Watching the show over the years it is painfully obvious that Clark's ability to lie is definitely not superpowered. He is horrible at it. Yes, I know he not supposed to lie. But, whenever he makes up an excuse with Lex or Lana its so crystal clear that he is lying or hiding something. And it happened again in Reckoning. When he went back and Lana asked what was special....he couldn't even come up with anything. So she got pissed and left. You couldn't come up with something like this...
"Lana, I know things have been crazy. But, I want you to know how much you mean to me. Today is a big day for my family. Please stay with me to enjoy with us."
Instead he mumbles about it being too cold.

Point is, he comes off WAY too dumb Way too often. There's no incentive by this creative (?) team to get the fans to jump onto Clark's bandwagon. They have dumbed-down his character to almost the point of ignorant bliss... and in the process make him look more bumbling and blindsided than Inspector Clousseau.
I DO hold the hope that Clark can pick himself up, dust himself off, & make like the Superhero he is destined to become. No more angst... no more stupid decisions... and NO MORE REWINDS.
If Clark can't begin to move FORWARD in his character development soon (writers, are you listening?) I'm going to take out a permanent membership in the "Lex Luthor" fan club. Homicidal Egomaniacs forever! Bring on WWIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well they're not really trying to recreate the character from the comic books. This is their Clark and their Clark is simply kind of dumb.

Maybe it's meant to be that way.
Superman has morals that are second to none and lying is a definite no no to him.
Maybe they are trying to show that Clark has major trouble lying

"Reckoning" is definetely an improvement from some of the earlier seasons. At least this time Clark said something instead of just staying quiet.
