i dont know if this was discussed but i have to say that the moment when lana grabbed clarks hand at the funeral was really touching! that was what made me tear up a bit.

i do hope that the death doesn't bring them back together because i am so sick and tired of their on off relationship. lana cut it off for good and i hope it stays that way!

Big deal she held his hand for 2 seconds. When Whitney's dad got sick she stayed with him even though she didn't want to be with him anymore. Well, she proclaims loving Clark, yet when his father dies all she can do is hold his hand for a couple of secs. Gimme a break. The girl is a bit loopy.

I'm a diehard clana fan, but I totally agree. Enough is enough!

Have you ever been in Clark or Lana's place? I have. When my grandfather died it wasn't too long after my girlfriend and I had broken up. She came to the funeral home and did similar to Lana in that she took my hand as I stood transfixed on the casket. She later told me that she had been there a couple of minutes when I finally acknowledged her. When you are grieving you aren't always real perceptive. I think Lana's move was one of friendship and empathy. They have been friends way longer than lovers afterall. Had Chloe done the same thing I dare say people would have had a different outlook on it. As for Clark, it sure looked like he was ignoring her. I was actually glad to see my ex. We had a real good cry and that helped us go back to being friends. If it were real life or time on the show allowed then yes she should have hung around longer, but didn't it create a dramatic effect to show just how their love was slipping away.

Lana was there for support. After all they were friends for years before becoming lovers.
Clark however may have difficulty even acknowledging Lana, for she will constantly remind him of his father's death as well as his self guilt.
P.S. Keep in mind that he has twice seeing her with Lex. Once in the hospital and of course right after he saved her on Rte.40.

I think what was more significant was the release of the hand grab. She let go and Clark did not acknowledge her at all. that was more telling in that he could no longer see her as more than just a friend.

Am I seriously the only to tought that she only left him a last moment alone with his father, just like Chloe, Lois and even Martha did???

I think it was a much bigger deal that Clark let her remove her hand without even noticing.

Two reasons he seemed not to care or notice the release of her hand:

1. He knew he saved her and her reaction to his hesitancy of telling her the truth in the actual time line and....

2. His grief was more than he could bear than to notice her release.

I think he noticed. It does seem that he glances as she walks off.

I also agree that the biggest deal is that he lets her leave. She offered the olive branch and he refused to accept it.

Hopefully the next episode will clarify whether he was ignoring her from:

1. Anger at himself for saving her and then his dad dying.
2. Anger at her because she seems so close to Lex.
3. Somewhat associated with 2, but Anger at Lex for even calling Lana to the mansion and putting her in that situation.
4. Grief causing him to feel like he has to shut out everyone he has feelings for to keep from ever getting hurt again.

I think it is probably a mixture of all, but my biggest money would be on 4.

And thank GOD that Lana did not look over at Lex and make googly eyes like she did with Clark at Whitney's Dad funeral!

Seriously, the hand grab was very beautiful and symbolic. He did accept her hand and gently squeeze it, thus accepting that she is there to feel his pain with him, and his little finger lingers a bit when she pulls away, signifying that he would have continued to hold it.

I think it was perfect that he didn't look at her while she held his hand. His entire focus was on the loss of his father and spending this last moment in his presence.

I think she pulled away to let him offer his final goodbye.

Oh if she had made googly eyes at Lex during the funeral the roar of hatred would have been unbearable. That probably would have swung me from tolerating her to the bashing side too!

Yes, it actually would be funny to do that in a SV farce of some type - like in "Family Guy" style dry mockery.

But if she had done that in the "real" event, the anger and venom would spew forth from everybody, even Lexana fans I think. In that case, I think I would have had to say "Smallville, you're dead to me!" (Or at least, "Lana, you're dead to me!")

I think Lana's hand grab was more of her saying to Clark that she knows how he feels. She's been in the same position before, having seen both her parents die in front of her so she can offer support and talk with him about how to cope with something like that.

It was a very touching scene but Clark knows himself that he is losing Lana but seems to think not telling Lana about his true self is the best thing to do!
