I think the producers blew a huge opportunity to elevate the 100th episode to classic status. With all the hype surrounding the episode, they should have swung towards the fence. Jonathan's death was so forgettable at the end of the day. We saw it in the first Superman Movie.
I would have had Lois and Chloe drive to Metropolis after Jonathan Kent won the Election. Maybe Lois was moving to Metropolis or just going to visit Chloe. In this alternate universe, they get into a bad accident and they are both transported to the hospital. Clark, Martha and Jonathan are standing in the hallway of the Hospital, when Doctors rush to one of the rooms. We see the doctors working on one of the patients as the Kents look on. The patient flatlines and is pronounced dead. The Kents and especially Clark are very upset. Jonathan tells Clark, he has to tell her cousin what happened. Clark then goes into the other hospital room and as the patient in the bed rolls over, Clark says, he has to tell her something. She then asks Clark, how's Lois? We then see Chloe in the bed.
This would have been a Dallas moment on Smallville. Who shot J.R.? The water coolers would have been buzzing about Smallville and the 100th episode would be cemented in T.V. history. Smallville could then go on for one more season that began to wrap up everything and Jonathan Kent could have died in a two part series finale.
Imagine the funeral scene, Lana walks off and then Clark grabs Chloe's hand. WOO-HOO!!! Hey Jorel, can I have a crystal? :)
