And of course there's a sequel following this that they shot back-to-back.
I just want to see Keira Knightley again. She was hot in the first one. I really don't even care about the plot, just want to see her.

Here's the thing that has me hooked about the next two chapters is we have Barbossa and his crew back and a new villian, that will probably play into the two part set-up.

Why is Barbossa back if he's dead?
TMLS' BROTHER
12-15-2005, 12:52 PM
Barbosa was always dead, wasn't he? and do you really think they'd let such a big plot hole like that occur?
LexLuthorMetropolis
12-15-2005, 01:04 PM
The curse was lifted but I think they've found a loophole for the next two.
AlexanderTheGreat
12-15-2005, 01:05 PM
Pintel is the pirate that captures Elizabeth and brings her to the Pearl. Not the one with the wooden eye. That's Ragetti. Pintel is that fatish one.

Besides it would only seem logical to bring back the characters that we loved from the first movie.

But barbossa is dead. He can't return.
LexLuthorMetropolis

Try and tell that to Disney. He also appears on the updated PotC ride at both DisneyLand and DisneyWorld.
Just goes to show you that you can never count a character(s) out.
Could anyone tell me how that ride at Disney World is? I went there two summers ago, but can't remember what that ride was like. I'm pretty sure I went on it too.

I think this movie will be worth seeing and owning. :) I think Johnny Depp had a lot to do with the popularity of this movie. He's just an incredible actor. He got this character and made it into his own. Who else could you picture to be Captain Jack Sparrow?
Lex'sLover
04-19-2006, 05:54 PM
i know.. they didnt want him to do it like that at first. Disney was all worried cause the character was "Flamboyent" to put it suttle.... and ya.. he wouldnt compromise it... and it came out like that.. and he made the movie what it is. he is incredible. Without johnny it wouldnt be half as good cause the character of jack was amazing.
Lexgirl33
04-20-2006, 11:02 AM
I agree, JD was excellent!! After all he did get nominated for an Oscar for his part as Jack Sparrow, so its obvious that he is one specatular Actor and should eventually win an Oscar. Pisses me off he hasnt won yet because his roles are so diverse. He can take on any role and just blow you away with it. Jack makes the movie with his humor..I am looking forward to this movie a ton..it can't come soon enough.
Lex'sLover
04-20-2006, 12:49 PM
i know.. i was hoping he would get an oscar too.. but the thing is.. he said he sisnt want to win one... he doesnt buy into all that.. he just likes doing what he is doing and doesnt want to be considered as that 'serious' type of actor. Though it still would have been nice to see him win it. He always has amazing roles. I mean.. what about George Jung? in blow? that was amazing. Among other roles.

Don't ever let a movie critic tell you what or what not to see cause there view don't reflect the people. I saw it and it was a great movie better than Superman Returns I caught the first showing at movie theather in a packed audience and when it was it had great applauds.

I only let reviews effect my decision when I don't really want to see the movie in the first place. In this case, I have no interest in POTC2 *and* it's getting bad reviews, so I'm not gonna see it until it hits DVD. I doubt any movie until Spiderman 3 is going to be better than Superman Returns for me, either way, though. And not only do the critics agree with me on POTC2 versus SR, but the regular joes who are reviewing the movie for fun under the "user review" section seem to like SR a wee bit better too.

I found superman a great movie but I also found POTC2 waaay better. Besides all the citicts I know of write the horrible movies good reviews and the good movies bad reviews. NEVER RELLY ON CRITICTS TO JUDGE MOVIES!

Yes it has gotten some pretty bad reviews, but I guess it didnt stop ppl from going-as it set an opening day record of 55 million bucks! It could net 120 mill in its 1st weekend-almost as much as SR has so far in 10 days.

I'll rather ignore a critics review and go see a bad movie(Ultraviolet) the let a Critic talk me out of a good movie. Also MidgardDragon I would tell you that POTC 2 is better than Superman Return but a few said it before I could. Superman may have been good but the special fx wasn't as good as the smallville effects were to me.

i cant really compare this movie to superman returns b/c even though i enjoyed SR, i wasnt impressed by it at all. it just met my expectations, same goes for POC2 it didnt surpass what i thought it should and would be.
Both movies are over 2hrs and are enjoyable, but even though both movies rocked, i could have waited to see either.
In SR's case, the comics set the bar pretty high. And the story for 'POC curse of the black pearl' set the bar high for the sequel. But POC 2 is in no way a bad movie. Its being drilled everywhere i look and i cant help but laugh because you'd think the movie was unwatchable the way its been reviewed, i saw it had a D+ in Entertainment Weekly lol

Ign.com gave it a good score.
As for me I saw the movie today and it was ok. Better than the first one. I just felt it lacked direction the first half of the movie.
7.5/10
Rafael122
07-08-2006, 07:42 PM
7.5 sounds good. I thought the plot was very confusing. You don't understand it until maybe 3/4 through the movie...understand the plot completely I mean.
Are we assuming that Elizabeth is in love with Jack instead of Will? If so, thats highly messed up, because Will and Elizabeth click, Jack and Elizabeth don't. Opposites attract and all that crap, but in this case, it just doesnt make sense. Elizabeth seems to like the thrill of a guy like Jack Sparrow, but Jack lies every single time.
I really liked Barbosa coming back.
Also, I read some reports that if you stay after the credits, there is a short scene, what is it?
loistickyfingerz
07-08-2006, 07:57 PM
It was bad. It's worth renting. Weird thing is, the acting, directing and effects were all great. It's the actual story that's crap.
The whole movie just dragged and didn't get interesting until about the last 30 minutes. It's worth seeing it for basically the last hour and the last scene.
It appears the third one is where the actual story will happen, this one seemed like a drawn-out prequel, IMO.
Rafael122
07-08-2006, 08:10 PM
I agree. I just didnt find the movie to be that great. It was a good movie, but the first one is a lot better. The story is just really messed up because you're not given a full explanation until you're about 3/4 of the way through.
MidgardDragon
07-08-2006, 08:30 PM
Okay, is it so hard to understand this - if I want to see the movie in the first place, in the theatres, I WILL GO, no matter what critics and others say. If I have no desire to see the movie in the first place, AND the critics and reviews say it's bad, then I have 2 very good reasons not to go, the top one being - I don't want to go.

Well, I loved it! I expected a half assed job, but i really like everywhere the movie went! (Except for that horrid, Elizabeth/Jack stuff! Ick!) The amphibious men were much more diverse than the skeleton pirates, i loved them! Davy Jones was a great villian. a few flaws here and there (he never used his "Speed/teleportation" again) but i loved his look! It was a bold move, but it works! And his ship is awesome! The kracken was a bit repetious at times, but that's a small flaw! I thought it was great, and I can't wait for the next one!

It's official a movie that was bashed insanely by critic set the opening day weekend record orginally held by Spiderman. It sold a estimate $132 million and still counting cause it's still Sunday so it's already shattering records but it's going to destroy it.

koolness, i LOVE spidey but thats just great since this time around, the entire cast once again imagined that this sequel wouldnt do well...just goes to show critics that sometimes sequels shouldn't neccesarilly be so closely compared to the orginals.
When I read the comments made by most critics reviewing this movie, i couldn't help but feel like they were expecting something extraodinarily perfect just because the first movie (POC: COTBP) was surprisingly successful. Looks like they shouldn't have been as hard on the movie because now many critics' opinions appear less credible for giving it an average of a C-

I wasn't planning on staying in this thread long, the only thing I originally said was that I didn't want to see the movie *plus* it was getting bad reviews (never did I say I didn't want to see it *because* it was getting bad reviews.) People had to start in on that immediately, and it went downhill from there.
And, "not being on this thread" is really something you shouldn't go around saying people shouldn't do, wether they've seen the movie or not. This is for discussion of the movie, in all forms, not just for fans of the movie. There are VERY clear rules about wether or not we're allowed to tell non-fans that they shouldn't post in certain threads or forums on K-Site. Oddly enough, rules always seem to be ignored unless I'm the one breaking them. :/

Eveyone has their opinions. People arent going to see the movie and/or like it. It sucks if you like and someone else doesnt but I dont see what the big deal is. Is any 2nd movie to a triliogy excellent? No. Thats what they are there for, to set up for the big ending. So its understandable this movie wasnt as good or huge as the first one. Just like LotR, TTT. Wasnt as successfull as the first and third film. Just the way it usually goes. :\

Well, for the record? I thought it was wonderful. Well executed, well written and well acted. The special effects were very seamlessly done. I would see it again, and I will add it to my dvd collection when it comes out. :)

Well, I just saw the movie. I thought it was great even though I didnt remember half the things that happened the first one.. my only beef was it was like watching a end of an episode..it needed more of a plot, that is finishes and adds the "big plot" of the trilogy. The whole movie built up and up then it just ended.
But it was still a very good movie...funny. unique, and well made.

ok.... i never usually say i dont like movies, especially when they are johnny depp, and the sequel to an amzing movie like potc. but this was horrible. the movie was turned into the typical disney movie... really kidish. And they made it so they said omething stupid every two minutes. Its didnt have the deepth or darkness and eerieness the first one had, and they made a gag every two seconds. also, they rushed the story, and suddenly brought back people who were dead, and tried to bring back every fricken character they could, like... norrington. he was so pointless. It was just dumb. I mean.. its was cute and funny, but ta isnt how pirates otc was. i mean. the first one was academy award worthy. This one.... isnt even teen nomination worthy. I dont get it. Why did they have to do it. i though the trilogy would be legendary, three amazing pirate movies! nope. i was wrong. it made me so sad almost to tears i swear. I mean i didnt hate it, i just hate what they did to it. You can so tell it was just for profit.
And Elizabeth. Somebody just stab her already. What was with her random hissy fits? she would be all kicking ass and then two seconds later, she is whining like a two uear old. They made it like a sitcom, they did something stupid every two seconds.
And they COMPLETELY RUINED JACK! ... i mean... remember what i said about the ace venturas... or at least i think i said it... anyway... they took all the small funny things.. and intensified them by 1000!!! like the walk.. ya... he can barely stand now, and runs like god knows what. And he isnt as witty or smart and sly as he was in the first one... they dumbed him right down. and that makes me so mad cause thats what was good about jack. And they totally ruined him. he was funny. and johnny still did a really amazing job except they laid it all on way to thick. And he doesnt even have a heart in this one. He doesnt give two shits, and he is just sort of like the random funny guy in movies and tv shows, like pheobe in friends, and jimmy in yes dear and stuff. i mean.... jack is still by far the best character, but they took away his edge, and how meaningful he was. Its makes me made.
but on a lighter note, ill say that there is a little bit of elizabeth/Jack. Actually quite a bit. But let me say now... she does something so horrible that she should die for it!!! GRRRRR

It was still better than Superman Returns and honestly that kiss isn't going to be a big deal cause the only reason that happened is because Keira begged them to let her kiss Johnny Deep. Respectfully note your opinion, but when it came out very few of my friends got the storyline after the first viewing. Meaning they understood the aztec gold and the curse and the blood, but little parts like why is the monkey undead? and why jack turned undead in the end? those things they couldn't get from the first viewing. Therefore, to the general audience of 14-15 year olds the first movie was confusing, and the second one... well that was even more so. Absolutly loved it. I didn't find the story confusing at all, so I guess I liked it more then people who found it confusing. Also to Lex'slover I would have to completly disagree with you. You say Jack has no heart, but what about the end? If Jack had no heart, no concious, wouldn't he have just left his friends behind for the cracken to kill them? I think if dead man's chest proved that Jack really was a good person and has heart.

As for Elizabeth it just one of those thing were we were shocked when it happened but we should of expected this.(Spoilers)
1. When they found Will she knew he had a pirate connection but she hid it.
2. Has a facination with pirates knowing there parley code.
3. Jack told her in DMC that out curiousity she would try to be a pirate for trill.
Not to mention the smile on Jacks face was priceless when she chained him to the ship cause he knew he was right about her all along.

i hate the brining back of barbossa.. the whole point of the first one (like i said earlier) is Jack killing him... it makes me mad.. th black pearl barely mattered to jack in the second one, and he kept shooting the monkey.. jack isnt really violent unless he needs to be. and they changed that. I thin what bugs me is what they did to jack most, and how its a gag movie.
But i guess your right, but i think i agree with muffinpeddler... its not about surviving really.
and i think if someone kills you (like jack killed barbossa) you would refuse to help them no matter what... especially if you are someone like barbossa.. i mean.. come on.. tell me that wasnt a stretch!

It was a stretch to bring Barbossa back but we don't know his purpose yet. If he ends up being one of the "good guys" that will piss me off. He was evil in the COTBP so lets keep it that way. The only reason I see Barbossa helping out is if he gets something in return.

He was not evil in the first movie.
He was simply the antagonist. He wanted to simply remove the curse. He was tired of it. He wanted to feel. He wanted to taste(remember the apple?). He did bad things but he only wanted to be free.

07-16-2006, 06:21 PM
You are correct, he did want to get rid of the curse but did harm people in his way. Example, attacking Port Royal. My mistake on calling him evil. Not so much the evil as say Darth Vader but not one to be a hero in any way. He was still the villain of the movie .

I don't like the idea or hate it. It's just interesting how they are going to explain it. I will definatly know my answer when I see the movie, but for now I am uncertain how how I feel about him coming back. I definatly understand you though how he should stay dead. For the most part I would agree with that person staying dead. I just think they will have to come up with a really good story for him to still be alive. Im guess the lady that lives on the river brought him back to life with some witch craft. Which IMO is so stupid.

Well if you see the first movie again, in the final scene you see the monkey return to the chest and steal a piece of Aztec gold. That explains why the monkey is an undead monkey, but what if for a moment the curse returned to Barbossa and allowed him to heal or come back to life?
He was shot. This is true. However, that does not mean he was dead. People are shot and left for dead every day.
There are a hundred possibilities to why Barbossa is alive, and I am curious to see which one it is.
Lex'sLover
07-17-2006, 08:57 AM
i still find it very corny and irritating. I never realized that about the monkey, so it does explain that. But jack shouldnt be shooting him like that.. jackisnt violent, undead monkey or not. That just my opinion though.
And to me Barbossa should still be dead.. it woul have to take something amazing to make me accept the fact that he isnt.
Lexgirl33
07-17-2006, 09:06 AM
I didnt notice the monkey stole a piece of gold, so thats probabaly a big part of why the monkey is still undead and why Barbossa probably didnt even die
Lex'sLover
07-17-2006, 12:34 PM
well. it was after the credits im pretty sure... i dont think that has anything to do with barbossa though, cause after all the gold is brought back, doesnt it mean, that they all can die again, and if someone steals it after, it doesnt include them does it? Cause they dont have the gold anymore, and all the blood had been given.
But i dont know.. you could be right. It would explain it. I still think its wrong though. he shouldnt have survived

I really don't think i can give an opinion on Barbossa's resurrection, not until world's end comes out. I do think it was a great surprise, because I had absolutely no idea he'd come back and hadn't peeked at the acting credits, so I got that "No way!" feeling in the theater!

I seriously doubt that Barbossa being alive has anything to do with the curse. In fact I even doubt that Barbossa is entirely alive. But for a moment, let's assume he is. Tia Delma said that in order to navigate the waters at the World's End, they'll need someone who knows those waters... and then Barbossa came down. How would he know anything about the World's End unless he's been there before... unless he himself had to come back from the dead? That's assuming that those claimed by the sea are sent to the World's End.
But what really got me thinking were Tia Delma's words when she said that she can help Will and Co. bring both Jack AND the Pearl back. Pearl is an inanimate object... it doesn't have a soul, so why would it be at World's End? Perhaps I've been wrong in assuming that they need to travel to the end of the world to rescue Jack... perhaps they just need to go there to get somethign to control the Kraken? In which case... well... Barbossa is definitely not entirely alive, and Jack is sitting in the belly of the Kraken trying to cut himself out. And the Pearl... once the crew can control the Kraken, can they not force Davey Jones to "raise the Pearl from the bottom of the sea" again, much like he did 13 years ago?

Although this was not the best sequel ever, as in my opinion the action was a little bit clunky, attempted but failed humor most of the time deviated the already-not-too good plot, I think this movie set up one of the best finales to an epic ever. I thought this movie was less compelling then Curse of the Black Pearl, as it had less heart. I enjoyed every minute of it until they brought in that giant squid. I hated him. I enjoyed Barbossa as a villian more. I wouldnt have minded the Jack/Elizabeth relationship, had it been more straight forward and less back and forth. I HATED the whole I'm-a-giant-squid-that's-going-to-eat-your-boat. Yes, I am familiar with Kraken, but there could have been better ways to do that idea. Although I didn't like the plot to much, and I hated the disloyalty in Jack, I really love the color and the lighting. Even though it was a weird plot, I liked the whole scandal to save Jack, who was still a traitor anyways. Not a bad movie, just not as strong as the first one, and hopefully not nearly as good as the last one. thats just my opinion, please don't trash it.

Okay, I saw it. I had more fun with this one than I did with X3 . However, it was so-so. I couldn't stand Elizabeth in this one. That sleeze . Will deserves better than that. I don't even know why she was in this freakin' movie. She just bugged. I thought how they intertwined Will's storyline with his destiny and his father was a good subplot. While Elizabeth and that compass constantly pointing at Jack...grrr. Even before that kiss she was digging him. It was neat to see the Commandor again, and I knew he would have the heart at the very end.
Plus did they ever say why Jack went to Davy Jones in the first place? Was to just command the Black Pearl in exchange for eternity on the Flying Dutchman? At times I felt the exposition scenes weren't writtened very well. At times I was following it, and then the next exposition it was hard to follow with the previous one. Plus all the subplots really didn't intertwine very well in this one. It was too jumbled.
I did like the action with the wheel that had the three-way duel . The native after the boys, and the crew in the ball . That was fun. The Kracken was kinda annoying after awhile, and the CGI of it's mouth I thought was really faulty. The CGI on the Davy Jones was really good though.
Not to mention I'm glad I didn't take my little sister to see it. Some parts would have really scared her, such as the crows getting the eyes out of prisoners sockets just like in tha actual Grimm's Cinderella. The movie was alright, but it seemed too long since it was so jumbled, and Elizabeth really pissed me off .

Personally, I loved the movie personally thought it was better then COTBP but that's just me. I have yet to read spoilers for the third movie that I didn't already know... from watching the second part 6 times now? uhh addicted.

I guess you also hate the fact that this movie was number 1 three weekends in a row and broke the records for most sales on the weekend.

no, i just was expecting more out of it. i loved the first one and this one just didn't measure up to that in my opinion. i just thought that it was dissapointing. just a simple matter of opinion. i seem to remember when that was allowed on these boards but i guess that has changed.

Um no your personal opinions arent allowed
I agree with you that it didnt measure up to the first one. But I still enjoyed it. The first time I saw it, I didnt understand it as well and thought it could have been better. The second time I like it a lot more. It still wont compare up to the first film though.

there were a few parts of it that were enjoyable. i just felt like they dumbed down the character of cap n jack sparrow. i was also bored....a lot. and that shouldn't happen in a movie of that one's supposed caliber.

I thought this was more of a kid's movie where as the first one I really enjoyed. I guess I was too pumped up to watch the second one and left the theater pretty much disappointed.

I certainly hated that. It makes me feel the world is either losing it's mind or is willing to be spoonfed the same unthinking crap by Hollywood. Mediocre action movies don't deserve to break box-office records, but I guess I better get used to the dumbing down of movies after POTC2's success.

What you have to remember about this trilogy that it wasn't meant to be a trilogy. Disney wa surprised that it was a hit and demanded more of the movies. So it is kind of hard to continue the adventues when it wasn't meant to be another. Also in triloges sometimes th second movie usually sucks because it prepares for the third which will be mind blowig. Hopefully, the third movie will be better than the second.

At World's End will rock.
Oh and another fun note Dead Man's Chest is the #3 highest grossing movie worldwide and its only under Return of the King and Titanic :)
