A great, great ending. I cried.

I came close to crying during the opening scene with Martha and Clark, and I just lost it during the final scene.

What a great final shot. Clark and Martha in each other's arms, with Jonathan 'watching' over them.

Yeah, this was a tough one, maybe even tougher than last week. The movie at the end....when my Mom died, we watched slides about 3 months later (she died 1 day before Thanksgiving). Times were so hectic and emotionally combustible. It was difficult at best, and I found myself crying. Something I hadn't done for some 14 years. Of course, that opened a floodgate that hasn't quite closed. I am more emotional than I was previously, for better or worse. No matter how old you get, you may always still feel like that child, but when your parents die, you are thrust into adulthood whether you are ready or not.

My heart was crying :(

I thought that was so beautiful.

Martha watching the video and Clark coming in and seeing that and him starting to cry. Jonathan saying "Bye, bye".

Martha seeing the watch on his wrist and then Clark finally broke down and cried while hugging his mom.

Clark needed to cry, it's an important part of the grieving process, Clark I don't think could move on if he didn't.

It was truly a beautiful Kent Family moment.

It brought everyone I was watching it with to tears :(

My first post and I have to admit to a tear or two of my own. I have been through what Clark went through and it sucks. Even after 5 years it is never far below the surface. It was good of the writers to let Clark get the grieving process moving. We watched home movies of my dad after he passed, too...
BTW...hey all...nice to meet you..

I had to remind myself "it's just a tv show". It took me a minute to get myself back together. LOL My friends are making fun of me as I type this. I don't care. It hit me... especially with the "Bye, Bye" from JK. This was the emotion we were missing from Clark at the end of Reckoning.

I didn't cry, but it was a touching ending. I hope that they keep John S. around, and in the credits. I know he can't do anything "new" but new flash backs would be a nice way of keeping him around.

By "new flashbacks" I mean stuff we haven't seen before, but obviously happened in the past.

I think the writers (through all the seasons) did a bang up job with making you feel that your apart of the Kent family.

You'll always be apart of the Smallville family John (Schneider.)

I lost my parents 11 and 12 years ago, within 11 months of each other. I still miss them and it doesn't take much to make me cry. Just looking at the barn knowing Jonathan wasn't there made me want to hug Martha - she looks so lonely.

At the end, seeing Jonathan call young Clark a "man of steel" and his face frozen on the TV while Martha and Clark hugged and cried...wow..Somehow I don't think Tom Welling had to act that one...apparently him and JS are very close!!!

THIS is the way an episode is suppose to be written. any flaws were overpowered by extreamly powerful acting by all the actors tonight. well written. if only episode 100 had been written near this well..

still good job with 101!!!

It took amazing will power to hold the tears back, man. There's just something about seeing a man cry that that really gets to me because we hold things inside... So when it comes out... IT MUST REALLY HURT. Powerful scene by AOT and TW. I liked how TPTB used the home video to finally let Clark release his pain while also allowing Jonathan Kent say goodbye to the viewing audience.

I lost my father in March of 1995 and my mother nine month's later. Not a day has gone by that I haven't missed them, wanted their sage advise, their comfort. On December 2nd, my oldest son, who is not much older than Clark, fell four stories. He was not expected to live, and when he lived he wasn't expected to wake up, and when he woke up he was supposed to remain a vegetable, and when that didn't happen...

He's leaving the hospital next week. They believe he is capable of making a 90 - 100% revovery withing a year. I have been by his side every day. I have been his advocate, his support, and his champion. As corny as it sounds, more than once I thought of John Schneider's portrayal of Jonathan Kent.

Maybe it's because I've seen both sides of this fence that the last two minutes of yesterday's episode hit me so hard. I cried because I still feel the same loss I felt when my father died, the same loss I feel when I watch the last video he made. I cried because, as proud as I am of my boys, I never want them to feel the same loss. It's not for me, it's for them.

In my humble opinion, everyone involved in that last two minutes of yesterday's show deserves an Emmy.

Last week I knew what happening and felt the emotion but didin't get over whelmed. This week though it was played as CK being angry and nobody expected that last scene. I was so touched, last eppy and this one, have been awesome, the emotion and feeling that Tom puts into this character is beyond words.

I couldn't believe how emotional clark got, real tears, real pain. He'll now begin the grieving process, Pa' Kent will be missed but he'll live in every decision that clark's going to make.

Pa' kent would be really proud of "the man of steel"
Clark's going to be a great hero because he had jonathan as his father.

Capt~Placeholder!!!

Yep, I got a little teary-eyed in the last five minutes.
Why not? I got teary eyed the last ten times I had seen pretty much the same scene. The death of a beloved person is SUPPOSED to be sad.
(I was openly bawling during the interviews on Wednesday with Susan St.James, Dick Ebersol and their son Charlie, discussing the loss of their younger son in a plane crash last year)
Points to TPTB for a bit of natural drama for once.

The previous fourty minutes of "Vengeance", though...?
TPTB are still groping in the dark, finding their way to the "ALL NEW, improved, Everything-you-wanted-to-see" Smallville they've been promising.

Didn't suck.
(and that's better than I would have expected after "Reckoning")

I cried like baby. But then, in my defense, I am pregnant right now and I cry at A LOT. It was a great scene and Tom Welling nailed it.

He was not expected to live, and when he lived he wasn't expected to wake up, and when he woke up he was supposed to remain a vegetable, and when that didn't happen...

He's leaving the hospital next week. They believe he is capable of making a 90 - 100% revovery withing a year.

What wonderful news! And I am glad that you were able to be there for him. :)

That has got to be the most emotional AND powerful scene in tv history!

I just broke down immediately after seeing JK's face on their tv screen.

My god, the writers have done it again.

I can't imagine what that scene had to be like for all those who have actually lost one or both parents. My heart goes out to all of you for being able to watch the last two eppys.

I know when I was crying my eyes out, it was because over the course of the show I have imagined what it would be like to have a father like Jonathan (I know he's not real, but the essence of what he stood for and how JS portrayed him) and then to lose him.

TW made me feel Clark's pain, I almost couldn't take it. I felt so bad for him and Martha-it was gut wrenching.

It was very emotional, so very sad, esp seeing Clark finally break down. I felt a great emptyness and sadness inside, but I didn't shed any tears, it's so hard for me to cry. But I was deeply moved by the ending.

Welled up...but not enough for tears to come out....I love the way they cut away from Clark, then back and his tear comes out....so they have an opportunity to put the 'tear liquid' in Tom's eye!!

I cried more at the ending of this episode than the last... and that was when he actually died!

Smallville isn't always known to deal well with deaths well (if they deal with death at all) but that moment was so unbelievably well done.

The only other moment I remember being that wonderful was the scene with Martha and Clark (again) in the loft when Clark told his mom about his biological mother, Lara.

I just finished watching the episode ... The very last scene, between Clark and Martha, must be the most wonderful one that's ever been filmed for "Smallville" ... I cried, and cried, and cried. Even my mom, who has never watched a show before, started to tear-up!

TPTB, great job!

Watching that final scene brought back a flood of memories when my father passed away, so watching Clark finally give in to that grief brought out the tears in me as well. I was also touched by Mr. Kent's goodbye. It does feel as though we all lost a great man.

I just watched the episode for the very first time and tears are flowing and i cant stop it. Reckoning had me close to tears. i choked up but i didnt cry. I havent cried since my dad died when i was 11. I am 23 now and I have went through a lot since then but never cried. I find it amazing that I could sympathize with Clark and cry. This was truly one of the best tv show episodes i've seen.

R.I.P Jonathan :(

I think sympathy is why I cry so much over all the Jonathan stuff. I lsot my dad to a heart attack when I was 13 and he was only 48 so I guess being able to compare my feelings with Clark make these episodes hard to watch.

assess their Accomplishments.

Anybody Else felt that they had the urge to Call their Parents or Talk to their Sons & Daughters?

And take a look of this comparison:
Lana = Both Parents Died. She was young.
Chloe = Mom in the insane Asylum.
Lex = Mom Died and Lionel still alive (But No relationship)
Clark = Biological Parents died. FOS as his Dad. Martha still alive and JK ...

Somehow I felt each of them have similarities to each other as a comparision.

yes, i cried. My heart just broke when clark started crying. I think that was some of the best acting i have seen tom do in a sad scene. I just believed he was truely sad and his crying looked real. other times when he has had to cry, i just never really found it believable. maybe it was always just the reason he was crying.

I don't watch much television, so my opinion on this could be very well way overblown but I honestly think this one of the most emotional moments ever in TV history. Smallville had really outdone itself on that scene alone.

No words needed, just the memory of a beloved husband and father, a mother taking her son in her arms and he finally let go of the dam inside.

I definitely cried at the end.

That scene has to be the most sad on smallville, it actually made me cry and i have never really cried at something on TV before.
It was the music and the way jonathan said his goodbye to the camera, and clark's face as he watched it and hugged his mum.

I am writing this post because simply i cannot stop crying. I dont even consider myself to be a real emotional guy. Pretty much why i've never had a real girlfriend before, I just simply don't push myself hard enough to find a woman who i can share my life with. I feel like I am independent enough to lead my own life without any help and i've shown that in the past. Which is why i dont believe in having girlfriends. My friends believe im a stone cold person. Most of the times i agree.

But not when it comes to this episode. I've become a person i've never imagined. Having compassion and emotional tears.

I recently acquired the Season 5 DVDs and i've been doin a little marathon. and i re-watched Vengeance. tears would not stop for 2 hours after the ending. I am writing this at 3AM at night, just trying to sympathize with other viewers. My dad dying was the worst thing to ever hit my family. And i cried the day he died, the day he was buried, and never after that until my first viewing of this episode a year ago. I didnt cry that much then as I am now. It just really hurts to describe the pain of a lost parent. One of the hardest things in life.

So this episode is one of the best of all time because of the ending. props to the writers, props to the actors, props to everyone for making me something i never believed i could be. A compassionate person.

I didn't cry, but my eyes were in tears from the second I realised she was watching a videotape of Jonathan.. poor Martha, all alone now!

Tom Welling and Annette O'Toole both did an excellent job at this scene. No need to talk, just communicate with touches and hugs. And how Clark finally broke down and the camera zoomed away, the tv screen frozen at the back on JK's smiley face. Overwhelming.
