I liked how the necklace had own little story!

Martha couldn't get it on without Jonathons help and it was a cute little moment between a married couple! Then later, after Pa dies Martha can't get it on and is clearly upset. :( Clark to the rescue! Sad..but sweet! :)

Yes... I also noticed it. I thought it really was a touching moment... in both instances.

It was symbolic... like Clark was now the man of the house. Bittersweet. Then it was even more sad when Martha broke down

JK death didn't make me cry, I was too busy screaming BDA SUPERSPEED HIM TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!!! AT LEAST TRY!! THEY HAVE THOSE PADDLE THINGS!!!

But the necklace, the necklace was sad. :(

Still didn't cry though! :D

I thought it was a great moment. It showed how Clark will now be the one taking responsibility for the care of Martha, not Jonathan. It is a small step in his overall growth into Superman, but an important one.

Big Foreshadowing in the beginning, when they showed JK helping put the pearls on her. At that point, my gut told me it was going to be him. But yes, it is a nice story line, and very symbolic

I got the same impression, except..

Still seems weird though.."Smallville Clark Kent" and "Man" in the same sentence? What bizzaro world did I wake up on?! ;)

I thought it was really sweet! At the end when she couldn't get it on, I was like, "aw, poor Martha!" :(

It seems like Clark has an Oedipal complex. First he kills his father and then he wants to marry his mother.

I noticed this too the first time I saw it...Very nicely done. JK first putting the pearl necklace on at the Talon right after going inside. Then Clark putting the necklace on Martha towards the end right before the funeral. I really liked that. Shows just how much Clark is like JK. Knowing that JK will no longer be on the show makes me feel sad. The show will be different. Not in a bad way, just different. Having that fatherly figure for 4 1/2 years and all of a sudden, him being gone leaves a feeling of emptiness in the show. At first, I was like, well, having Lana die will be the biggest impact on the show but after couple days of thinking, JK's death made a bigger impact on the show. If Lana had died, it would of been sad but my thinking would of been, the show must go on. But, with JK's death, it's like crap, where do we go from here. It's like there's a void. I know it's only a tv show but wow, what an effect his death has on the show. Whatever problem one might have with the episode, you have to admit that JK's death and the whole funeral scenes couldn't of been done any better. To me, that just made up for any short comings the episode had.

My problem with the necklace was that it was a super long strand. You just slip it over your neck when they're that long. I could understand if it were a shorter strand. That was distracting to me.

that was a sad moment.

That was to me the most symbolic and the most heartwrenching part of the whole episode.

The desparation that Martha had trying to put the necklace on was what made my heart break.

That was a great, and unusually subtle, moment for SV. AOT rocked in that scene too.

The necklace thing was one of the most emotionally effecting parts of the episode, when TPTB do pay attention to putting in those kinds of little details, they do it well.

I saw the pearl necklace as an interesting connecting point to Batman's story. Bruce Wayne was forced to grow up because one shattered, Clark is growing by putting one on (his Mom).

I am looking to far into this, methinks

Absolutely. The necklace moment was one of my favorite parts of the episode.

And can I just take a moment to bask in the awesomeness of Annette O'Toole? Holy. freaking. crap.

She made that moment REAL.

It caught my eye. I was wondering the importance of that scene. Till Now,

It's a symbol of passing the torch to Clark as he's the one going to take care of Martha now.

The way Martha Looked as she was Crying All week. My Cudos to the Make-Up Artist. GREAT Acting on Both TW and AoT.
As well as the Writers on those GREAT LINES!

[S3] I started to Cry during the Martha speech after Clark said; "I just don't know the man he wants me to be."

I wonder what Emotional Scars and Moral Growth will he have without his JK as a pillar of his morality?

I LOVED ALL the winter scene in the Kent Farm Especially the Wooden sign and the weird contrast of the New Born Calf.

The pearls were the special guest star of this episode. :( So sad. They definitely stand out to prove how much Clark is like Jonathan. Precious!
