Here's the ratings according to Zap2it.com:

Dancing with the Stars" scored an 11.9/19 for ABC at 8 p.m. CBS went with a "CSI" repeat, 9.6/15. NBC took third with "Will & Grace," 5.3/8, and "Four Kings," 5.0/8. An hour of "That '70s Show" was fourth for FOX, beating out "Smallville," 3.0/5, on The WB. UPN trailed with "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Love, Inc.

Yikes.

This might be a wake-up call to AlMiles and finally get what were the true reasons behind the good ratings this season.

What were those reasons? And it's too late now the episode are probably been filmed anyways. It's Dancing with the stars thats taking all the viewers

They said it were mostly lucky :\ , but I also think promotion/storyline of an episode wagers in a lot on how many viewers tuned in.

I wonder what Feb. is going to be like. Since the Winter Olympics and new Survivor will be airing.

I don't think that's right. Those are overnight ratings that you guys are looking at. Unless it was a dramatic dropoff, last week's show did a 5.2 rating.

Well, if people don't like SV they watch something else. WB moved it to Thursday, so if they want someone to blame for lowratings, they should be pointing at themselves. (Though I can't POSSIBLY see how anyone under the age of 30 would prefer "dancing with the stars" over Smallville!) And moving that &0's show sucked! Now I can't watch it anymore, cause I MUST see Smallville! AAARGH!

Depends on the website. On the homepage last week received a 3.2 for overnights.

To networks and general public look at yahoo or zap2it overnights is what people look at.

The ratings on Zap2it go by the fast affiliate rating scale, while Kryptonsite and Mediaweek post the overnight ratings. Their scales are a bit different.

The ones on Zap2it are average for Smallville.

I'm still waiting for Mediaweek, they haven't come out with the ratings yet. But Fanatic did do a 5.2 rating last week, and the overnights were a 3.8.

Um, these are normal numbers for Smallville this season (based on the Zap2it ratings system). In fact, since Everybody Hates Chris (EHC) was new this week, if Smallville beat out EHC -- this would be a positive since EHC has generally been edging out Smallville so far this year.

I haven't seen all of the numbers yet, but my hunch is that this thread is making a mountain out of a plain.

Yup, @ryb is right.
There's no reason to worry.
Smallville's ratings had been higher than last season, since the 1st eppy of the 5th.
And it's the overnights we're looking at.
Anyways, we all know the 100th is going to smash the ratings [well, fingers crossed!] and we all know that there are seaons high's and season lows.

Smallville cannot be on top all the time. Let's not be selfish. There are other shows as well that stood lucky and sucked out some viewers.

However, we're just discussing out of the blue right now:).

So just relax and enjoy Smallville, without having to worry about the ratings that much.

all i can say is that people may not know that new episode started. usually when there is a break its hard to figure out when it comes back with new episodes if ur not looking it up online. they need to have more promotion. need more comercials for it during the week rather then just the day of and the actors need to start doing talk shows cause the only time i think i have seen them on talk shows was MR. i dont think i have ever seen TW or KK do any tv interviews.

also maybe we should just turn on every tv to show smallville and maybe you get ratings per tv and not per house so if u got 5 tvs u can use those and get 5 ratings

Well, the WB has been advertising fresh episode of Smallville starting Jan. 19 ever since repeats started with other shows on the WB so I don't think that's it. I think That 70's show stole some audience from Smallville. Reckoning should have pretty high ratings. I would be disappointed if it didn't rank in the top 3.

You have to read season 4 ratings threads. ;)

According to the main page on kryptonsite..smallville did better then last week with a 3.9/6 i believe, so everyone can relax that smallville did a slight improvment.

uh, what do those numbers mean? What is a 3.9 out of 6?

Could someone tell me exactly which weeks are included in sweeps month? Is it the week of Feb. or is it part of Jan. and part of Feb. 'Cause if it's February, why would TPTB put the "everything you wanted to see" episode on in a nonsweeps week???

I believe sweeps month is Feb.

I honestly dunno what the numbers mean..i just noticed that this week was higher then last week...so it has to be a good thing right??...could be something to do with the amount of people who watched the show.......

Thursday night is the biggest night of the week, and therefore the hardest competition against all networks. WB has hyped next week's episode so much I believe it has hurt Lockdown, I mean some semi-interested might think there was not a new episode till 100. Next week is a big deal. If WB comes in last with no improvement , I know WB will cut back on funding for smallville. The special effects budget is much higher this year and the advertising is higher. I hope it works out and we get blockbuster ratings, but this week's showing was a disappointment.

Actually SV has serious budget cuts so everything has gone down on the show. The special effects have been scattered and are few and far between episodes, no way near the potential they had during the previous seasons.

im not really sure but here is a guess. the 6 counts as 6 million people watching that channel during prime time. out of that 6 million 3.9 million of those viewers were watching smallville.

jimmyolsenblues

nope trust me , 3.9 million people out of 6 million total were NOT watching smallville.

From wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_Ratings
For example, Nielsen may report a show as receiving a 9.2/15 during its broadcast, meaning 9.2%, or 10,083,200 households on average were tuned in at any given moment. Additionally, 15% of all televisions in use at the time were tuned into this program. Nielsen re-estimates the number of households each August for the upcoming television season.

There have been a lot of articles on how Smallville is the surprise success of Thursday night (see EW, etc.) - it's a show in its 5th season, and during the first half of this season it had surged ahead in the ratings, ahead of hipper, newer shows like Everybody Hates Chris and the OC.

The real concern with ratings is whether the WB will decide Smallville is underperforming and axe it. Given that Smallville has got a lot of press for its better-than-expected performance this year, I doubt that will happen. If Smallville loses numbers going up against Dancing with the Stars, well, that's the ABC juggernaut for you. At least the show has proved to the WB that it can do well against other teen-oriented shows.
