A young man named Byron (Sean Faris) is kept in the basement of his home, only sneaking out at night. Meanwhile, Martha gets a job with Lionel Luthor.

This was the first filler episode of the season and a decent one at that. The characterization was handled pretty well only the main plot didn't make sense. How could Byron be able to see if he wasn't expose to any light?

I don't know. He was cool though and I'm pretty sure he was as strong as Clark at the time.

This is one of the worst episodes of the season. I thought that Byron was creepy and he should have stayed in the dark.

I agree with you almost completely there as i think it was the 2nd worst episode of Season 2. Yeh Byron was a wacked out fella stalking Lana in the cemetary i mean wot the heck!? And the whole 'if i get exposed to sunlight' thing was pretty stupid and un-neccesary i guess the only thing i liked was in the end the way Clark and Lana talked. The only shining point really.

One of the worst episodes of the series.

Why would a guy that has spent the last 8 years in his basement be sending love letters to Lana. She's not even his age so he couldn't have met her in school. And it's not like he gets to go out a lot.

It was a stupid way for TPTB to have an episode with a Lana stalker - like there aren't enough.

The actor that played Byron did a good job though.

I whole-heartedly agree, Sean Farris did an impeccable job given the character that he was. He was also soft on the eyes, real eye candy. Oh heck. I'll just say it. He is a very sexy man.

Just a filler episode, the only important part was Martha becoming Lionel's assistant, nothing more.

The only part I liked was Lex quoting John Donne's poetry to Lana in the Talon. I finally found the poem. The exact quote is:

Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor even chaste, except you ravish me.

Oh yes... that made me melt.

Yeah, this is what I'll remember the episode for. That was such a great plot and I really wish they would have kept it going a little longer.

I'm re-watching old seasons of Smallville and I just finished this one.

The good:

Apparently, this is a KS and BP episode, not sure if it is their first, but it is kind of funny to see they names on screen this far back.

The Kent family drama about not having enough money is actually a very good subplot and works really well.

Richard Moll (Byron's dad) is good in the limited screen time he has.

The bad:

Lana's hanging in a graveyard? That's um... weird.

Clark is really stalking Lana in this episode and gets jealous when someone else decides to beat him to the punch.

Byron is a crap freak of the week. Non Green-K version. Just boring really.

Luthor drama is well-acted, but I don't care about it.

And the ending conversation is os on the nose with Lana and Clark, you end up yelling at the television because they are so stupid.

All in all, this is filler at its best/worst.

KS and BP did a good job with the characters, but failed at an over arching story for the episode. Mainly, because the Byron stuff is not interesting at all.

4 out of 10.

I would definantly be more forgiving of this episode if it ended on a better note, but anytime an epsiode ends with Clark and Lana, where she makes a passive aggressive remark towards Clark that gets him depressed, it definantly drops it down a notch in my book. It seems like in general we got secrets and lies Lana the first half of S2, but then they dropped it the second half and her character became easier to watch(till S3 secrets and lies redux)

I believe that this episode is totally underrated!!

I give 8 out ot 10

the little chat of Lana and Clark at the end..was really one of the best talk they ever had, She made her intentions clear to him that she wanted to know his secrets.
Byran story was really sweet, I was kind of bored with new villan every time and later the villan dies...Here is the story is different, Byran is kind of guy who was victim for one of the luther's cruel desires, And martha is working for luther..? lol that sounds very interesting.. I loved when Lex is trying to protect Kents... i hope he ll stick that for long time...!!

I just watched this episode and I actually thought it was pretty good.

I loved Lex, Martha, and Lionel.

Lex came off fantastically in the episode. I also like when he is interacting with Lana in the Talon and they talk about understanding poetry as Clark walks in.

The poet was an interesting angle.

Lana is really starting to get on Clark's case for hovering around her and obviously keeping secrets from her, but not acting on his feelings or telling her any of this secrets. I can see why she is acting this way. He's being a total tease to her and I'd be pretty annoyed with him too. If he doesn't want to tell her his secrets or act on his feelings, he should just back off and tell her to find a nice guy who will be honest with her and actually take her on a date instead of giving her sweet speeches and then backing off again.
