What do you make of Martha's reaction at the funeral when Clark pours dirt onto the coffin. She looks back at Clark almost with a very very small smile, but then we see Clark with an angel in the background.

Do you think she was thinking in her head what she expects of Clark, to become a true man and use his power for ultimate good?

What are your thoughts on what she is thinking.

I think at that moment, Martha sees Clark as reflecting and notices he has changed, and she feels some peace because of it.

I think so too. There also seems to be an awful lot of love for her son in her eyes.

Martha saw Clark for the first time. She saw the man he will become. Not the little boy or even the teenager. I think it dawned on her that here was the most powerful being on the planet and he had all the good qualities of her husband. Clark is grown up and she was proud.

I think that Martha was thinking how sexy she thought Clark was!

I was kind of upset over Martha's reaction to JK dying. I thought she could have cried more and been alot more emotional. That's only because during the course of seasons when stuff would happen to JK she has acted amazingly, in showing how much she cared, and it seemed like she didnt display, what she normally did in past seasons, last episode when he actually dies.

I thought Annette did such a wonderful job in this episode. I've criticized the story like crazy, but the acting...wonderful, and she was on the ball here.

The reaction to Jonathon passing out in the driveway was so heart-wrenching, I almost started to cry. She was hysterical, (as any wife would be), and it the reality got hit on the head.

The funeral scene--the snow, the music--was just stunning. I loved Martha's silent sad expression, and the way she looked up at Clark with this love in her eyes.

I have ten thousands complaints about this episode, but Martha Kent is NOT one of them. :)

Well, that's kind of sick if Martha was thinking that.

But I know that's what I was thinking!

Seriously, her reaction and performance was perfect, as it almost always is. Martha loves her son with all her heart and all her soul, and it shows beautifully in AOT's acting.

It looked to me that Martha was thinking "Even though my husband is gone I can see his strength in my son" or " how will we cope"

I agree with Bob Cobb. She's realizing that everything good about Jonathan will live on in her son. I especially liked the touch they added with Lionel circling her like a shark at the graveside and her not even acknowledging his presence. While I think TPTB were wrong in killing Jonathan when they could have taken Lana out and really taken the series in a new direction, I think the acting by AOT was first rate and convincing.

i think martha was trying to be the strong one and not fall apart because she knew how much guilt clark felt for his father's death.. you could definatley still see the hurt in her eyes though.

I agree, she even tried to make Clark not blame himself, when really he should be the one taking care of Martha. You could tell Martha was just trying to be strong... everything from the tears welling up in her eyes but her trying to not let them fall to her little choked cries and clutches...you could tell she was holding it in...Annette O'Toole was wonderful!

That very last look of hers seemed to be saying that she understood Clark's importance and accepted that if Jonathan had to die for Clark then so be it. The world needed Clark as oppose to her need for her husband.

I just rewatched that scene.

Martha looks at Clark, and then Clark tries to turn away as if to say "I have let you down Mom, I am the reason Dad is dead".

Because he looks at her first, then she looks, and he immediately turns his head.

She realized that if Jonathan had to sacrifice himself for Clark, then so be it. After all, she'd be willing to do the same thing.
