i know smallville is based on the most famous comics book and comic book character in the world but wasnt the whole point of the show to make it more reality based sort of set in the real world witch was sort of beleivable in seasons 1-3 then in season 4 we got magick but season 5 seems to of just gone almost all comic bookish with aliens, aliens robots, time travel ,vampires and portals to other dimensions.

TPTB said that they want Smallville to be a realistic version of Superman and we've seen them do just the opposite.

realistic? They have done a great job not being too over the top. You must understand the whole concept of Superman his whole back story and whole future story is meant to be fantasy. If it was just a regular normal show it would be what One Tree Hill is.

I'm not saying to make Smallville a teen drama. I'm saying that there should be realistic elements in the show. Here are some of the fantasy elements of the show:

1) Clark doesn't suffer any consequences from his actions

2) Everyone who knows Clark's secret is dead or has had his mind erased

3) Clark uses his powers in front of many people and nobody cares

It's these that make me feel that Smallville isn't realistic.

Um, it's neither.

If the show were realistic, Lex Luthor would have won by now. Except that he wouldn't have shipped a stupid castle to Smallville. But mostly he would have won because there is no such thing as Superheroes.

But Smallville isn't like a comic book either. In fact, have you tried reading Smallville: The Comic? It will bore you to tears.

I get my realism in everyday life. I work 50-60 hours a week. When I look for entertainment, in a tv show or comic book, I definitely do not want realism.

The situations can and should be as un-realistic as possible, but the way the people deal with these situations should be realistic eg they shouldn't forget what they've learnt at the end of the ep and keep making mistakes in the next ep.

In that respect Smallville could stand to become more realistic.
