only for a semester though.

This can explain why he is in Smallville until the season finale. I'm glad he dropped out, so he could help on the farm. I know Martha would have wanted him to go to school, but I think it's admirable to put your family before yourself.

Who knows? He could even finish his schooling at the FOS (like in the movies). He's going to have to go back sooner or later, though.

It is just a plot gimmick because the school thing isn't working for them. Lana and Chloe will both be at school but we will see them as much as we see Clark. It makes no sense!

In the comics he goes to Metropolis University. But that shouldn't happen on the show, especially since it is called Smallville. If he isn't living there or schooling there, than the show should be called Metropolis!

So does this mean people will be more accepting of Lois not being in college but still bound to become a journalist at the planet.

I like the fact that his priority is the farm and his mother. He's just so chilvalric. :)

We will most likley see him back in school when Martha becomes senator.

They should make the show Metropolis and get rid of all the crap

I actually like the way the writers did this. Clark is the man of the house now, so he has to carry on more responsibilities. There's no way he could do school work and run a farm by himself. He has to choose and I think he chose wisely (although school is very important so, stay in school kids! (except you Clark, for now)).

I liked it too. It showed Clark putting his family first and was a nice parallel to Jonathon staying close to home to help around the farm. (Even if Clark was kinda already doing that.)

I have a feeling that when he starts up school again, it will be at Met U instead of Central Kansas.

If he goes to Met U than what is the point of still calling the show Smallville though?

I think this will be a lead in to exploring the world before he ends up in Metropolis. He will study other cultures and still help people in need.

I liked that. For some reason why do I think he will be out longer than a semester, but than again Dawson Leary went back into college shortly after his father died. Whereas Buffy Summers dropped out when her mom Joyce died solely to take care of her baby sister Dawn. For some reason that line gave me a lot of past tv shows memories :rotfl:.

Don't think he'll be leaving Metropolis or Smallville anytime in the year or exploring other cultures.

Honestly, he could handle all of the responsibility in its various forms. The writers just don't want to struggle much.

I can understand taking time off because his dad died but is the farm that much of a responsibility for him? He has superspeed doesn't he?

Why doesn't Clark just make a few hundred diamonds, and retire?

I think there is more work involved in running a farm and he still won't be able to do it and school at the same time. Plus, he just can't leave Martha alone all day while he is in classes. He did the right thing. Martha needs him now more than ever and he needs her now too. It's good that they are sticking together. Also, it gives Martha some more screen time.

That move does fit nearly in line with the Superman I Movie!!

He could take all of those responsabilities if he wanted to. HOw long would it take for him to finish the farm labors? Nothing with his super speed, now, homework, research and tons of papers for college could be finished just as fast. Clark is able to read to an incredible speed, and I bet he can write as fast too. this is another way to keep Clark at Smallville...

i think he's using the farm as an excuse. he doesn't want to sit in classes at this time. he'd rather work on the farm where he can throw things around and be close to his mom more.

i still don't know why ma kent doesn't get her papa to spring for some farm hands.

I think it has a lot more to do with Clark not wanting to have to sit and havign alone time with his mind (which would happen if he sat in classes) the with him actually being needed on the farm. I think it was just another part of him avoiding him emotions.

I am fine with him dropping out though. Any other person on the planet I would be annoyed with for doing such a thing. I would be screaming "what about your future" but for him, I think it will help him start his future. I was thinking it would open up the doors to his travels.

Having gone through exactly (well, not exactly) what Clark did, I can see why he would drop out of school. My father died right before I started a major university and my head was not in it at all. My grades dropped like crazy and I eventually had to drop out anyway. Better for him to drop out while his grades are good and go back later than to let your grades plummet and have that on your record.

Plus, when just hit with a death, sitting there listening to professors drone on and on about how important, math or history or geology is, just seems pointless.

I think he made the right choice for now. I'm hoping that once Martha accepts the senatorship, that she will insist on selling off part of the farm to create less work for both of them, since she can't reasonably leave him to do everything. Then he can go back to school and the FOS training.

he only needs school for a diploma so he canget a job.

he will get all the knowledge of the universe from the FOS.

so clark, go to the FOS and then just show up for tests at college.

Isn't he supposed to just go sit in the FOS for 12 years now?

He could get his education at FOS and then go to a Kinkos and get a "diploma" made. It's pretty cost effective.

If Martha becomes a Senator...wont she be paid for the job? Hence no need for the farm at all. Put it up for sale etc etc...

He has to help out on the farm. Is it me or would it take him literally 2 minutes to do all the work on the farm at superspeed?

You'd think he'd make at least one more diamond to buy a new tractor at least. :)

ok, i'm going to go nuts. i need to know why martha's filthy rich dad isn't coming through with the moolah. also, he wasn't at the funeral.

i mean why even take money from LL when you could have gotten it from him?

It makes sense to me that he dropped out. Clark is all about responsibility toward his loved ones, so it makes sense that he'd take this time to help out on the farm and stay close to his mom.

Doing all his chores at superspeed, going to school and doing everything else would draw attention to the Kents, especially if Martha's Senator. Not that people would see him, but people would wonder how everything gets done without farmhands. There is a lot of work that goes into running even a small farm.

Lots of people drop out and then go back. In fact several of my classmates dropped out after freshman year because they were schlepping around in their pjs drinking our guy friends under the table just like Lois. Even though Lois dropped out for a flaky reason, and Clark dropped out for a responsible reason, they'll go back to school when the time is right.

Or probably when TPTB think it'll work into the storyline.

Disappointed that Clark has dropped out for "a semester." Was looking forward to him making some new friends to replace Pete. You know hang with the guys.

Maybe some cute ranch hands will be hired. We can only hope.

It's not exactly dropping out. It's just time off. I think it's a good idea. Like someone above said, get your head straight, take some time to grieve, and then go back when you're ready to put your mind to it. The FOS can teach Clark everything except the things he can learn by being around people -- like the things he learned from his parents and friends -- so there's still reason for him to go to college. And I agree -- it would be nice to see him make some new friends.
