A washed up, alcoholic tabloid reporter named Perry White (Michael McKean, real life husband of Annette O'Toole, guest stars) comes to town and thinks he sees Clark using his abilities.

They need to bring him back. It's episodes like this, Relic, and Memoria that make Season 3 my favorite season thus far.
A reintroduction of Perry---even if they just bump into him for a cameo at The Daily Planet, would give me the biggest grin. Imagine a moment at the Daily Planet: Clark and Lois visit Chloe regarding some plot device--Perry walks in.
Yup. Feels like Superman. :)

For sure I wish they would bring Perry back in every once in awhile. His character was so hilarious. Usually people who are out to expose Clark totally annoy me but he was so funny.

Another fantastic S3 episode. Mike McKeon did such a kick ass job as Perry White. I was very skeptical about PW being brought in, but they did a suprisingly good job, and I love the end of the episode because of the fact that Clark now has an in at the DP because he saved Perry's life. The tractor scene with Clark and JK is also one of my favorites.
I love this episode. Yeah, it's a funny episode, which isn't that common on this show. But it also has some very big plot points, as well as the Perry intro. Finding out that Clark is solar-powered is a big thing for the show. It's one part of Superman's origin that has changed a couple times, but they've gone back to the Yellow Sun bit in the most recent stories, so it's nice to see.
Plus, Michael McKean is hillarious. He's a very gifted comic actor (go watch Clue, seriously) and yet he still can make Perry a very believable person. It also gives us a nice bit of background information for the rest of the season, as well as a hint as to what's to come with Lionel.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this. That was definately one of the highlights of the episode for me.

The part where the tractor lands right infront of Perry and he pours out his drink is just great. I laughed for forever and then when Jonathan was talking to the sherriff for some reason really had me laughing too.

Perry is one of my definite favorite episodes. Seems like all of my favorite episodes happened in either S1 or S3, lol. Anyway, love love love this episode. I was watching it with my dad the other day and he really enjoyed it, and this coming from a guy who normally dislikes SV. He thought the tractor part was hilarious. I really like the scene where Lex enters the bar that Perry and Clark's in, it's such an atmospheric scene and seems to highlight the importance of Clark, Lex and Perry meeting together like that. I liked how they handled Perry in this episode too, he was pretty funny and yet sympathetic. I love when he got Lana upset, lol.

Michael McKean did a good part of making me believe that Perry White was redeemable.

A wonderful funny episode :)
Perry hold a issue of the Torch in the Talon.
Perry: Think the editor would know something about the meteor shower?
Clark: How would I know?
Perry: "Principal Authorizes New Gym Mats. By Clark Kent."
A little pause
Perry: I know I was riveted
The look Clark gave Perry with his eyes was hilarious :D

I just rewatched this show and found a blooper..
At the begining when Clark leaves the house to meet Pete, after he closes the door you hear the "whoosh" but if you look hes still there
Anyway, this could very well be the funniest episode of Smallville

Also I dont know why this cracked me up but when Clark said his power gave out somewhere around Colorado Springs I got a laugh because Schneider played the Sherriff of Colordao Springs on Dr Quinn in the 6th Season. Probably not really that big of a deal but the coincidence that the writers used that city and that Clark was talking to Bo made it funny to me for some odd reason.

If only we got some scenes with Michael McKean and Annette O'Toole together. Their chemistry would've been great.

Yeah that was a classic scene. Wish we could see him throw tractors more often :D It's more impressive than seeing him toss men into the wall.

OMG could not stop laughing on this episode. I was laughing on everything Perry said, some of my favorite quotes:
"Principal authorizes new gym mats by clark kent. I know i was rivited."
"Life is a journey young grasshopper, and sometimes it's easier with a little lubricant." OMG so unexpected!! i was lmao!!

This was a pretty cool episode. I didn't think I would like it because I thought it was silly to try and showhorn Perry into Smallville but it really worked (although I'm not sure I liked the drunk angle).
The only thing that kinda bothered me (Ok, guess it's 2 things!) was that Michael didn't get to have any scenes with Annette (can you imagine the chemistry?) and that they did the whole "Clark's powers conviently fade or go away or whatever when he needs them to" card. It happened in Leech and again here. I kinda hate that.
But a great episode with a lot of great lines and moments (the tractor!). :)

I rewatched that part becouse of your comment and you are absolutely right. Kinda big blooper.
Back to the episode:
I LOVE PERRY WHITE. One of the best in the series.
I laughed my ass of when i saw tractor scene. I mean, he was standing there, thinking of putting everything behind and suddenly, a tractor falls down from the sky, he pours his whiskey and WOSH, clark kent is there. So funny :P I laughed my ass of, really.
Great episode, its always good to see Clarks secret in danger.

What did I think of the episode Perry? I loved this show for seven reasons:
1) I loved the part where Clark Kent rescues Perry White. I loved the scene where Perry White swerves, so he wouldn't hit Clark Kent. Clark Kent behaved very Super-Manly in this episode, by rescuing Perry White. Clark pulls Perry White from the car, carries him, then he super-speeds and sets Perry White down on the ground.
He asks Perry White if he is okay. Perry White exclaims, "You pulled the door right off the car with your bare hands? You walked right through the power lines." (Without Clark Kent being electrocuted. That's Clark Kent for you).
Clark replies to Perry White, "You're a little drunk, mister..."
Perry White answers, "White. Perry White."
(This was the best part of it. Clark rescuing Perry White).
2) I loved Perry White's sense of humor. Some of the funniest quotes from Perry are:
Perry (to Clark): "Last time I saw you, you were frisbeeing the door off my car and ignoring the high voltage lines."
Clark (to Perry): "What are you doing here?"
Perry: "You inspired me. If you've got a gift, you should use it. Remember?"
Perry (to Clark): "See, the way I figure it, you're strong, you're shockproof, and you're incredibly fast. Plus you're cursed with this hero complex.
Clark (to Perry White): "Yeah, why don't you come back down and we'll talk about that."
Perry (to Clark, while hanging from a cliff on a rope): "Okay, fun's over. Time to release those incredible powers there, Clark."
Clark (to Perry, truthfully): I don't have any powers!"
3) I also loved the scene with Perry White and Clark Kent (at the bar). They're both sitting at a bar and Perry White orders drinks while talking to Clark.
Clark Kent tells Perry White: "Mr. White, I've been looking for you."
Perry: "And here I am. You may have the makings of a reporter, yet, Mr. Kent."
Clark: "Like you used to be? Chloe and I did some checking after you left."
Perry White answers back with wit, "Memories fade, but a google search never forgets."
Clark replies, "And another drink isn't gonna erase the fact that you used to be one of the best reporters in Metropolis. What happened?"
Perry: "Life is a journey, grasshopper, and sometimes the trip is smoother with a little lubricant. What's it to you, anyway?"
Clark: "Maybe it's the journalist in me, or that I realized if you have a gift, you shouldn't turn your back on it."
(This was one of the nicest lines that Tom Welling has said in Perry. I loved the way Clark Kent gave a nice compliment to Perry White. This is one of the scenes I will never forget).
4) Tom Welling was very humorous in this episode. One of the best quotes from Tom Welling in Perry are:
Clark (to Ma & Pa Kent): "Actually it's a relief to be researching a cosmic disaster that has nothing to do with me."
Jonathan (to Clark): Well, we always have wondered about the source of your abilities."
Clark (replying to his Dad): "Maybe my strength and my speed, all the things that I can do, they come from the sun."
Pete (humorously): "It's like you're some sort of walking solar battery."
This is the funniest part:
Martha (to Clark): "So you're sure everything's okay now?"
(Clark Kent tests out his super-speed by throwing a bale of hay up into the air and catches it). He smiles at his Mom and answers, "Once the effects of the solar flare faded, everything went back to normal."
Martha (laughs at Clark): "Including your sense of humor."
5) Perry White figures out Clark's secret:
I love the scene where Perry White comes back on the Kent farm to tell Clark, "I finally found my story. I got the facts to back it up."
Clark asks Perry, "What kind of facts are those?"
Perry White answers Clark Kent, "The accident, the power lines, your magical appearance as your family tractor drops out of the sky. I spent the morning combing through police records and newspaper stories. You're Johnny on the Spot, Clark. You're Smallville's own hero on deck."
Clark Kent disagrees with Perry White, "Trust me, Mr. White, there's nothing special about me."
Perry White disagrees saying, "Oh, that's where you're wrong, kid. So far I got you pegged as really strong and shock-resistant. The question is, what other tricks have you got up your sleeve?"
Later, Perry White witnesses Clark Kent's super-speed and says to Clark (right in front of his girlfriend, Lana Lang, and his best friend Pete Ross): "See, the way I figure it, you're strong, you're shock-proof, and you're incredibly fast. Plus you're cursed with this hero complex."
Tom Welling was very funny as Clark Kent when he answered Perry White, "Yeah, why don't you come back down on the deck and we'll talk about that."
Perry White finds out the hard way when he jumps from the gorge (with a rope hanging on his leg), and Clark Kent screams out, "No!" and jumps after Perry White to try to save him. Poor Clark Kent lost his super-powers (but tries to save Perry White, anyway). After Clark and Perry are hanging from a rope, Perry White becomes afraid and says to Clark, "Okay, fun's over. Time to unleash those incredible powers there, Clark." Clark Kent answers honestly, "I don't have any powers!" He lost them.
6) I loved the Clark Kent & Lana Lang scene. Clark tells Lana he was going to stop by the Talon later to thank her. Lana Lang tells Clark that she was glad that she was able to help. She also says she doesn't understand why Mr. White thought that Clark could do all those incredible things.
Clark answers Lana, "You know, I was just talking about the gorge. Whether I meant to or not, I helped dredge up all those old memories about the meteor shower. I wanted to thank you for forgiving me."
Lana answers Clark that she went to the graveyard this morning. Clark answers Lana, "I bet your parents were happy to see you."
Lana says, "Suddenly I realized I hadn't been there for months. I told my parents that I never meant to ignore them, but...there's someone else in my life now, someone I really care about.
Clark (embarrassed): "Lana --"
Lana: Clark, it's okay. I also told them that we were in a kind of strange place right now. But I am still hoping that we can still work it out. The important thing is, they know they will always be in my thoughts. I better go."
7) And the last scene that I liked was Perry telling Clark, "You really are kind of a freak, you know that? You try to help people, even fools like me, and you never ask for anything in return. When I saw your face up there after it was all over, I suddenly realized I was about to tear down a good person. I just couldn't believe there was actually anyone like you out there."
Clark humbly says to Perry White, "Trust me, Mr. White, I'm not that good."
Then Perry White compliments Clark's writing skills and says to Clark, "Oh, by the way, I went over a couple more of your Torch stories."
Clark: "And?"
Perry: "Well, they're rough, and half the time you buried the lead, but I see a glimmer of hope. If you ever make it to Metropolis, look me up. I owe you one."
I also liked hearing Clark tell Perry, "Something tells me the world hasn't seen the last of Perry White." Perry White answers Clark Kent, "Something tells me you're right."
(Tom Welling and Michael McKean worked very well together. I loved their lines, their wit and their sense of humor. Perry is one of my favorite episodes from the 3rd Season of Smallville. I enjoyed this episode).
A) Favorite Clark related moments: My favorite Clark related moments are when Clark and Perry are hanging on the rope and Perry says to Clark, "Okay, Clark. Time to unleash those incredible powers of yours," and Clark answers back to Perry, "I don't have any powers!" Then after Pete and Lana rescue Clark & Perry and pull them up, Clark looks at Perry (what an incredible actor Tom was, when he gave that look to Michael McKean), and it's as if Clark wanted to say to Perry (after Perry finds out Clark has no powers), "Well, are you satisfied, now?" This was my favorite Clark related moment in Perry.
B) Favorite Clark Line: Clark: "And another drink isn't gonna erase the fact that you used to be one of the best reporters in Metropolis. Maybe it's the journalist in me, or that I realized that if you have a gift, you shouldn't turn your back on it."
C) Favorite Clark Kent scene:
Clark Kent's smile as he says to Ma & Pa Kent, "Actually, it's a relief to be researching a cosmic disaster that has nothing to do with me." Also, another favorite Clark Kent scene is when Clark Kent smiles at his Mom, throws a bale of hay in the air and catches it (at the barn).
D) Funniest Clark Kent moment:
When Martha Kent comes to visit Clark in the barn, she says to him, "Are you sure everything is all right?" Clark throws the bale of hay in the air, superspeeds and catches it, smiles and says to his Mother, "Once the effects of the solar flare faded, everything went back to normal." Martha laughs and replies to Clark, "Including your sense of humor."
E) I only wish that Clark was truthful to Lana, especially when Lana told Clark that she doesn't understand why Perry said Clark could do all those incredible things (Clark's super-speed, Perry saying Clark's very strong, shock-proof, etc.). I wish that Clark didn't have to hide his secret from Lana, and admitted to Lana, "Perry is right. I can do all those things he says I can do."
F) What do I like best about Tom's performance? I like Tom having a great sense of humor (not only is he great at showing his facial expressions, for example, when he looks serious (I notice that Tom doesn't get nervous and laughs. He's really good at facial expressions). Tom also shows that he can have a great sense of humor, while acting on Smallville.
Another best Tom Welling performance is the way he rescued Perry White, when he pulled the car door open (with his super-strength) in order to rescue Perry White. Tom lifts up Michael and super-speeds out of the way. Then he puts Michael/Perry White down on the grass. What an incredible performance. And the way Tom rescued Michael by jumping off the gorge to save Perry White. That stunt was incredible.

Does anyone know what the initials are that the stars are forming at the very beginning of the episode? Right as you see the comet moving, it looks like the stars form the initials JH or OH. Are those the initials of some crew member?

It's sort of like... from moment to moment he couldn't judge his strength. Sometimes he would be weaker, sometimes he would be stronger. You don't use the same amount of muscle strength to pick up an orange and a TV. Similarly, I'm sure Clark gauge his super speed according to how far he's going to go. So he intended to trot to the house but the sun was spiking so he went into super speed just on the amount of energy he exerted to trot. Then as he began slowing to a stop... the amount of energy he'd use to slow to a stop when boosted by the erratic sun... sent him across country.
His best bet was probably to try laying down/falling down rather than slowing down.

This is one of my favorite episodes of this season. I like Perry White. Also, you can see the developing relationship of Lana and Lex. How Lana leans on Lex when she can't get what she wants from Clark or anyone else.

This is one of my favorite episodes of all time. I too had reservations about Perry being an alcoholic but once I saw it was MM playing him I knew it would be terrific! I love his sarcastic wit and would have loved to see him square off with Lionel.
Tom did a great job with this as well. His facial expressions are priceless.
Another great part is when he is trying to tell the sheriff about the tractor and he calls her chief! Priceless!

I loved this episode! It's hilarious and Perry was a fun ! I had thought they would have brought him back for more then two episodes, but oh well. Fun character. The tractor scene is classic and I also loved the scene where the sheriff was talking with Perry, Jonathan and Clark, then she wont listen to Perry since he blabbered about flying monkies in his room the day before - then Jonathan even snickered. I thought that was real cute XD

I enjoy this episode alot. My favorite moment was the tractor falling from the sky but the darkest moment I noticed was when Lex was basically flipping out because of the therapist wouldn't sign off his papers. This episode all in all has got to be in the top 10 of my favorite episodes for this season.
