View Full Version : So did Lex take a bullet for Lana or not?

My television was having problems, so I could barely see through the static. From the way the "Lex gets shot" scene was cut, it looked to me like he was shot *after* Lana was safely inside. I'd put it down to poor picture quality, except that someone else posted that they thought Lex was shot after Lana was safe.
So... what gives? Did Lex actually take the bullet? Was Lana mistaken? Was the scene just poorly filmed? help!

Well Lana did make it into the room, but the door was open and Deputy Psycho was firing in that direction. Lex was between Deputy Psycho and Lana at that point, so it's possible he did block a bullet from going through the open doorway and hitting Lana. Lana seemed to think so, and she had a better view than we did. Anyway, in a larger sense Lex could have just stayed inside the room, refused to come out, and let the crazy cops do whatever they wanted to with Lana. But he did come out to try to help her, and wound up getting shot. So yeah, it's fair to say he got shot for Lana one way or the other.

I just got through watching it again and he did throw himself over her as the police officer was shooting at them. So yeah, he did take a bullet for her. But it wasn't a very well filmed scene so I can understand the confusion.

*Will have to catch the replay this summer*
I don't think he took it rather than it hit her directly.
but he knew if he came out.. they'd probably start shooting... so he risked being shot to get her to safety.
Is it the same as diving in front of it like some secret service agent? no.. but considering it's lex.. it was a pretty selfless thing to do.

definetley. I was cool with Lana being happy with him...I loved the lexana...every minute of it.

Lex gets obvious hero points for coming out of the room to help Lana. I just don't understand why the shooting scene was filmed so ambiguously.
Personally, I think that Lex *would* have taken the bullet for Lana (as we saw from "Jitters" onwards, Lex isn't short on physical courage). But... why not make that more obvious? Lex didn't say he'd taken the bullet - Lana did. And if she's mistaken, what are the consequences of that?
In other words, I wasn't sure if it was poor filming, or whether the writers were trying to inject some ambiguity into Lex's heroism.

Seriously I put the slow motion thing on Lockdown during that scene : I don't see Lex saving Lana, it's just random.
Come on, Clark has saved Lana a million times and she knew he saved her even she didn't know he was using his powers. Lex has been spying and betraying people in that show since season 1, and now he may have saved her once and surprisely Lana became friend with him?? What a easy story line...

it sure as hell didnt look like he took the bullet for her, looked like he was just trying to get to safety.

I thought the same thing, but the post below explains it for me:

*sigh*
Well, I guess I'm going to put that scene down as "poorly shot" (no pun intended), because Lex might as well have taken the bullet. He clearly was willing to risk his life to save her, and that's all that matters.
"Lex has been spying and betraying people in that show since season 1, and now he may have saved her once and surprisely Lana became friend with him?? What a easy story line..."
Okay this annoys me. Lana is friends with Lex because:
1) he's always stepped in to help her and her friends, even when it involved danger
2) of her friends, he's always been the one who's the most supportive of her dreams (leaving Smallville, seeing the world etc.)
3) he made her his business partner in the Talon, and taught her how to survive in the business world
4) he taught her how to kickbox so that she could protect herself rather than waiting for other people to come save her
5) she knows he'll never judge her for anything she does (running people out of town, murder etc.), because he's on her side no matter what.
So she has all of this background with Lex. Sure, he's also done things she didn't like (i.e. spying on her various boyfriends, getting Jason fired). But he's a) been honest about it, b) always claimed to have her best interests at heart, and c) been proved right in the long run. (Jason and Adam really were baddies, Whitney really was beating up on Clark.)

It was obvious that Lex threw himself over Lana so that the bullet wouldn't hit her. If he was just "trying to save his ass" then why did he leave the panic room at all? I've rewatched this scene again and when it shows them back in the panic room Lex has fallen on Lana from where he was trying to shield her from the bullet.

Clark has betrayed Lana worse than Lex ever has. Clark is the one who slept with her without respecting her enough to reveal his secret, then keeps leading her on with lie after lie after lie, even though he knows he is hurting her by refusing to sleep with her. And let's not forget that Lex and Lana do have a history together of being friends and that although Lex has done some shady things he's also done many good things too.

He took the bullet by simply coming out.........taking a bullet for her doesn't mean that he literally had to step in front of her for it to mean anything. At least that's the way I look at it.

Exactly :)
And remember that most of the times Clark saved Lana, he wasn't really risking his own neck.

I think it took guts for him to come out of the room... Look at the look in Clark's eyes when Lana told him Lex took a bullet for her.. as is to say: " I do that all the time... but would I if I wasn't bullet proof?"

Totally, I couldn't agree more. He did all he could to save her, and what I loved was that she did the same for him. They both were thinking of the other, and wasn't about to let anything happen to either if they could help it. It was a wonderful eppy for them.
I loved how they shared that knowing look before they both went after the person who was holding the gun on them. They worked as a team and made sure the other was safe. I loved how the deputy said that Lana must not be important to Lex, and then the very next second, he emerges from the room to save her. Very romantic.

I also liked how they worked as a team and they both were so brave in protecting one another. Lex left the panic room and took a bullet for Lana, and Lana put herself in danger by bluffing the bad guys away from Lex.

I know, MBCorp. Wasn't it wonderful? And Clark could see how huge it was too that Lana did all that to save Lex. And even when Lana was leaving to take them to the ship, Lex was still only thinking of her. Saying "Lana, no" and then when Clark finds him, and he's bleeding to death, the guy tells Clark to get out of here, but Lex makes sure to get Lana the help she needs. They were so about each other. Just everything. I loved it. *sigh*

I thought it was interesting how resistant Clark was to the idea that Lana had risked her life to help Lex. He had to have both Chloe and Lana tell him twice. :)

I'll have to watch it again, I thought he was shot while he stopped to shoot that glass object, which I wasn't sure of the purpose of.
