing tom welling in the 1960's clothing. very nice. I just loved the whole 1960's era in this episode, because the 1950's-(early) 1960's is one of my favorite eras. i love the clothing style and sweetness of it!

I thought it was cute when in one of the flash backs the song "earth angel" was playing. so sweet! this whole episode just made me so happy!

My favorite episode of this season,
even though I'm so anti clana.

I agree,
Lana had beauutiful clothes,
1950s is totally my favorite era.

I agree with "dressing up and making out,"
And the lack of chemistry between Louise and Jor-el kind of bugged me, (they met for one day and suddenly decided they were in love.. sounds like the romeo and juliet kind of love, which is kind of lame.)
But I love how it was filmed,
the lighting and 50s music was great.

And the side story with Lex's past,
It just seemed so much like the three's (clark, lana, lex) lives were all destinies intertwined getting ready to be lived out.

Haha, yeah, Lana has many ancestors that greatly resemble her.

I actually didn't like this episode much at all.
First it felt so contrived to work Jor-El visiting Earth into Superman lore. Second, it felt like they were trying to hard to parallel Clana with his father. Third, I could tell that Tate was the killer from about five seconds after he was introduced. (Go back and watch his expression in that first flashback scene. so obvious!)
And finally, while the story has been changed in Superman lore many times I have always felt that Jor-El only loved one woman in his life and that was Lara. This almost felt like an insult to Lara's memory (in fact, at first I was screaming 'you cheating bastard' at my TV until I realized Jor-El was there pre-marriage).
So no, I didn't like this eppy at all.
Except for the flashbacks at the Kent farm. Those were cool (Gene Autry?! )

I LOVED IT SO ******* MUCH!

By far the best/second best episode in history of smallville.

I loved that Jor-El visited Earth and the Kents connection.

I still get a kinda rush when i hear the last sentence said by clark:

- I dont think i was sent here by accident.

EXPLAINED EVERYTHING. And Jor-El seeing Jonathan Kent before he was born, kinda shocked me. (In a good way) The kinda made the relationsship between Jor-el and Jonathan so much more special.

God, i love it! :)

BTW: There was someone asking about why he hid at Hiram Kent instead of goind straight to the cave, its becouse Hiram Kent first threatened him and Jor-El overmanned him and took the gun nut didnt shoot. Then he saw some understanding by Hiram Kent and he wanted to stay there for a while since he liked the company. Wich lead to Clark being sent there becouse he assumed that the son of Hiram would be as nice. And so it happened and he was right.

Let me round it up in one sentence:

AWESOME EPISODE. MOST UNDERRATED EPISODE IN THE HISTORY OF TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, that was two sentences, whatever.

"Where I'm from we have colors you've never seen. Our sunsets last for hours, and our moons are so close together they fill up half the sky."

This line, that scene, and the music in the scene make this one of the most underrated SV episodes ever. I loved it.

Jor-El was waiting to be picked up to go back to his planet, he didn't arrive in his own ship. He was attempting to stay out of everyone's way since he was a wanted man. He then ended up at the Kents.

One of the quotes from the show gives the clue:

Hiram: "You sure these friends of yours will show up?"
Jor-EL: "Yeah, they'll be here."

I don't buy the whole "you're chosen" thing. How would Jor-El and Lara would still be so sure that Jonathan and Martha would be the ones to find Clark in those fields? What of Lionel was to be the one to find him instead?

I still think it's simply because Clark's lucky to have found them. Like Jonathan and Clark themselves had assured each other in the Pilot.

What did I think of Relic? There are a 5 things I loved about Relic.

1) Relic was one of the best episodes of the 3rd Season of Smallville. I thought these Lana Lang lines were funny, when Lana said to Clark Kent, "Clark, that drawing looks exactly like you. So unless Dexter could have predicted the future, there's a pretty good chance that the drifter was real. It could've been your grandfather. Even your father."

Clark says in disbelief, "That's impossible."

Lana Lang replies, "Why? You must've come from somewhere. It's not like you just fell out of the sky." (Clark Kent looks sad and insulted, since he really did "fall out of the sky").

2) The second scene that I loved about Relic was the Joe and Louise scene where Joe lifts up Louise, and they're floating in the sky. I loved that scene. It was one of the best Smallville Special Effects of Relic.

I liked how Joe tells Louise, "When I said I wasn't from here, I wasn't talking about Smallville. Where I'm from we have colors that you've never seen. Our moons are so close they fill up half the sky. We have sunsets that last for hours."

Louise just laughs and says to Joe, "You almost had me there. For a second I was actually believing you." (Then Joe lifts Louise into his arms and they are floating up in the air. Louise looks down at the ground and smiles and says to Joe, "Oh, my God").

3) The third scene that I like is Clark putting on an old bomber jacket and super-speeds into Sheriff Tate's house. With his heat-vision, he lights up the fire place in Sheriff Tate's house. I loved the special effects in this scene. Clark's super-speed, his heat-vision in lighting up the fire place, and his bullet-proof special effects, as Sheriff Tate is shooting at Clark. Clark shows off his super-speed in front of sheriff Tate, making Sheriff Tate believe he was the drifter named Joe.

Clark Kent's memorable quotes to Sheriff Tate are: "I think you got me confused with someone else." (Clark Kent shows off his Kryptonite medallion around Clark's neck). Then he says to Sheriff Tate, "You can't kill me. I'm already dead." And Sheriff tate exclaims, "Mother of God!"

4) The fourth scene that I like about Relic are the Clark and Lana scene at the barn loft. Lana Lang tells Clark Kent, "I am not quite sure why, but I think Dexter has you to thank for his freedom." Clark tells Lana, "You're the one who believed in him." Lana tells Clark, "Dexter was wrong about the drifter."

Clark says to Lana, "I'm not sure he was. Nothing would've happened to Louise if she didn't fall in love with him."

Lana: "I know what Louise did was wrong, but I can't help thinking she was lucky. Even if it was only for a few days, she knew what it felt like to really be in love."

Clark (looking at Lana): "It's too bad it couldn't last."

Lana: "What if that's not the point. Maybe you have to be grateful for the time that you spend together and stop holding onto what could've been."

5) The fifth and best Relic scene are the Jonathan and Clark scene at the Kawatche Caves.

Jonathan looks at Clark and says, "Clark. What did you see?"

Clark answers, "Jor-El buried this here because he didn't want his father to have it. It acts as some sort of journal. I think Jor-El was sent here as some kind of rite of passage. Grandpa Kent was down here too. He told Joe that if there was anything he needed..."

Jonathan looks at Clark and says, "What is it, Clark?"

Clark answers Jonathan, "I don't think you and Mom found me by accident." Clark Kent turns around and looks at his father as he is saying, "I think you were chosen."

Who is Jor-El father, Kal-El's grandfather they really didn't explain that one
first off, i was wondering who else knew that the days in 1961 we saw spanned from June 15-17 1961.

and to answer your question, Jor-El's father is Seyg-El, sometimes also called Jor-El Sr. or Jor-El I, Clark's Dad being Jor-El II. Usually Seyg-el though.

I liked several of the flashbacks to 1961, my favorite being the one where Jor-El picks up Louise and starts flying. But, at the same time I've got some problems with it.

1. Tom Welling's acting as Jor-El. We've already heard his voice (Terrence Stamp and his English accent), while the young Jor-El spoke with Clark's voice and an American accent.

2. The romance between Jor-El and Louise. They only knew each other for a day and then started making out (possibly more), sure seems a little fast.

3. The fact that it's revealed that the Kents were chosen by Jor-El, instead of being a random landing on Earth. It takes the international feeling away from Clark. In most other versions, baby Kal-El was just sent to Earth, without any nation in mind. He landed in kansas by accident, while he also could have landed in Russia or some other country.

4. For someone that has actually seen Jor-El's memories, Clark sure seems quick to judge him and accuses him of everything.

5. When Clark and Lana goes to sheriff Adams, they sure seem to lack any knowledge that you need two things to get someone arrested; Motive and evidence (which they didn't have). They just showed up with a few speculations and seemed to think that was enough.

6. Could Pete and Clark have spoken any louder, when they walked in the middle of a crowded street?

KK and TW did a good job in this episode, but give me a break! Jor-el falls for that adulteress Louise? Thank God he went back to Krypton and met Lara. Lara had more class in her little finger than Louise had in her whole body.

again, we need terrence to come on the show and do an appearnce as Jor-El in the fortress and on krypton! it would be nice if clark could see what his real father looked like in his later years and meet him in the fortress as an energy replicant created by the fortress.

I totally loved this episode. The flashbacks, the fact that Jor-El really was on earth,.. .
Tom and Kristin did a great job on playing Joe/Jor-El and Louise. They totally rocked this episode!. It was also awesome to see Clark 'changing' into Jor-El with the bomberjack on, same hair etc. to convince mayor Tate to tell the truth.

I personally think that the most greatest scene in this episode was that Clark and Jonathan were in the caves for the first time. Clark touching the keything in the wall and then suddenly you see the camera zooming in on Tom with the yellow lights and then the flashbacks, the medallion in Clark's hands and Jonathan asking what's going on. For me, that was totally awesome.

Very good episode :D!

Well in this show Lana is the love of Clark's life. And I thought it was interesting that Clana mirrored Jor-El's and Louise's tragic love story. Both couples loved each other but destiny prevented them from being together.

My take on this episode is it was the producers way of saying "hey look we are going to get Tom and Kristin to do and say everything you want to see Clark and Lana do but they can't because of the current storylines of them being on again/off again, so enjoy it while you can."

I personally can't stand this episode because I felt they ruined a great opportunity to explore Jor-El(and Clark's) past. It could have been one of the best 10 episodes ever if they went that direction, instead they just made it nothing more then a "Clana" shipperfest. The episode would have felt more realistic if they actually got different actors to play Jor-El and Louise, but that wasn't the point of this episode.

So what? It's also why they have characters be under the influence whether it's witchcraft or Red K infected lipstick. So it'll allow characters that can't be together yet, kiss or have a love scene, etc. That's why you got a Clois kiss in Crimson. I'm assuming you didn't have any complaints about that.

That said, KK and TW did a great job as Joe and Louise. Great chemistry and really hot barn scene. One of the hottest scenes ever, in my opinion.

It wasn't all shipper stuff, we found out that Clana was linked to the past through Jor-El and Louise. And that it wasn't an accident that the Kents found Clark in the field. Jor-El planned it that way. And it was also revealed that the Luthors weren't decended from Scottish royalty but from small time crook.

Awesome ep imo.

we found out that Clana was linked to the past through Jor-El and Louise.

Shipper stuff, as I said it was nothing but "hey look Tom and Kristin doing what you want to see Clana do", I couldn't honestly believe it was actually "Jor-El" and "Louise" maybe if they presented it with different actors I might have bought it.

And that it wasn't an accident that the Kents found Clark in the field. Jor-El planned it that way.

So 42 minutes to find out this one piece of info that actually related to Jor-El and Clark's destiny. The episode would have been way more entertaining if it actually focused on Jor El and his time on earth getting an idea what and who he was about instead of making some stupid love story that seemed contrieved.

Re saw this episode today, and it had a something I hated, right, so Lana finds out her ancestor is guilty, and wants to shift the blame to Clarks father/grandfather and Clark isn't the least bit upset by that? I know Jor-el's annoying at this point in time, but you would of thought Clark wouldn't want his family name disgraced at the very least.

I honestly don't remember it going that way(I thought the police chief was at fault) but this episode had alot to hate.

1. Jor-El is an adulterer

2. Lana's Great Aunt is a not so nice word

3. The old guy forgiving Lana's Great Aunt for cheating on him in such an easy fashion like what she did was alright and he gave his stamp of approval for her doing it(I don't care how bad a relationship is that doesn't give the other partner a reason to cheat)

4. While it not impossible, it would be very unlikely that Lana's great aunt is part asian, especially in a small town like Smallville, KS in the early 60s(just saying). As I pointed out above getting different actors to play Jor-El and Lousie(well at least Louise) would make it more believable, but that really wasn't the point of this episode.
