When I first heard Peter Jackson was remaking this film I thought
it was a bad idea.He had done a great job with Lord of the rings and this was his follow-up?The first Kong made in the 30s is a classic film.It was remade in the 70s and didnt do well. Why not do the Hobbit I thought. And while I still hope he does-this movie is getting great reviews. Its a 95 on Rotten Tomatoes with comments like action packed , jaw dropping, spectacular.one guy on tv called it the best action- adventure film hed ever seen.
Maybe if its a hit the sequal can be 'King Kong vs Godzilla' lol.

Hopefully going to see this on the 15th. Not entirely sure yet. The effects look really good, from what I've seen in the trailers. Also, everything I've heard about the actual film, has been good aswell... I'm looking forward to it.

I heard his next project is actually the Halo movie.

The reason he's not doing The Hobbit(even though he really really wants to) is because the tolkein(sp?) familly are being pricks and dont want to release the rights to the liscence.

The LOTR had been sold before the current family members got the rights so thats why those were made.

Apparentley, Jackson also wants to produce. That's the cool thing about being a director--on the side you can produce other films, shape TV series (like Brett Ratner and Bryan Singer) and act (Quentin Tarrentino)

I thought it was a bad idea at first but after seeing the trailers for it I really think it looks like he did an awesome job of it.

Entertainment Weekly's new spin-off magazine LOOK had a really great article on the making of the movie. Jackson actually went out of his way to make sure Kong was designed to his specifications and he's added in props from the original film in the movie.

Something that I find really funny was Jack Black studied Peter Jackson for the part that he plays in the movie.

Its a great movie guys. I was lucky enough to go the premiere this week. Its long but really well done and its got a little bit of everything. Personally I loved the attention to period detail especially in the New York scenes.

I think for the most part, it was a joke, but Jack Black was on a chat show over here, on Friday night. He said that he'd studied Peter Jackson, even going so far as to put on a little weight. Then Peter went and lost a heap of weight... So he decided against basing the character on him.

Could you tell me how Peter Jackson managed to turn an hour-and-a-half movie into a 3-hour long film without making it boring as hell? I had enough trouble sitting through the Lord of the Rings films but the length seemed necessary in that case. What's Kong's excuse?

Lexgirl33
12-11-2005, 04:29 PM
Ok, with Jackson directing this movie, I think its gonna be great, especially with the special effects.

If this movie is 3 hours long, um it better have a good story line. A movie like this doesnt need to be 3 hours. And yes LOTR was necessary to be as long as it is becuase there are a ton of main characters. This movie? I dont think so.

But I am looking forward to seeing it :)

The previews do look really good-and the reviews are glowing.

There actualy was a 'King Kong vs Godzilla' film-its listed on RT-they say its not a very good film..and Kong wins.Giant lizard vs giant monkey-well-Kong would be quicker but Godzillas got that fire breathing thing-Id say Godzilla shoulda won.

I never saw the original. Is the new one an exact remake of the original. Did Kong actually come to New York in the 33' version?

Lexgirl33
12-15-2005, 08:36 PM
Im not sure about exactly cause ive never seen the original..but yes in the old one he goes to NY...Well I know they dont show KK's journey over on the boat in the new one like they do in the old movie, but nontheless im sure its pretty similar

LexLuthorMetropolis
12-15-2005, 08:38 PM
Yes, Kong dies in both the original and the other remake made in the 1976 version starring Jessica Lange, which the Kongfrontation Ride at Universal Studios Orlando was based on. The ride was recently replaced by Revenge of the Mummy.

LexLuthorMetropolis

No problem, I'm a big movie geek when I'm not writing, working or at college.

The other remake also had Rick Baker (famous for the make-up in American Werewolf in London and the Grinch) donning a Kong suit. Kong was basically one part mechnical and another part Baker in a suit a la Godzilla. Kong traditionalist hate the film for being stuck in the 70s and how it takes its stance.

Here's some even more interesting facts:

Time for the original: 100 minutes (later shortened by censors)
Time for the 1976 remake: 135 minutes.
Time for the 2005 remake: 180 minutes (est.)

Lexgirl33
12-15-2005, 08:50 PM
yeah 180 minutes was long but it was worth it!

Andy Serkis was King Kong this time around. We all know PJ's style of creating characters though..just gotta love him! :p

I too am also a big movie geek

I heard that they weren't taking in as much money as they thought they would... I guess they've still got this weekend to take into account.

It definately deserves the money though, hopefully people will start going to see it, over the holidays, etc.

Magus

9.8 million. I don't know guys, that sounds a little pathetic for this film.

NewAgeJesus
12-16-2005, 05:43 AM
Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that.. a) It's only been open for 1-2 days. b) It's the week before Christmas, a lot of people, aren't going to take the time to go to the cinema just now, not on a thursday, at least. c) It still has the "Opening weekend" to get through...

9.8 million may not be that much, but give it a chance, let it have at least a weekend in the cinema before writing it off as a flop... calling it "King Bomb"...

k18
12-16-2005, 09:03 AM
I also heard that much of the target audience for the film, which are students (college, high school) are still in school this week. I know a lot of college students who are taking finals this week so they may not be able to see it until the weekend. It will probably make loads of money over the weekend and next week when school is over with for the semester.

Lexgirl33
12-16-2005, 10:32 AM
I agree with K18 and NAJ. I went on wednesday and the threather was packed but it was mostly older people. No one is really going to see a movie on a school night. Sure some other movies made it big in the middle of the week, but those films were waited and anitcipated for. So we will have to wait till this weekend to see the real success of the movie. Even if it doesnt do that great, its still an awesome movie and worth seeing.

Which is your favorite King Kong Movie? The 1933 Classic? The Japanese made King Kong Vs. Godzilla? The 1976 remake with Kong climbing the World Trade Center? or the 2005 remake? Share your opinions of the new movie and the old classic. Do you think the new one does justice to the old one or is it an imporvemnet?

I voted for the classic just because it's classic, but the 2005 remake I thought was very good, but also very long. The 76 make with them bringing it to the present time just didn't seem to work as well and besided Kong doesn't climb the world trade center! King Kong Vs. Godzilla well that's just a funny movie...King Kong gets strengthned by electricity and that's the only way he can beat Godzilla.

I like the '76 one, too and that's because it was the most memorable one for me. I went to the theater and seen it and since I was a kid, it made a favorable impression on me. I really don't care for too many remakes of a movie because for me, it loses its genuineness.

Movie made $66.2 million. Not sure how to take that...it's one of the biggest movies of the year, opened on Wednesday and still wasn't able to crack $70 million.

I saw it as well, and it was good....I mean, nothing much else to say about it.

Yup! Definatley for the Discussion Forum. :)

Of all the King Kong movies, I must say this is the best. The action was heart-pounding, & the effects were fantastic.
Very believable (Nothing like the fake looking CGI effects in The Hulk. Thank God!), definately a new classic.

Havana Banana Girl
12-18-2005, 11:24 AM
I like the 76' one, the new one had phenomenal effects but was way too long and that really took away from it for me. I should point out that I mean it was "pointlessly" long. (the longer the better in a great film) Now King Kong vs. Godzilla- you gotta love that ... that "is" just funny!!! :)

I blame the length - 3 hours means that fanatics can ONLY see it 8 times a day. :)

I just saw it today. Man, am I sleepy.

I did not like the ending. Kong climbs up the Empire State Building (classic). Ann and Kong share a tender moment. For like an hour. Then the planes come. Then while they're circling around, Ann and Kong squeeze in another tender moment. This one's half an hour, and the planes come back. Repeat.

The movie as a whole was good... but way too long. There were several scenes that could have been cut and sequences that could stand to be short - not to mention those moments Ann and Kong share in the middle of action scenes.

I admit that the movie is a bit long, but the movie is so entertainig that you don't realize that you spent 3 hours in a movie teather. I think the movie is great, the action sequences are all impresive and the effects. I think the most outstanding thing about the movie is that it manages to be touching. You end feeling sorry for the ape, the most beautiful scenes are when Anne and Kong are watching the sunset in the island and when they are playing in the snow at Central park.

I think the best part of the movie (the only scene I'll watch) is them on the island after Kong got the girl. I love him fighting the dinosaurs, her making him laugh, and the emotional scene where she doesn't want them to hurt him. I think you get a different effect when you watch it in a dark movie theater. Sitting at home watching it for the first time on a 27 inch T.V. and trying to follow everyone's storyline got tiresome for me. Then he started kicking butt and that was really cool.

I just saw King Kong two days ago (my brother made me watch it), and I must say I didn't regret it in the least. I really wasn't expecting it to be so good! So much action throughout the whole movie. It was definitely an eye-catcher.

The only thing that I didn't particularly like about it was how long it was. 3 hours?! No thanks. I get enough of that from Lord of the Rings.

I just saw King Kong on DVD a few days ago. IT was a great moive! Didn't feel that long at all, of course I'm miss watch LOTR ten million times so...

I really liked who Peter Jackon and co made the Ann/Kong relationship so much more realist (as one such story can be), cause I'm not a huge fan of the story. I am now but that's only because of how great this moive was.

WHen Kong first met Ann, I think becasue didn't act as the others had (dancing) he liked her more. She really was like a toy to him for a while and he didn't want the T-rax eating his new toy but then she sat with him and they kinda bonded and since he's the last of his kind he's really lonely.

I think he was trying to save her from her own kind and saw the writter as another male going to take away his female where the others he saw as thigns that would hurt her like the t-rax.

You know I forgot that it was Jack Black, he really was good in this flim.
