No Freak of the Week! Bad cop Sam Phelan (Cameron Dye) witnesses Clark using his powers, and aims to take advantage of him. Meanwhile, Victoria Hardwick (Kelly Brook), an old flame of Lex's, comes to town.

My favorite S1 episode and in my top five favorite episodes of all time for the show. I just cannot get enough of this episode. Phaelon made for a great villain, especially since he was not a FOTW, there was outstanding Supes forshadowing, great dialogue, awesome effects (the bus stopping is still my favorite effects spot), and a great cliffhanger ending with the blur on Lex's computer.
The most underrated episode of the show in my opinion.
10/10

I can't get enough of this episode though. It just has so many great things in it. Why some people don't like this episode more is beyond me.

I only part of this episode I disliked were the Chloe/Lana scenes. I just thought they could've been done better. Other than that, this episode was great.

This episode really doesn't lose its magic.
I popped in Disc 3 of Season 1- hit play all, and this came on- I forgot it was on the disc!
Great teaser (The museum/bus incident) and great ending (Lex catching Clark's superspeed on camera).
And a great villain who I wish had not have died! He was in flashbacks later throughout the season though. Hooray for S1 continuity!

This is not only one of the best episodes of season 1 but it is also one the best episodes of the entire series! It is so intense and the first time I watched it, it gave me the feeling that there was no way Clark would be able to get himself out of his dilemma. This is one of the episodes that I often put on when I am in the mood for a good old season 1 episode!

i have a question about this episode. if clark and phelan cut the power to the security cameras, how did lex get that film of the clark-blur?

ooo, ok, now i have an observation....
You know when clark is in the museum and is looking at the breast plate of Alexander the great, and lex goes "you know, some think he was invinsible" (or something like that)
do you think that they are trying to give the impression that Alexander the great was kryptonian? I mean, he had the s-shield and everything.

i just watched this episode again. Forgot how good it was. One thing that bothers me though. How could Lex not know Clark has super abilities after this episode?
Lex knows Clark was with the bad cop at the museum. The cage was ripped open, along with the security box. the bad cop had zero equpment for such stuff.
A bag that had the armor was launched out of a window. Then there is the video of something running fast. All that added up seems to me that Lex would figure it out.
Also the cops had a search warrant for the Kent's place. But never found the ship? always thought that was odd.
Anyway, I try to leave all logic out when I watch SV but this stuff just jumps out.

I think this was a great episode. It was interesting right from the beginning with the teaser and it followed through to the end. However, it isn't my favorite because for me there are so many episodes that are interesting all the way through.

An underrated episode. The villian here Phalen teaches Clark a big lesson. People will try to exploit him so he has to be careful about his powers. Better than many of the fotw episodes where clark saves lana yet again from harm. *cough* just let her die.

Hurricaine,
This probably lead Lex in the right direction with his theories about Clark. All the time on the show there are moments like this where Lex has to add two and two together. But there's still no concrete proof. His theory is already that Clark is not human. Now he's just OBSESSED with finding proof, for whatever his reasons.

yea a very underrated episode, however seein clark's emotion thruout this was cool.It just seem like he couldn't win he tried to do the right thing and end up gettin his dad locked up.then took a risk of gettin caught by lex at the end smh. This was sumwhat a glimpse into his future about ppl exploitin his powers, plus the actin here was great.Phelan was a great foe,too bad he had to die after 1 episode smh.

just saw it again... i really liked this episode! But as some of you have pointed out.. it's strange Lex didn't figure out Clark's powers by then! If Lionel was able to see clark superspeed Lana out of the exploding building by playing the clip in super slow-mo... couldn't Lex have done the same here?

This is personally my most favorite episode. I like the fact that this episode is trying to show the situation where you have to be careful with your gifts because someone with an immoral heart that had seen your power can make your life a living hell. This is sort of the first time I've ever seen a villain harassing and bothering the hero. I felt Clark. I was feeling the same way he was,too.:\

I wonder why that bad police cop wouldn't leave Clark alone. I know it's because he saw that he had powers but it's like he was trying to bother him just for the fun of it! Throughout the episode,he keeps finding him and forces him to do more bad things for him. And Clark tries to get out of which seems almost impossible. I felt terrible when Johnathan went to jail. I would punch the wall in rage, too! I sorta wished that Clark would've killed him when gotten the chance, but then I forgot....he's a damn cop! But,the cop got what he deserved. Shot at! And so stupid because you can't shoot Clark. He can't be hurt! Overall,I love this episode. I hope it'll comes back on TV.;) :D

What did I think of Rogue?
1) I liked the part when a man is having a heart-attack and Clark Kent comes along and stops the bus in time. That was an awesome special-effects. One of the best special-effects of the episode, Rogue. Ma & Pa Kent tell Clark they're proud of him for stopping the bus.
2) The funniest sayings/quotes from Sam Phelan are:
"Kid, I don't know what they've been feeding you, but that was impressive." (This episode showed how strong and powerful Clark's super-strength was. I loved the part where Clark caught the generator, and I liked how it impressed Sam Phelan).
"Nice catch." (Sam Phelan was talking about Clark catching the generator that fell down on Clark; Sam Phelan was testing Clark out to see how strong he was).
The best quote that Sam Phelan said, was: "You might be strong, but you're not bulletproof! What are you?" (I thought this scene was hilarious, because Sam had the shock of his life, when he found out that Clark Kent, the future Super-Man, really was bulletproof).
3) I loved the Chloe & Lana scene. Especially when Chloe says to Lana, "Lana, I'm sorry I flipped out on you the other day. The paper's kind of my identity and it's the only thing that Clark and I do together, and when I saw you here --
Lana responds, "You thought I was trying to cut Clark out of your life."
Chloe smiles, "Nobody ever said I was rational."
Lana tells Chloe, "I want to be friends with you, Chloe. But I don't want to stand between you and Clark.
Chloe answers back, "Oh, no. Don't worry. There's nothing between us. We're just good friends. How about you?"
Lana says, "Same thing. We're just friends."
Chloe says, "Good. I'm glad we got that out of the way."
(This was a great scene. It's one of the best Lana & Chloe scenes of the first season. I really loved the first season of Smallville).

Pretty cool episode, one of the few things I've notice for the first time was the S on the Alexander's breast plate, really nice.
The way Clark handled Phelan was really interesting, he did'nt wanted to put his family in risk but he did anyway, and at some point that was heartbreaking :(
I'm one of people who thinks that at some point Lex already knows the truth about Clark, so my guess is that in this episode, he obviously found out.

Rogue, S1, Lana to Chloe, "...but I don't want to stand between you and Clark." LIAR! You live for it.

Great episode! I loved to hate Sam Phelan. The villain story in this episode was really great, nothing bad to say about it.
Only thing that bothered me a lot about that episode.. I can't stand to see Chloe crying. You'd think she'd be brighter than that. I know the paper is her identity and all, but couldn't she just hold her tears? Plus, it wasn't even only a few tears it was the whole package (puffy eyes, ugly face expressions, trouble with the voice)... Maybe I'm cold-hearted, but when someone cries like that I just want to laugh at them for being so childish.

I recently re-watched this episode and it truly is one of the best of the series. Phelan is such a complex obstacle for Clark. So perfectly cast and well acted. Clark has to face his parent's worst fear... exposure of his secret. He faces the dark side of being as powerful as he is... what's to stop him from just killing his enemies? It seems so easy in a way... The scene when Clark visits Jonathan in the jail is very powerful... and they confront why Clark doesn't kill people.
In his dealings with Phelan Clark really asserts himself. He's clever, sly, he's more manly too. He pushes Lex away forcefully when usually he's sort of a wide eyed younger brother when it comes to Lex. Fantastic Clark episode. The answers are more complex than just pummeling a FOTW unconscious.
I love what this episode does for Lex' obsession too. Staring at the security camera footage, asking a dying Phelan for Clark's secret.
That's not to mention the Chloe/Lana story. This may be one of the best Chloe/Lana episodes. And it reveals a lot about Chloe. Why she loves the Torch so much. Chloe grows as a journalist - learns a lesson about having proof to support the claims she makes in print.
Great episode. Action packed... has lots of depth... very suspenseful.

" Rouge" is definately one of my top three favorite Season 1 episodes. Sam Phalen's maniacal scheming is a welcome story change after eight meteor freak baddies. He had poor Clark ensnared in such a vicious web. The scene at the prison when Clark and Jonathen are discussing Clark's anger toward Phalen is very sweet and earnest. Tom Welling and John Shnieder portray this father/son relationship so well.

I like how this episode is starting to get more recognition and attention. I personally love this episode.
First of all, it has the most realistic FX spot they did with the bus. No heavy CGI was needed and it looked real. Great Supes/mythos forshadowing with the breastplate and the quote "I don't see myself going into battle with that on my chest". Not to mention great scenes with Clark and the Kents, a fantastic non FOTW villain, and an awesome cliffhanger ending with the speed blur on Lex's computer.
To me, this is a perfect episode.
* On an interesting side note, did anyone else catch that the apartment Clark breaks into is in the same complex that Clark lives in during Exile? I wonder if it is the same apartment..
My top three
1) Shattered
2) Rogue
3) Exile

I have a question regarding this episode.
Phelan said that Jonathan will have to spend nearly every dime to get out of Jail, and at the end we find out the charges are dropped.
Why? There was a gun and dead body in his barn, that's more than enough proof. Phelan certainly wouldn't have said that unless he knew that was the case. He was a cop after all.

I enjoyed this one bit the middle to end seemed a bit over the top for me!
Although the idea of a Cop discovering Clark's secret was cool, I thought it could have been better done!
But still... 6/10

A fantastic episode! I loved the idea of a corrupt cop trying to blackmail Clark, it made things really fun and interesting. The only thing that bothers me is Clark's reluctance to tell his closest friends of his superpowers, especially Lana and Lex. Sure Lex might not be trustworthy later on but if Clark trusted him form the beginning things may of been different.

"Rogue" was a good, solid episode. It's one of the first occasions during which Clark's secret was in jeopardy, and we saw how he could be exploited by more unscrupulous people if he's not careful. Sam Phelan was an interesting, multi-faceted character. Honestly, I kind of wish they hadn't killed him off so quickly so he could return to mess with Clark again, but at least we got him in some "Zero" flashbacks.

Hands down one of my favorite episodes ever. I have seen it so many times and I never get sick of it. The bus crash is still the most realistic looking effect spot they have on the show IMO. Great mythos reference with the breast plate "I don't think I see myself going into battle with that on my chest." Phaelon was a GREAT villain. He didn't have powers, and used his intellect to really mess with Clark's life. Clark also showcased signs of intelligence in this episode with the safe dropping scene, and getting Phaelon's finger prints on the breast plate so he could deliver it to the cops. I also really liked the interaction that Clark had with his folks in this episode and this was the first time that we see Clark be "faster than a speeding bullet". Finally it has an awesome cliffhanger ending with Lex seeing the speed blur on the computer.
Definitely on my top 5 list of favorite episodes for the whole show.
The first non-Freak-of-the-Week episode. Although Sam Phelan was a big threat. This is good episode. 7/10

Just rewatched this episode recently, not sure if it's sad or funny that one of few episodes that shows a strong journalist storyline of somebody using the power of the media to make a difference is written for Lana. lol
