View Full Version : Marry Lana Now?

Question. Since a life has now been taken in exchange for Clark's, why can't he now tell Lana, since he knows she'll accept him, and it's not as if Jor-El will think "Hmmm, I'd better go knock off Lana as well, just to annoy him" since he had his way with Johnathan. Surely now it'd be ok for her to know, and they could squeeze some happiness out of this situation.

because he would rather live without lana and have her happy with someone else than dead.
that's the nobility of clark kent (or the way it should be).
if lana finds out the secret and they get engaged, lex will know that lana knows and go all nuts. and yes he would hurt her to get the answer as he knows clark would tell him rather than see lana come to harm.
ooh, big shock. lex is bad.
sorry, ddin't answer your question. just because the universe is balanced as far as clark's debt is concerned, lana still could get hit by a toilet seat from the space station (sorry, wrong show) the next day or week or whatever.

Happiness? It'd probably be easier to squeeze orange juice out of an apple... Why is everyone so desperate to make these two happy anyway? As it is they spread enough poison around separately -- don't wish to put them back together & make it any worse!

i have no problem with making them happy. they just don't have to be together to be happy.
i say have Lana & Chloe do a Willow from BtVS and have them hook up. Then hook up Clark with Lois. Everybody (most important, the fans) would be happy that everyone is happy.

The thought disgusts me. It's just WRONG ;) :p
Anyhow, what is the point to making these 2 happy (together, at least)? It would make their relationship boring (and heaven knows, we don't want that). It certainly wouldn't last anyway, and would be an "incarcerated" relationship from the getgo, as it would be rooted in fear (or desperation). It is much better for them to go their separate ways at this point (no matter HOW they got here, I'm at odds as to the reasoning, but...) than to build on a weak and crumbling foundation.
Better (I think) to end it now & let them both nurse their emotional wounds, than to give them a few fleeting moments (in the overall pic) to construct a matrimonial skyscraper, just to swing the wrecking ball on ribbon-cutting day.
That's my take. Take it or leave it.

I don't even like the way they're ending it, because it still looks like Clark just settles for Lois, because he let Lana get away. It owuld have been much better, IMO, if he actually realized, he and Lana, aren't good together, and he really doesn't love her like he thought.

 Absolutely.
I'm still hoping they'll explore this on the show. Otherwise, like you said, Lois seems lke seconds.

Which is why I thought that they have stayed engaged and found out that it couldn't work for whatever reason.

Lois Lane would only be second best IF Clark is still pining for Lana.
Now the question is: will he get over her before the show's over, will he realize they he may get over in time OR will the show end with him still pining for her?

If lex was going to do that, he would have done it already with Chloe. Chloe knows and Lex knows she knows and she still alive and unhurt.
Lex was drunk and depressed and freaked out when he thought he'd lost Lana for good and saw she knew the secret and might be able to find out what it is.
That wouldn't have happened with a sober Lex, a sober Lex would have tried to manipulate Lana to find out the secret. A sober lex wouldn't put Lana's life in danger like that because he wouldn't want to lose his chance at learning the secret and lose Lana, he'd be more clalating about it.;) Like he's been with Chloe, remeber him trying to put the poison in with his comment about Chloe beinga thrid wheel.

I agree, it was another reason I didn't like it.

That's what I was hoping for.:( Not the engaged part but the part out finding out that it couldn't work for a different reason.

If the show ended with Clark still pining for lana, still not over her I'll never forgive tptb, I'd hate it. Because it would leave you witht he feeling he really does just settle for Lois becuase he can't have or get over Lana.

I don't think this happen. If Lana goes to Lex and they have any kind of relationship at all, Clark will be done with Lana and not see her as a possible future. I also think her prediction awhile back when she said that "she will dissapoint him" I think will come to pass and he won't be able to see her the same. He will get over her completely.
The very fact that Lana and Lex are friends and she chooses to keep him in her life is the reason Lana and Clark can't be together.

Can't stand the angst.
This is a really bad role model for teens.
They both need to move on in a healthy way. I am sure the writers have kids.

If Clark had truly loved Lana from the beginning he would have wanted her to be happy with whoever from the get-go, not just happy rather than dead  This has been the most horrible relationship ever written. This couple was never good for each other and if that's what TPTB wanted us to see, then congratulations to them because it has been a four and a half year nightmare. Even when they were allegedly happy during Clark's mortal days, it was still based on lies and secrets.
All they've done is make me want to pin my hopes on Superman Returns and hope that Singer gets it right where Gough and Millar got it so horribly wrong. It's why the Spider-man movie makers were smart to avoid Gwen Stacey, who was kind of like Peter Parker's version of Lana. Instead of wasting time with that doomed romance, they went with Peter's destined love Mary Jane.
Call me crazy, but I like a romance I can root for, not one I know is destined to go down the toilet

WELL SAID. Agree whole heartedly. I would venture to guess if Lana does get involved with Lex, it would only make Clark realize Lana isn't right for him if she could date Lex.

didn't everyone notice the words to the song they were playing in the second Clark and lana loft scene...."It's time to face the truth, 'cause I'll never be with you..." I think that TPTB is trying to get across the message that Clark and Lana are NOT going to be together, and they won't be happy together...sorry guys...

Yeah I caught that song too photo girl and didn't like that song cuz all I can think of was.. hereeee we goo again *rolls eyes*
I'm guessing TPTB are still trying to stretch out the Clana angst.. season 1 they couldn't be together because of Whitney, then season 2 for whatever reasons, either Chloe, Clark feeling guilty, waiting for the right moment, whatever, and season 3 was because he couldn't open up to her, then season 4 there was Jason, and now what's this season? The repeated love triangle only with Lex instead of Jason/Whitney or is it the secrets and lies thing like season 3 or the guilt trip from all the other seasons combined?
I say, let Clana go on happy, full throttle, (with or without engagement, doesn't matter to me) and then break up the relationship some other way, some MATUAL way to do with their destinies (Why did Lana say 'sometimes our destinies leads up to places we don't want to be' in Thirst, if that quote was going to be totally insignificant to their relationship?) But anyway, leaving this Clana thing without real closure is just horrible horrible, not to mention dreadful.
This is bad for BOTH ships Clana and Clois since Clark 1. got with Lois because he couldn't have Lana (which isn't fair for Lois) 2. Lana was his screwup relationship, which he made tons of mistakes with, but now because of his mistakes (that hurt Lana) he'll be a better person to Lois (which isn't fair to Lana).
So I guess you can cast your vote now:
1. sloppy second.
2. practice dummy.

Among other things, I'm wondering why Lana didn't ask wether the species difference/superpower thing might interfere with the...um,consumation of this marriage.
That could explain why she imediately went to visit Lex. ;) :D

That's where it all started in the first place... Starting at season 1, ep 1. Picture this (fictional) conversation in 'Pilot' (Never occurred, but visualize)...
EXT. - Cemetery - Moonlit Night
Clark fawns all over Lana as she kneels graveside.
CLARK (V.O.)
Lana, I'll never tell you this, but I've loved you since we were 7. Meteors from my planet disintegrated your parents, and I'm a BDA w/ super-speed and future powers from another galaxy... I'll keep secrets from you, but continue to worship you from afar and wrap my entire existence around yours. I'll save you from every FOTW that pops up... We'll drag out the angst for 4-1/2 years while you have other boyfriends who all end up tragically dead, including me for a short time, all while you become a witch, etc, etc. I'll finally propose, but then I'll save you from death by schoolbus, dooming my father to die & sending you into the arms of my ex-friend-soon-to-be-mortal-enemy Lex Luthor all by re-booting the day with a stupid crystal in celebration of the 100th episode & then keep more secrets again *see above*... Then... {insert next episode here}
Now I realize this is ALL in fun & cynicism (& I KNOW I left stuff out), but when HAS this relationship EVER had a chance??? Why do the writers INSIST on making Clark THIS STUPID??? It's a dirty shame. They've villified the paradigm of virtue & honor that IS Clark Kent. I personally, cannot forgive them.
 :( :p :\

Deary me, I used to worship Lana, and really hoped they'd just get their act together and get together . .I wasn't saying Clark should marry her, since I don't want him to, but isn't it logically ok now since she wouldn't have died.
. .wait a minute . .logic . .Clark and Lana . . never!
