View Full Version : Chloe's Psychotic Foreshadowing?

Maybe it's just me, but ever since "Scare", I've wondered if they were going to go something with the "Chloe will eventually go crazy" storyline...Does anyone else think they hinted at that tonight in "Lockdown"?
When Chloe and Clark are watching the video of the police officer's psychiatry evaluations, she says something about him and how it must have been tough going crazy when he sees his friends and co-workers die.
It just caught my attention...
I personally would HATE it if they did that, but, alas, I don't write the episodes :)

Yes, but when has Chloe ever watched any of her friends and/or co-workers die? She did get close to that in Hidden, but it never happened because Clark saved the day in the end.

i thought that she was reffering to clark eventually losing everyone in his life because he is a Alien..she would not really know yet that he is immortal but i think that was the hint that was dropped there....clark does not even know yet since he has aged normally so far..

Good call, LOONEY, I hadn't thought about the quote referring to Clark. I guess I automatically took it to apply to Chloe, since she said it.
And, RedPhoenix23, you're right in that Chloe has never seen any of her friends die. But, could that have been some sort of foreshadowing in the next episode? Probably not...just speculation.
Maybe I'm making more out of it than necessary :)

No; and anyway, didn't she actually say seeing his co-workers die and that his reaction was understandable? I'm afraid I don't remember the actual quote, just as I missed something of what Lana said at one point, thought that's never a real loss, because I was yelling at my cats.

well i suppose they could make chloe go crazy to take her out of the series for a while. after all, if this show is about clark and lana, the next episode could cement that.
then it would be up to that mental hospital secret operations to revive chloe to reality..or maybe brainiac could save her in return for something from clark.

No I think it is just that speculation!
I am however concerned at the long term implications when Tomb airs when she is inhabited by the spirit of a dead psychotic individual and the lasting affects to her......HOPING THERE IS NONE! :(

if anything i think it has to do with the tomb episode, chloe going crazy just seems a little too far fetched..even for smallville...just think how much she's matured already this season, that would be going completely in the opposite direction

If Chloe makes it through 100, Tomb might be the beginning of the end for her character too.

Ialways thought Clark got the idea that he was immortal when he met the boy in Hereafter. The boy told him something along the lines of "I don't see an end for you." Also, when Cassandra had her vision about Clark (which Clark saw), I thought that also hinted at the fact that Clark would be around for a long time after his friends and family died. But, that also could have been referring to him being afraid of losing everyone he loves.

I think Tomb will give AM her chance at acting a little on the crazy side. Tom had Splinter. Michael had Shattered. I look forward to Allison's take on losing your mind in Tomb. I think she'll do a great job. She is a wonderful actress. Plus, I'm hoping for some storyline about Chloe's never seen but talked about mother.

I don't think it's that far fetched, since it was stated outright, in an earlier season, that Chloe's mom went crazy from something that is genetic. They setup the possibility a long, long time ago.

OK, let me throw this out there. Why did Chloe's mom "go crazy". Maybe she learned one of her parents were Kryptonian. WTH apparently as Clark says "you people keep showing up". So much for the last surviving son of Krypton. Any other suggestions the writers could use as to why Chloe's mom went AWOL?
What happened to Chloe's mom could be a good story arc if it's done properly. Hey we never hear anything about Mr. Sullivan. I don't think he even attended Chloe's HS graduation! Some back story about mom could prove to be interesting exploration for Tomb.

I think "the crazies" on Chloe mom's side of the family is hederitary.

At the end of Season's 4 'Scare', an agitated Chloe confessed to Clark in the Torch office, that she did find her mother institutionalized and the real shock to her as she told Clark was
Chloe: I found my mom Clark...she's in an institution ...and the thing about it is....it's hereditary!" (cries)
Clark: Hey, if it's one thing I've learned, is that we are not always destined to follow in our parents footsteps! (hugs Chloe close)
That dialog alone suggests, NO Human OR "non-Human" involvement!:(

If the writers are even considering ending the show with Chloe in the loony bin then it may be better if they just kill her character off. Chloe is too good a character to see her end up like that.

Yeah, I guess that makes Lois a canidate too.
I still like my other crazy out there theory!

Unless Lois's dad or mom is a sibling to Chloe's dad -- then she's ok. Wouldn't it be funny if the General were Gabe's brother! How different could two brothers get!
I like your theory, too! After all, it seems to be driving Clark crazy.
Hmmm.intresting idea. They have done a bit of foreshadowing in some episodes about Chloe becoming crazy. Maybe that's how her character ends up.

That's what I got out of that episode as well. It doesn't take some earth-shattering, traumatic event for a person to lose their grip on reality. Many, many kinds of brain defects are out there.

Oh absolutely, no question Allison's Chloe is the best!
And they should think twice before even considering, that course of ending the show with Chloe crazy!
Their Aquaman series, is no question a definite boycott with me....I have no interest! After viewing certain unforgivable travesties on Smallville!
I would not hesitate to tank it and not look back, if they were going to imply in the next few episodes that Chloe is having suble long term effects to her Psychotic ordeal!:(

Was it ever established just how Lois is related to Chloe? If Lois is related on her father's side then her mother would have to be a sister to Gabe. Not having the same last names. Or Lois and Chloe's mother's are sisters. Jaime

I think Chloe either goes crazy or ends up dead. Its the only was they could explain why Chloe isn't running the Daily Planet by the time Clois start there!

RedPhoenix23, let's say neither but a "Lateral move" as they say in the business world.;)

Stop freaking saying "go crazy." I don't hear anyone cracking jokes about Dr. Swann being "a cripple" or other similarly insulting phrases. Chloe's mom tragically has some kind of debilitating mental illness and has been institutionalized. This is a real-life condition many people face and should be handled more delicately. Show some sensitivity.

shirkie, you are right!
All of us should be more sensitive to Chloe and her mom in speaking of her condition, not to trivalize the mental disorder!!
Sadly we have reduced our selves by flipantly and carelessly using the word "crazy" for such a serious condition. And we are reduced to the "insensitivity of the BDA himself" when speaking of the issue!
Happily, I myself have only used the term in my post JUST and ONLY ONCE, in response to another!!!

The whole notion of Chloe succumbing to some sort of severe and irreversible psychosis is just ludicrous anyways. Even with two parents with schizophrenia, arguably the worst mental disorder to have, the rate of schizophrenia among offspring is only about 50%-- hardly something "none of the women in [her] family have ever escaped." Also, it's something that only affects roughly 1-2% of the population in the first place... Chloe's got some good odds in her favor. And with today's medications and therapy, it is very, VERY unlikely someone would be so ill they would be institutionalized for life anyways. It would really piss me off if the writers went in the "lifetime-in-a-mental-hospital" route with Chloe.

Agreed!
They would themselves be mental to write Chloe in that way to end it, glossing over all her Conributions, Dedication, Support, Love and Trust to the Man of Steel's pre-Superman Era!
Such contributions to help and advise Clark and her fellow man and humanity can never be overlooked! And if they did, the writers themselves would be complicent and Criminal!!

I think if the writers decided to make her psychotic anyway,I hope that it will be only a dream and she'll end up even more stronger than ever at the end:)
Personally,I don't see that happening to Chloé.She's going to become a reporter somewhere else. There're other places in the world outside Smallville & Metropolis.I think that she's staying just for Clark. When she will stop focussing on Clark,I hope that she will leave with the wonderfull boyfriend that she deserves.
