Ryan (from "Stray", Ryan Kelley) returns in an episode where Clark must rescue him from a facility where he is being mistreated. Plus, Ryan has a secret - he's dying.
Ryan Kelley from the first season episode "Stray" becomes the first "freak of the week" to make a return appearance.

This episode really pulled on the heartstrings. It was powerful and by gollie I shed a few tears at the end. But of course by the next episode everything wa back to 'Ryan? Ryan who? I dont know no Ryan? Was he important to me? like a kid I loved like a little brother? Because I havent seen a kid like that in this episode. Oh well....oh look muffins!'

It was right after Chloe mentions Summerholt to Clark. He asks "Isn't that the place they kept Ryan in?"

i recently watched this episode again and I had forgotten how good this episode is. It is a very sad episode. I like it better than Stray though. and I really liked how Lex showed Ryan his comic book collection, and also how Clark was refusing to let Ryan die because it showed how much Ryan meant to Clark as a friend.

I cried like a baby in the end. It's one of the best episodes. I only wish they had Ryan in more episodes in both Season 1 and 2 because his relationship with Clark was really cool. And sweet.

this episode was one of the best of Season 2.

This was one of the best, I agree. The ending with the air baloon and CLark standing in the hospital staring off was heart breaking. It was a major breakthrough for him too, as I think it's basically the first time he lost someone close to him he couldn't save? Really good scenes here.

This was a superb episode IMO, i felt sorry for Ryan after all the ordeal he had been through. It was a great episode that brought out an emotional side of Clark. A true great of Season 2. Simply a wonderful ep

I just rewatched it a few hours ago God I forgot how sad that song at the end made me feel. :)
But I must admit I liked Ryan and I want Clark to pull out the comics he gave him at some point. I'd love some Ryan continuity unless Clark threw those comics away.

This was such a good episode.
That kid that plays Ryan is superb.
Yum, Yum... The Cigarette Smoking Man and Lex go toe to toe. :D
Pete's better at hiding a crush than Chloe. :D
Dr. Evil Devil Gardener (Garner?).
Lex comes to Ryan's rescue wearing silly pink shades. "I'm so rich I can kick your butt (legally of course) wearing these posh pink shades!" LOL!
Party at the Talon. Cheesy but I love it!
I love Lex's bonding with Ryan. And his advice to Clark to spend quality time with Ryan rather than running around looking for a cure until it's too late to say goodbye. Lex really opens up to Clark in this episode. Too bad the BDA doesn't notice.
Ryan tells Clark to look after Lex. Clark ignores this advice for the next 3 years. Ok, ok... maybe he does look after Lex... (sigh). I guess...
Love Lex in this episode. Love his speach to Ryan about evil... A journey not a lightswitch (that's the quote given to me in my lightswitch thread :D I love it...) Love the forshadowing of the Warrior Angel/Devil-licus story. Genius to have Lex tell Ryan that story. "You should remember that Lex." Lex really takes his advice to heart and finds a way to defeat the corrupt Mayor. This doesn't last long though...
How did I miss that Lana is the girl next door, Literally?
Anyway, I realized it b/c Clark is lamenting the fact that Lana's moving. She will no longer be the girl next door. True that! She'll be an artist and a witch woman and... LOL!
She knows about the telescope and teases Clark about it. Where'd this Lana go during the next three years?
Ryan tells Clark, "Promise me you'll never give up." How could this Clark blow up the spaceship and run away to metropolis. Guess he forgot about his promise... (sigh)
Anyway the hot air balloon ride was magical. If a little implausible... Maybe he was friends with the balloon guy. I love that Ryan has peace b/c he's so far away from people... well... except balloon guy.
This episode was such a tear-jerker despite the fact the Tom Welling sucks at crying... at least when you're supposed to see the tears. :D

Yes, a very sad episode indeed. Still good. Ryan was a nice character that they really should have used a few more times, I agree.
Awesome Episode yes and Bring Kyla back :D
it got me emotional :( it was so good for clark to meet her. he had a great chemistry with her and those feelings were unique and for the first time in his life.
BRING THE chick back

I just watched Ryan again tonite and everytime it makes me cry!
Really good eppy. I loved that Lex opened up to Ryan and Clark. Lex told Clark some things that I'll bet he never told anyone! It was good advice too.
Warrior Angel and Devilicus! Wonderful storytelling!
I am pretty sure Clark must have asked Lex to set up the hot air balloon for Ryan. His friendship will a billionaire does have its advantage! Clark said that to Lana when he asked Lex to set up the Sharks to play with Whitney for his Dad.
I love seasons 1,2,3!

It was so sad that Ryan died. Unlike his first episode Stray this one actually explained the root of his powers. In the scene between Ryan and Martha at the Luthor mansion you know that Ryan found out that Martha was pregnant.

I still don't understand the point of killing him off. He could have come in every five or six episodes and foiled some plot of Lionel Luthor, or Lex or some other evil being.

Great episode. Ryan was an awesome character. It's a shame he had to die. Then again, I think that having a tumor was plausible. Hearing people's thoughts has to be hard on your brain.
I love when Ryan tells Lex to remember what happened between Warrior Angel and Devilicus. Great parallel.

What a beautiful episode, really, at least Ryan's parts, I remembered crying when he died, it was a great character and I just didn't see his death coming, it was very touching.

he had a brain tumour that made a certain part of his brain work differently, he most certainly wasn't an alien, and i wouldn't call him and mutant
and i was pretty sure he figure out Martha was pregnant, why do you say it was just about her potential?

Ohhh, that makes sense. I always wondered what he meant by the "I wont tell your secret" line but I guess I've never put two and two together.
Thank you for enlightening me!

Just watched the episode last night- & I LOVE the friendship between Clark & Ryan & Clarks line " He's like a little brother "
Definately one of my favorite episodes from S2
I had tears in me eyes when Clark picked the comic books up & looked at the empty bed with " Angels & Devil " playing .... :\
Ryan is one of my favorite episodes from season 2.
His character is amazing...and I keep crying at the very end when Ryan dies :( so sad.

One of the best episodes of season two--I give it a 10. Great acting and wonderful cameo by Cigarette Man as the mayor. I remember seeing this the first time and being really moved. Time hasn't taken that away--sad but powerful--Clark just can't save everyone, even the ones he loves.

Yeah, this is one of the episodes I've watched more than most others. I LOVED the character of Ryan James. He really brought out the best in Clark and they had such a great little brother/big brother vibe that I wish they would've continued for longer. It's neat to know that he's one of the people who spurred Clark on to his heroic destiny and inspired him to never give up. He really deserved at least an "arc" of episodes to flesh out his character even more and give him more time with Clark. I don't see how that final balloon scene and the musical montage afterwards COULDN'T make a person teary-eyed.
--SGuthrie ><>' :)--
An excellent episode for all the above mentioned reasons so I won't rehash them. The one unique concept I liked about the Ryan episodes is he offered an incredible glimpse into the future, for obvious reason, of Lex and Clark. The conversations with Lex are especially eerie as it's almost as if Lex knows what Ryan is alluding to.

I love this episode. Very emotionally powerful. I was so upset that Ryan died... for the longest time, I wanted the Kents to adpot him and have him stick around for a little longer on the show :(
I do like this episode a little better than Stray though, too. Maybe because the title is named after ME! :D (Ryan) jk

Not only did I enjoy this episode, I thought season 2 was possibly the best season ever. IMO the show really hit it's stride and produced this ep along with many of the best ever.

I've been rewatching my DVD's and when this episode was next I made sure to have some Kleenex nearby, knowing I'd cry. I did. That final scene is such a heartbreaker and the moments before it...
Just when you think Lex was going to save the day....
