That scene is another reason why they don't need to rush the show to it's end....I want a couple more seasons....he doesn't need the suit.

That is what the original creators of Superman Shuster and Siegel, made him to be.....without a suit/costume!
That was added later in the 1940's a marketing gimick and it has caught on and lasted even today in TV, Movies and Cartoons!
True!:)

I believe the original poster means the conflict with lex... the running through the flames... the using his powers to get the info he needs... working things out logically... following up leads like a criminal investigator.
but, mostly the running through the explosion to save the day just in the real nick of time.

Explain to me why Action Comics #1 has superman in a costume.

Running through the explosion before it actually finished exploding to grab Lana and save her.

While it was a good scene . it's not SUPERMAN scene, [SUPERMAN would fly thought the fire and save the preson .]

I think the creators are setting us up for some real good slow-mo action. I mean, with Fanatic, the balloon popping in slow-mo, now the fire with Clark running through it. What will be next?

I was so surprised when he saved Lana like that! I was watching then I froze in my seat and I was completely speechless!
I was absolutely floored when he ran throught the fire ball and saved Lana from the explosion DURING the explosion.
I know he's gone pretty damn fast before but I think that is the fastest he's ever gone!

Those were some pretty impressive special effects, like the balloon popping in Fanatic.

This show does have some awesome effects for a tv show.
 I was on the edge of my seat too. He almost got to her too late.
It was very close. :)

Really? I thought it looked very weak in that episode. You can tell how they are saving money by not showing Clark superspeed on camera anymore. X-Ray vision is so expensive we get it in spurts lol. They are good at saving money this year considering their budget was cut down.

Honestly I was yawning. We've seen these effects countless times before and I was having episode flashbacks.

The fire shot just so reminded me of Lana in S1 "Obsura" and Clark's save from "Commencement".
The bullet in "Fanatic" we saw in "Crisis". That's what I thought when I saw it lol.
Guess, I'm kinda bored on these quickie saves now lol.

Just screams no budget and I really look for them to space on effects again.

I still like the slo-mo bullet shot from crisis but this was also very nice.
It was definately one of the coolest special effects so far in the series. It entered my books in the "I have to see that again"-series.

That was something very Superman like, but it doesn't make him Superman.

have you noticed they are doing close ups on Clark wearing his red jacket and blue shirt where all you can see are the red collar and blue shirt ALMOST looking like the red cape and blue jersey?

Yeah, I liked how he outran the blast wave. Nice creative visual. Clark is definitely good for a special effects prop, if nothing else.
I thought the special effect was creatively executed. Definitely one of the better ones of the series.

The suit was developed as concept to market the first comics to the early feature films, even as "Mighty Mouse" borrowed the idea, from there on till present day...with the results of that early marketing reflected STILL today in TV, Movies, Cartoons and yes...Comics!
And I see nothing wrong in that early move back in the 20th Century seeing I grew up loving the Superman Adventures!:D

I myself think that costume is a little chezzy. After seeing clark in smallville with no suit or whatever its way better. Now with this new movie coming out he has this ultra blue and yellow and red deal going on..its rather garish.

Another example is from an episode from the first season...I think "Push". Where the guy makes Lex shoot Clark in the garage. You later see Clark showing his parents where he was hit and he had bruising. Now, he wouldn't bruise at all.

He's absorbed more and more yellow sun as time progresses.
I'm concerned though. He seems faster than Flash now... to be able to open a door, shake a soda can in front of someone, leave it, and exit through the door is wayyyy too fast for Superman... plus, the door should have broken off the hinges due to air resistance at that speed

Loved the "running through fire" effect! I was thinking at that moment, "Now that's Superman!".

The episode was called "Hug".

I was reminded of how fast the Smallville Clark is compared to the Lois & Clark Superman... I mean damn that guy is slow!
Flash is just ridiculously fast in Smallville, Clark is incredibly fast. I like it this way.

Yes!
Your reaction, what sold the early idea and it is CLASSIC Superman! Regardless of the original intentions of Shuster and Siegel the creators of him!
Those guys are of Jewish background which explains the spiritual undertones of the character's origins and being!

running through the flames before they finished bursting, running to metropolis in seconds, these have all been good progress to show that clark is getting faster.
i almost thought he would have zoomed in on the warehouse from further out, showing that his x-ray or vision is becoming stronger too.

Theres also no reason why Bart Allen (The Flash) isnt getting faster as he gets older too.

And slightly faster than Superman, which is what prompts the rivalry to a race....as the TransGlobal race would be monitored by the U.S. Military!!

Yes, it was a cool special effect. I can't say it was very Supes like though. Not because of the flying vs not flying debate. Superman would never had wanted to take the credit for saving someone. Clark is proving he still has a lot to learn before putting on the suit. That's why I enjoy watching SV.

Actually, the way Clark moved through the flames, it did almost look like he flew through. Likely he made a bit of a jump right at the end when the camera switches to a frontal angle, but it does look really cool and Superman-y.

That scene was the bomb! (no pun intended :)) It takes my mind back to Crisis when he stepped in front of the bullet for her.
