They used the Requiem for a Dream theme in the trailer, I hope they use it in the episode too.

Given the context of the song "You're beutiful" by James Blunt, I don't think it fits. It's about unrequited love--a man falling in love with a stranger he sees briefly, and can't stop thinking of. The only scene I can somewhat see it fitting in is a Lexana scene, but that is a stretch, and the thought makes me sick.

The other song from the show is "I grieve" --so I'm guessing that's fromt he funeral. ;)

For those that are wondering what I'm talking about, it's the song that is played in the background during the loft scenes. The song ends with the lines, "but its time to face the truth, I will never be with you."

The rest of the song talks about this guy who sees this girl and instantly falls in love, but the girl is with another man. The man finally has to deal with the fact that he will never be with her.

Clark now has to face the truth, Lana and him will never be together. Course I'm sure Lex will have to deal with this truth soon enough as well, but that's for another discussion.

That last line is also perfect for the fans. It's time the fans of Clark and Lana to face the truth, these two will never be together.

If you like James Blunt, he's performing on Saturday Night Live this weekend. He'll probably sing "You're Beautiful."

I can't believe that you people think that the James Blunt song doesn't fin in the episode. The purpose of using it wasn't really for the first part of the episode, it was for the second time it played. If you guys would listen to the lyrics then you would understand the symbolance. When Lana is leaving the song says:
"but I don't know what to do, cause I'll never be with you.

And I think that TPTB wanted to have that 'Flying High' part in the episode because of what Clark does at the FOS.

I downloaded 'Beautiful' over a week ago, so it's up there on my current favorite songs list, so I was really pumped that it was on Smallville.

Smallville and One Tree Hill are GREAT at picking out awesome music.

I love the song Your Beautiful by James Blunt, he's huge here in the UK. I thought his latest release Goodbye My Lover would have been a good song for the show as well, when Lana died

Yeah, You're Beautiful is a quality song...I also agree that Goodbye My Lover would have been perfect at the scence where Lana lay dead...

I thought song selection was near-enough spot on for this ep tho

I in particular was taken with Mark Snow's romantic music played in the Clark and Lana Fortress of Solitude scene at the beginning of the Episode!

That was "Enchanting Fairy Tale" type music meant to invoke feelings of romance and sentiment and this coming from a Chloe and Clark fan!:p

I thought both songs were perfect choices. The funeral scene was very beautiful and I thought the lyrics matched up w/ the shots wonderfully. The one that stood out for me was when they showed Lana, Clark and then Lex. The lyrics were:

'so hard to move on
Still loving what’s gone

Just beautiful. Lex watching them, feeling so many things himself no doubt, and one being his heart for Lana. I know it. It was just a gorgeous, haunting scene.

And I agree, it was great how they used different parts of "You're Beautiful" to reflect the scene(s). Only two songs, but they were put to excellent use.

everytime i hear you're beautiful i think of the loft scene now...and it just makes me sad...i mean the song itself is a bit sad but now...with that attached image...ughh...i can't hear the song anymore :\

What James Blunt song is really about.

The song your beautiful is about when james saw an old girlfriend in the subway one day and describes how he felt and what she meant to him. He wrote the song because although he saw her and they were madly in love with each other and have something between them forever he understands that it is not meant to be and she is gone.

Knowing this I think the song perfectly sets up the episode for what is going to happen with Clark and Lana.

not to mention, James Blunt became my favorite artist when I picked up his CD one radom day not knowing who he was.

Slim, over and out

Just a comment about "I Grieve", the wonderful Peter Gabriel song used at the end of the episode.

That song is off his latest album called "Up", which was released in 2002. The entire album is terrific. I especially love the songs "More Than This" and "The Barry Williams Show". If you liked "I Grieve", you should really go out and get the album. A bunch of terrific songs on it. Peter Gabriel is one of my favorite musicians, and this album is on par with his best one ("So", released in 1986).

Also, in the ep, the version of "I Grieve" is abridged (The parts of the song that were cut out would have clashed with the scene). The whole song is about seven and a half minutes long.

"I Greive" was from Peter Gabriel's Album "Us" originally released in 2000.

I love the song "I Grieve", I always have. I've had a bet going with a friend of mine about how long it would take for "You're Beautiful" to make it into Smallville, and it looks like I won.

I would love to get my hands on the Requiem for a Dream theme. Is it out on CD, or can it only be found via download? Who wrote it?

Get the entire album. Peter Gabriel's Up is the best album he's done in years. One of his other tracks Signal To Noise (the best track on the album IMHO), a piece of that song was featured during the opening battle in the movie Gangs Of New York.

And yes I Grieve is an amazing song. I believe it was used on Alias one time back.

the tune when lana dies isn't the theme from requiem..i listened to a ton of songs claiming to be the theme from requiem for a dream and they all turned out to be Requiem, a song from The Two Towers

FVD
02-07-2006, 04:50 PM
I thought the theme from Requiem For A Dream was used in the Two Towers trailer.

therip
02-09-2006, 02:02 PM
i don't think the theme was as driven as the one from two towers..and if it is the same, listen to it and the music in Reckoning, and it's nowhere similar..the music in Reckoning i think was an original score, and sounded very similar to the music from Batman Begins

So, does ANYONE have any idea what the song is?

djpornstar63
02-16-2006, 03:26 AM
for those of you who have been talking about the song "i grieve" by peter gabriel...it was actually on the "city of angels" soundtrack back in 1998 before it was on "up" which came out in 2002.

in regards to the requiem for a dream theme. it was written by clint mansell and recorded by him along with the Kronos Quartet and i believe the specific track is called "summer overture" which is the first track on the reqiuem for a dream soundtrack. there is a specific lotr remix of it which is more likely to be the version you seek. whether or not this is the actual song in the trailer, i can't say, as i don't remember trailer. but hopefully this helps.

TARDIS Team
03-14-2006, 05:21 AM
Summer Overture isn't what plays over Lana's death scene, but it is very similar. I wonder if it's some other piece of music by Clint Mansell? I've not listened to the LOTR mix yet, but I will.

It could be an original piece done by Mark Snow based on the Summer Overture theme.

It was very ironic how the song "I Grieve" was played during JK's funeral and also during the funeral scene in City of Angels when Meg Ryan's character had died.

The music played when Clark took Lana to the Fortress of Solitude (and the snow on top of that matter) just makes me want to cry. Someone said it's by Mark Snow? I'm trying to find it on iTunes and I'm still looking. Can someone tell me the name of it and maybe what album it's on? All I see is Mark Snow albums from Mellenium and X Files. It wouldn't be in there, would it? I want that song so doggone badly!
