Kansas campaign finance laws are shady:

HOWEVER, I looked it up and the maximum contribution by any person, group, or corporation is $500.
Smallville is even shadier having Lois blatantly ask someone to drop 10 grand on Jonathan's campaign. That's either illegal or the writer's didn't do their homework.
Lionel's total contribution can't be more than $500, and Jonathan shouldn't be selling his land to pay him back. This detail in the story is just so so wrong.

Well, you've got to admit that the whole state senator race plotline has been pretty unrealistic on the whole. They're really exaggerating the powers that a state senator would have. And Jonathan's rally with all the screaming, cheering people? Wouldn't normally be the case since most people don't get that excited over local politics.:p

You should meet some real life campaign managers... people who are running for the first time usually have a pretty difficult task of finding a good campaign manager... and I've met some really crazy ones and some really inept ones

Then again, is Smallville even really a town in Kansas? lol
Thank you! I was thinking that the whole time. JK's campaign is just as shady as Lex Luthor's. Now isn't there a limit to which Lex can contribute to his own campaign ( if he doesn't break the law that is)?

There's no limit to how much Lex can contribute to his own campaign. He's just taking money from his pocket. All Lionel was doing was just leveling the playing field.
