Gee, I bet the Kryptonians wished they had a magic time-warping crystal for the last two or three days of their civilization!!!

Oh...wait...

Well, the crystal only turned time back a few days, and in order to save their civilization they would have had to turn time back several months to properly protect themselves.

maybe the crystal has a different effect in our world/galaxy/time than it does on that planet.
I mean they haven't got powers there, so maybe the structure of the crystal is useless there too.

lol Just to prove I have to much time on my hands:

If you placed a crystal on a pedestal. and let it sit there for 50 years. On the last day of the 50th year you could take it ,use it, go back three days into the past and pick up the same crystal. Go back three more days and pick it up again and so on. It'd always be the same crystal, just an earlier version of itself.....

Dont get so bent out of shape with the whole time travel thing. It happened cause of the famous "clean slate" plot line for TV. Besides, it was a good way to show Clark that every choice he makes directly effects the world around him. This shows him that he has to make his choices wisely.

Gee, makes me wish that a lot of the world had such a crystal to use-- MYSELF included. Heck, I SURE wouldn't use it to bring 'Pinkie' back! There are WAY more important fish to fry!!! ;) Clark, are you listening??? :p Oh, forgot. The writers have turned you into a fumbling, unthinking BDA. I absolve you of all blame. You were only doing THEIR bidding...

but it would have been long enough for them to boogie out of dodge and thus save the civilization.

What if the Kryptonians knew about time travel but had to ban it the same way they did for space travel? What if something big happened and they realized that they couldn't use it anymore? And since no one heeded Jor-El warning, I doubt they would've used it even if they had the chance.

History would find a way to balance itself, like Jor-El said. Krypton was always doomed, not matter what.

Well... plus Clark only gets his powers from our Sun; back on Krypton nobody had powers because of their red Sun.
