A sweet little boy named Ryan (Ryan Kelley) who can read minds is taken in by the Kents.

Aww I loved Ryan. Poor kid. Most of the time I dont like the Superman related songs on this show becuase it just feels like they threw them in there just for the sake of being there but I liked the one they used here. I just cant remember the title of the song.

Some scenes in this episode were very emotional. I especially liked the part when Clark played basketball with Ryan.

yeah and the scene with Jonathan and Martha where they were watching the boys play basketball was sweet too when they were talking about how it might be nice for Clark of been nice if Clark had a younger brother to share his secret with. It was a cute scene between the 2.

Them lil cute scenes is what I will miss the most I think with Bo now being gone from the show

I liked seeing Clark punch through the dumpster (if memory serves) and we see a very comicbook panel image of Clark, with the light streaming behind him. Well-shot. Good episode.

Odd how the driver of the truck didn't notice Clark doing that.

I liked Ryan. It's too bad they killed him off.

Ryan was a great younger brother to Clark, cause they could relate to eachother. Ryan also was a low-level telepath so he wouldn't feel left out because they both have powers. I think that Ryan could have eventually read Clarks mind if he would have practiced.

I loved the music! They went with the episode really well! This seaon did a pretty god job with the music. Sometimes I think Smallville doesn't use enough, but I guess it's better then too much. Too much music can ruin a moment completely.

My favorite scene is in the beginning. That song was awesome! and with Ryan running it just made it even better. God it was soo good! One of my favorite episodes!

Ryan James was great. He wasn't all that great of a telepath, but I can't expect everyone to be like Proffesor X.

This is a brilliant episode. How Ryan feels about Clark is a glimpse to how millions will feel when he becomes Superman in the future. Pure comic-book!

A very deep and emotional episode and is followed up well in Season 2's Ryan.

This was a good emotional episode, but for me it wasnt one of the best ones this season. The boy who plays Ryan is a very talented actor and he really made me feel bad for him.

yea this was a cool episode, funny how in this episode ryan can't read clarks mind. But in Ryna he says he knew about the part halfway there in the car(Either he channel'd those at the talon the closer they got,or its another of the writers slipup).Plus chloe expression in the street when clark tells her what ryan said about the prom/buyin the dress was priceless. She was so embarrassed it was too funny, those 2 look good together when its bein pointed out that 1 may have feelings for the other.

naw i doubt it. I always thought that the reason Ryan COULDN'T read Clark's mind is because he was not from Earth and Ryan was an earthling. Anyway, I thought the scene in which Clark's discovers that Ryan already KNEW the spaceship in the cellerand the reasons WHY Ryan wanted to stay with the Kents was touching and heartbreaking . The definitley wanted to belong to 'real' family. :(

I wondered the same thing about Ryan knowing about the party the first time I watched that episode, but then I watched it again and Ryan said he knew about the party "a half a block away" so it wasn't until they were almost there that he knew about it which makes me think he picked it up from the people at the party and not from Clark.

This episode and Ryan were my favorites so far (I'm halfway through season 3 now) and I'm not ashamed to admit I get teary eyed when watching either one. The opening scene of Ryan that ends with his head slumping on the table then cutting to the "Somebody Save Me" theme song is enough right there. Ryan James is a great actor and I really enjoyed both episodes. I just wish I'd gotten to watch the episode "Ryan" before reading this thread so I wouldn't have known he was going to die. Well, on second thought maybe it was better that I knew going in instead of finding out the hard way. Who knows... :)

Hmm. Uou like Ryan huh? Never would have guessed. :p

I agree with you. There was something special about this episode and the effect Ryan had on the various Kent family memebers. I wish he would have stayed around longer. He would have made a great cast member as Clark's adopted brother.

God, I love this episode.

I liked the episode as well. Several interesting aspects and foreshadowing. I also like the Penthourse Pet of the year giving a bit part. Lovely Brandy.....

The producers should have had Ryan come back more often and read people's minds and foil Lionel Luthor's evil schemes

Hey everyone, I just rewatched this episode, still one of the better episodes of Season 1. Even today, it's shocking to see when the bad girl foster mom is just shot dead with a rifle. Wow, anyway another thing I always noticed was the familiar town name in which Ryan's Aunt lives in "Edge City" I know I knew that name from somewhere, but could never remember where. I found out though that "Edge City" is the city Stanley Ipkiss aka The Mask is from "Edge City", The Mask is off of Dark Horse Comics, an affiliate of both DC and Marvel.

I absolutely adore this episode, just fantastic. Great story, character development, everything. Ryan is definitely one of the best metahumans (since he's not a meteor freak) that has ever appear on Smallville.

Since this ep, everytime I listen to Five for Fighting's "Superman", I can't help to remember Ryan :(

One of the best episodes of season 1.

Ryan had the coolest power ever, it would've been sooo funny to see him in a scene with Lois.

Good Chlark moments in that episode, the dress scene especially. Clark really is clueless.

All I have to say is that the Ryan kid can really act. I wonder what he is doing now.

I saw this episode again today and darn it, I cried at the end when Ryan was leaving. And it was SO moving that Ryan gave Clark his Warrior Angel comics.

Ryan: I don't need them anymore. I have you.....:)

This is one of my all-time favorite Season 1 episodes, and probably is in my top ten episodes of Smallville of all time. Ryan James is one of my favorite recurring characters. His little brother relationship to Clark was always fun to watch, and I was really excited when he returned in Season 2.
