Three jocks who say "bro" a lot and have Kryptonite tattoos that can make them walk through walls decide to bring Whitney into their little gang. Be! The! Car!

this is an underrated episode. this is one of my favorites of S1 and the idea of the people walking through the walls is pretty cool!
my favorite quote:
jock to whitney-"come on man it will be fun, FUN!!!!"
I really didn't like this episode. It really was a "too little too late" attempt to make Whitney a sympathetic character. And the "drug" storyline was something of a mis-fire. At first they didn't really make it clear that it was a "drug" storyline, then they beat us about the head and neck with the fact it was a "drug" storyline.
I did feel slightly sorry for Whitney towards the beginning of the episode, but nothing happening in this episode really makes up for the fact that he started the series by stringing up the main character in a field.

I'm not to fond of most of this episode myself but I love the Clark/Chloe stuff both at the beginning and throughout the eppy.

I would probably call this the worst episode of the season. They tried to make the audience sympathize with Whitney but we couldn't do that with the lame guest stars and non-realistic characters.

i dont really like anything that focuses heavily on jocks (except for remember the titans). this episode was pretty good but one of the worst in season one. i would love to be able to walk through walls though.

It was too little too late for Whitney, but that character had a lot of upside in the very beginning. To me the character's simplicity is one of the fundamental principles that is sorely lacking in the garbage that is being put out right now.

I agree. I know SV was just beginnig but I think that IF they had allowed whitney NOT to be killed off, he would have definitley would have been the perfect boyfriend for Lana . the character really seem to love her despite that he was senior, she a freshman. Here in this epi, eventhough she was starting to have some feelings for Clark, you can see that he has some potential at least he wasn't a FOS or evil corrupt business man.

Whitney always was a useless character.

I don't like this episode, the whole Whitney story...I pass, really.
Plus, I think these guys are some of the worts meteor freaks, I mean, Kryptonite tatoos? how the hell ink made of Kryptonite gave them those powers?...oh well
At least here's where The Talon story begins.

I agree.
I don't like SV episodes who focus on jocks. In the same department, Recruit was pretty average too.
Also, Whitney with attitude wearing sunglasses in his dad's store? Pretty bad.
I thought it was funny though that the guy had lost his arm in the bank's wall (and that Clark saw it when he x-rayed the bank's safe).

I liked this episode. I remember it being very entertaining. I didn't think sympathetic Whitney was forced. I felt that it was built up in the previous episodes where he was worried about his scholarship and dealing with his dad's illness. Krypto-tattoos are dumb but kinda funny.
Watching this again I thought the parallels between Whitney's story and Jonathan's back story were interesting. It also makes "Hero" seem less dumb. LOL!
I liked seeing Whitney and Clark working together and Clark used a lot of his abilities in creative ways. Also the Chlark in this episode is so sweet.
There was also a little Chloe/Lex and supportive Clana friendship. Not one of the best but certainly not the worst... (Drone... Reaper).

I didn't like it a lot. It was the only episode which Whitney had a decent screentime

The episode that basically destroyed Whitney as a character. One of the worst of the Season.

Anybody notice the actress that plays Kate on Lost has a small part on the episode?

I did notice that Evangeline Lilly made an appearance! Of course, I'd heard about it on a website or something beforehand, but still, it's a nice little cameo. "Kinetic" wasn't exactly the most amazing episode of all time, but it did have a few nice elements. For one, of course, it was one of the few episodes to really give Whitney's character the chance to be the center of attention and to have something interesting to do, and there was some nice development for him, and his growing, grudging respect for Clark. The Lana/Talon storyline took its first tentative steps here, and I liked it. It was nice seeing Lana, in the early seasons, beginning to try to be more independent and pursuing her own dreams and aspirations. Of course, one of my favorite elements of this episode was the Chlark angle. Seeing how concerned Clark was for Chloe's well-being, and the great conversations they had, both in the hospital and directly after Chloe got out, were both funny and touching. I love the innocence of the cast's Season One interactions. :D

I love the innocence of the cast's Season One interactions.
Well not so innocent when 22 year old Lex tells 14 year old Lana that "this can be the start of a very interesting partnership" at the end(even worse they make Lana do the ambigious 5 second stare into outer space after he tells her that) :P

This is the only episode I really noticed Whitney as not being the annoying jock, but in the end I ended up not caring for him again! :P It was weird seeing Kavan Smith as a villain (the lead jock) I was used to seeing him on another show (Stargate Atlantis). Walking through walls was cool. I felt really bad for Chloe in this episode, it may sound VERY odd but I felt like giving her a hug....which has NEVER happened before with a TV show! Go Lana on saving the Talon! I give this episode a 9.

Eh it was a good plot, but i hate the whiney episodes. IDK i guess im just dissapointed about this episode compared to the last
I was never a big fan of the Whitney character, but walking through walls is an interesting ability and makes an interesting episode. 6/10

I liked Whitney, I started liking him a few eps back, possibly early in the season. The other jocks I hated! I think they did an ok job with transforming Whitney from the stereotypical jock into the man who wants to do something better with his life.

Watching season 1 on DVD and finding parallels to later episodes. Most are from Season 10 and some Season 9, because I just picked back up watching the series after a long hiatus last season. The parallels are very fun, and the lines are really funny. This is my take on Kinetic...
This is kind of Ambush’s (S10) parallel episode.. we see clark chopping wood in both Kinetic and Ambush. Kinetic is also the episode when the Talon was born. Ambush is the episode when the Talon dies.
Fave quotes that get me giddy.
"Clark Kent, investigative reporter, has a nice ring to it."- Chloe
“These so called health care professionals just want me to stay in bed and eat jello”- Chloe
“Those fascists” - Clark (hehehehe)

Not one of my favorites. I never really liked Whitney (it started with hanging Clark up in the cornfield) and I couldn't understand what a high school senior was doing dating a freshman. Also, it didn't make sense that Nell would go along with the age difference since she seemed very controlling. But seriously, what did it say about Whitney? Was something lacking there and he couldn't deal with girls his own age?
