In The Pilot, johnathan and clark are sitting in his loft, he had just told clark about the truth about everthingn then he asked clark how he is doing, clark said, can i asnwer that in 5 years, i think it would have been awesome for that to be the last line to his dad, but now they could have him say this at his gravesite? maybe stupid to some, but i kinda liked the idea, it would made me ball

i like that. i always thought smallville would have a 5 year run at most because of that.
sort of like star trek but it only lasted 3.

Me too. I wanted to know how Clark would answer that question to Jonathan. That was one of the first things I thought of when JK died. Wierd.

I always pictured this conversation happening:
Clark: Dad, remeber when asked me if I was okay with being an alien?
Jonathan: Yeah.
Clark: I'm fine now.
Jonathan and Clark throw some football before Jonathan dies.

If you do the math correctly, it has only been four years. 5-1=4. Freshman year of highschool to freshman year of college=4 years.

me too. I was actually watching Season 1 again recently and when I saw that line I thought "it's time to answer that". I figured they'd do it in the 100th. Guess not. Perhaps for the Season Finale (when it comes)?

I was curious as to wether or not that was really the last episode JS was really in, only because it still says he stars in other episodes. Did they put that in there because of something in his contract, or does he really star in the episode...
That would be a really cool scene...

Actually, they addressed this in the episode, but not directly. Jonathan, Martha and even Lois made comments about Clark's character. Granted it wasn't as clearly stated as:
"Hey, son, remember that conversation we had five years ago? Well even though it's the middle of a busy episode, and even though I'm in the middle of winning a Senate seat, why don't we sit down and have a chat about that single obscure line over a nice peice of your mother's delicious pie?"

I was waiting for them to pick up on this plotline all season 5.
It was always one of my faverits from S1 and i guess the writers figured us OBSESIVE SMALLVILLE FANS WHO WATCH THE DVD NIGHTLY would not remember it or pick up on it.
Really would have been nice, i'd been bouncing off the walls (and crying for JK of course)!!!

Aw jeez...I would have lost it that line. TPTB probably forgot about that line otherwise they would have used it.

TPTB actually said on the Pilot DVD commentary that it was an inside joke for the 100th episode. It should have been mentioned on the first time round when Clark goes sees his parents at the truck when he tells them that he told Lana everything.
I would just like to add that there was a similar storyline to this on the Australian soap "Home and Away". The episode was almost exactly like Hidden. Main character gets shot slips into comas and dies. She then sees her father figure he says how important it is for her to be alive. She comes back and the scales get balanced by having her best firends husband die.
When I saw it I said "That is so ripped off Smallville!"
