I voted for "Hidden".
For the following reasons:
- Clark learns there are consequences to his decisions.
- That awesome jump/partial flight to the missile scene.
- Clark finally trusting Chloe enough to confide in her.
- We learn that Jor-El is using Lionel as a vessel.
- Angst free Clark and Lana
- Lex finally gets a clue and realizes that Clark's death and rebirth are not normal and then relating that to Lana.
In all I found it a good episode, but not perfect. Clark just abandons Chloe after she's kidnapped by the psycho murderer and that Clark/Lana hug after he returns from the FOS looks weird.
"Solitude" is a very close second in my opinion and maybe "Mortal" and all the rest in no particular order. I have to say that I have sincerely enjoyed every episode this season so far and they've managed to hit a lot of high notes every episode -- the mythos, Clark learning there is much more to Chloe then he realizes and her earning his trust and respect, angst free Clark and Lana, Brainiac, continuity (hopefully intended), and the beginning of the end for Lex and Clark. Tom's best work was definitely in "Splinter" and he managed to really freak me out.
On the critical side the parents and Lionel haven't been seen much (except for "Splinter" really) and while I find it extremely intriguing the stong hints of coming Lexana are sure to turn off a few fans. Continuing the criticism, Lana and Lois have no real purpose and Clark's character development seemed to regress at the beginning of the season when lessons learned from the past had to be relearned. With a cast of eight, an almost maniacal fase base for select characters and pairings, and the mythology of a beloved comic book hero in your hands its hard to please everyone.

I cannot decide between Arrival, Hidden, Mortal, Splinter, or Solitude.

I voted Arrival. I was so blown away by it after months of waiting. Great episode. I know, some parts were rushed/quick, but I thought it was a brilliant episode.
Mortal, Hidden, Splinter and Solitude were all good as well. :)

Splinter
Splinter blew me away. The episode was focused, well written, well acted, and well paced. Plus it looked terrific (kudos to David Willson, Barry Donlevy, and James Marshall for that).
Splinter contains every reason why I watch that show: It was fun, it was exciting, it was suspenseful, and it was epic. And the character interaction and ensemble acting were tremendous. This is not only my favorite episode of the season; it is one of my favorites of the whole series.

Has to be Splinter for me for the following reasons.
1. When I first heard about 'Silver Kryptonite' I was scepticle that they were introducing a new type. We've seen Green, Red and Black and I thought it was getting out of control and there fore had not much hope for this episode.
I was VERY wrong.
2. Welling shone in this episode, and played out Clark's paranoia very well. He had the nervous twitches and stutters down to a tee. And well done to the make up team.
3. We saw that Lex still cares about Clark. His 'evil' side is still in development, but the fact that he truly wanted to help Clark brought me back to the season 1 Lex days.

Arrival was best, but i do think it could've been better after all that anticipation (mainly the fight between Clark and the 2 Kryptonians).
I disagree with Splinter being better than Solitude...we've all been waiting for that ultimate FOS showdown since Fine appeared. And it had the only glimpse of Zod i think we'll see.
LionelLuthor
11-28-2005, 06:12 AM
I was actually dissapointed by the 'ultimate showdown' in the FOS. The fight itself was way too quick, but luckily it was a long scene featuring the FOS.
Im not worrying though- you know Fine will be back to fight another day, and this time he'll be upgraded.
I'm hoping for a cliffhanger fight like Exile/Phoenix- that fight was the best!

I cannot choose all the episode this year were amazing.
The only problems I found were:
The kryptonians battle in "Arrival" should have been so much better.
The bad guys in "Mortal" were kinda hilariously yet incredibly badly written.
I found nothing wrong with 'Hidden"
The guy that played Aquaman in "Aqua", though cute, his acting was like cardboard.
"Thirst" was a crazy episode though the vampires were pathetic compared to the Buffy and Angel vampires we're used to. Although it WAS a Halloween themed episode, so I guess it can be excused.
I found nothing wrong with Exposed except for the hyped Dukes car "jump", that was almost nothing.
Splinter was brillant! I wouldn't change a thing.
For "Solitude" I'd put maybe a bigger Clark and Fine showdown.
I can't choose!!!
I voted for Solitude. The FOS showdown was really cool.

I voted for Hidden, though I really loved the first 3 eps of the season. But Hidden had a real, emotional quality to it, and seemed to be a turning point.
-Clark and Lana actually get to be adorably in love for a brief second in time, without major angst
-The kitchen scene in the beginning may be one of the funniest scenes this show has ever done
-Chlark, working as partners
-The despair of Clark's death
-Lionel breaking out of Belle Reve, and revealing himself as a vessel for Jor-El
-The stunning revelation that someone close to Clark will die
-The awesome leap onto the missile.
-Clark's emotional reunion with his parents, and his utter devastation at losing his mortality
-The Clark/Lana reunion was, IMO, crazy romantic
-Lionel showing up in Lex's house
-Chlark in the loft were incredible
Not that there weren't things I could pick apart about the episode, I just wouldn't want to. I thought it was awesome.

Arrival is hands down the best episode of season five in my opinion. The only thing I was dissapointed at was the weak fight near the end between the Kryptonians and Clark. It was so quick, you can't even call it a fight. But the rest of the episode was just so awesome. The introduction of the FOS and hearing Jor-El say "Welcome home my son" gave my chills. Plus, the end of the episode was great with Depeche Mode playing in the background as Brainiac was introduced as the cliffhanger. Plus, I really enjoyed the Chloe/Clark scenes in the episode as well.

1) Arrival
2) Solitude
3) Hidden
4) Splinter

my vote goes to Splinter, I had also thought the new form of Kryptonite might be pushing it. I was wrong the episode was very well written and probably the best acting Tom Welling has done. I also agree that all the episode this season have been pretty good. with the exception of thirst. I thought that was a throw away episode had it not been for the advancement of the Professors character.

With a few minor (except Chloe talking to Lionel like he didn't try to blow her up) errors, I have to say Season Five is genius.
We really don't realize it, until we let it sink in. And I've just had that moment. Posting up our Top 5 moments up to Solitude, I'm sure everyone will see the greatness in this season.
My favorite moments
5) Lex blocking Clark's punch and punching him back, only to be surprised at the once again freshman bleed. - Mortal
4) Braniac vs. Clark - Splinter
3) Clark vs. Braniac - Solitude
2) Clark stopping a freaking missile - Hidden
1) Lionel as Jor-El hugging Clark, "But, remember: The lessons that we learn from pain are the ones that make us the strongest.
Always know that I love you."
One of the best shows this year: Smallville. It's about time
BadToad
12-05-2005, 03:41 PM
OK, I'll play
5) "You're my heart, my soul" conversation from Solitude
4) Clark and Lana finally consumate their relationship in Mortal
3) Clark and Lionel in the FOT, Clark's resurrection, Hidden
2) Clark finds out Chloe knows his secret, Arrival
1) Clark and Lex fight, Mortal
smallville_fetish
12-05-2005, 05:51 PM
1. Lional having a fatherly talk with Lex at the end of Splinter.
2. All the Clana moments.
3. The Clark and Lex fight in Mortal.
4. When Clark told Lex "I defended you.. I guess I am naive." The look grin on Lex's face being wiped off after that. I think it was in Aqua.
5. When Lana showed Lex Clark's medical files and said, "the only thing unusual about Clark is his ability to see the goodness in people who don't deserve it" (refering to Lex) In Hidden.
6. Martha and Clark scenes in Solitude when she was dying and when she was cured at the end.
7. Everything Clark in Splinter.
Jellie
12-05-2005, 05:55 PM
1. Clark 'killing' Brainiac
2. Clark/lex fight in mortal
3. jorel in lionels body giving the warning to clark. Just a real great speech
4.The fos being built
5. clarks performance in splinter was brilliant
and a special nod to clana finally doing the long awaited deed
muffinpeddler
12-05-2005, 07:02 PM
Edit: 0. Aquaman calling Lex a tool!
1. Brianiac-an actual supes megavillian that is not altered beyond recognition (Mikhail Mxyzptlk, my ass)
2. Clark stopping Gabriel's missile
3. Clark and Lana reuniting in Hidden.
4. a tingle of joy from the mere mention of Zod's name.
5. "That's why Lana Lang will never love you, son."
6. "I know you can faster than a speeding bullet, Clark. Take me along for the ride."
vyperman7
12-05-2005, 09:04 PM
1) The introduction of the FOS and hearing Jor-El's voice say "Welcome home my son".
2) Brainiac making reference to Zod when he is trying to kill Clark in Solitude
3) The Clark/Lion-El moment in Hidden
4) Missle save in Hidden. I love the debate it sparked - Flight or jump... I still say jump, but that is just me.
5) Clex fight in Mortal
Honorable Mention - Pete getting a mention in Mortal, and it making Chloe jealous that he knew about the secret and got to see Clark's ship.

These are in no particular order, just how they came to me
1. The Lex/Clark fight in Mortal
2. When Clark said "I defended you." to Lex. Think it was at the end of Aqua.
3. Lion-El in the FOS.
4. Clark and Chloe having the 'talk'
5. Clark/Brainiac fight w/ special appearance by Chloe.
Also I loved the Chloe/Lionel scene in Solitude. Their scenes together are always so good and this one was ranked right up there in my opinion. Also did anyone find it really cool that when Chloe told Lionel that he only had one minute, Lionel's speech was exactly one minute. I recorded it and watched it over and didn't realize until after i watched it again that he did his little speech in exactly one minute. Right after he said "Good day miss Sullivan" was one minute, I thought that was pretty cool.

5. All of Soligude, especially when Clark and Fine fought.
4. All of Splinter basically, especially when Clark confronted his parents, when Fine saved Clark, and the end.
3. Lex putting Lionel in Belle Reve and the Clex fight in Mortal.
2. The entire teaser of Arrival.
1. Lion-El talking to Clark and him stopping the missle in Hidden.

What cracks me up is that they made such a big deal about the Clana at the beginning of the season, and then ever since Mortal, we have seen basically nothing happen with the relationship at all. I hate it when writers make the viewers have to assume and take an off screen point of view. Since they are fictional characters we need to see how the relationship is progressing. Season five is ultimately supposed to show why Clark and Lana would never work out together, but in order for that to happen, we need to see developments in the relationship.

I dig this thread because already season 5 has already had some of the best moments in Smallville.
5. I'll probably get crap for this choice but I really dug the final scene in Aqua. I'm a huge Lois and Clark fan and loved to hear the reasons Lois digs superheroes. Sure the foreshadowing was a lot but for me Lois basically tells Clark why one day she will want Superman so badly: because he does good and cares for people. It was just a great scene. (Aqua)
4. The Clark vs. Brainiac fight in the FOS. It's build up was amazing. It was really the first time we saw Clark really battle one of his future enemies and in the FOS no less. (Solitude)
3. Watching the FOS to built as the season opener was just amazing and to watch first step into this amazing place in which one day will be a safe haven for him was amazing. Plus it picked up from one of my favorite moments of the whole series, when Clark throws the crystal. (Arrival)
2. The amazing scene in Hidden in which Jor-El brings Kal-El back to life. The part where Jor-El tells Kal-El a sacrifice of someone he loves will be made and hearing Clark trying to stop it. And of course it all leads up to John Glover's great performance as Jor-El. (Hidden)
1. My favorite scene of the season and one of the best of the series is a simple one - the moment in which Chloe and Clark talk about Clark having his abilities. It was Allison Mack's tour de force. This scene defines Chloe's fealings towards Clark - that no matter what she is there for him. (Arrival)
I also of course loved when Clark stopped the missile, that was cool watching him help on such a large scale. I also dug the episode Splinter a lot and thought there was some amazing Milton File and Clark moments (Tom Welling at his best).

I must say that when Clark throws the crystal in ARRIVAL,
and then the FOS started to form,it reminded me of Superman:The Movie when Clark (Jeff East) does the same thing).
The formation of the FOS was impressive.Does this mean that Krypton in Smallville was similar to the Krypton of Superman the Movie?
Dont forget the newr opening credits....absolutely amazing!

Not sure of my top five, but one moment i love, is the moment where Lex and Lionel are talking, and Lex tells about his memory, and Lionel is like "If I would have know" Lex cuts him off.. "You would have loved me." its intense. From Memoria.
Also when There are the two Lex's and LEx fights with Lionel about Lionel being good and stuff.. love it.
Same episode... when Lex says "You were right Mr. Kent... I am the villian of the story."
Lex in shattered PERIOD... but to be a little more specific, when he is singing to the blanket.
Also when Chloe is talking to Clark (which is acually Lionel) He gets close to kiss her, then he says "You wish" and walks out the door. (P.S - I LOVED Tom Welling as Lionel... i liked him better as him then Clark)
And one more to mention... when Chloe drinks the stuff that makes her fall head over heals for Clark and she greets him in his room in a jersey lol.
dont worry im done lol.

12-06-2005, 05:46 PM
1. Clark flying after the missle.
2. The scene with the Kents right after Clark stopped the missle.
3. Chloe saying to Clark "Ok it's time for you to turn into SuperClark and get me out of here when they were in the FOS.
4. The whole scene with Lionel when he was Jor-El and the scene leading up to it when Clark dies in the hospital..
5. The entire Brainiac scene in Solitude.
I might as well say Hidden the entire episode which is probably my favorite episode of the entire series.

S2 has some of the best episodes of the show.. no doubt about it. One of my favorite discs from the DVD sets, is the first disc of S2. You have got Vortex, Heat, Duplicity, and Red. Four of my favorite episodes. Then later on in the season, you have got Rosetta, Insurgence, Prodigal, etc.. I do enjoy the season. It was just too inconsistent and all over the place. I would give S2 a B+ overall.

Come on, this show is where it is today because of season 2. So many classic eps along with countless solid and enjoyable ones. Imo that was the season that launched this show into the immortal status.

4) The Helicopter rescue from Exposed.

1) Lana being "with it" enough to trick the kryptonians into going into Lex's vault with the kryptonite. Didn't work, but nice try! Showed some guts on her part.
2) Chloe telling Clark that while knowing his secret made her feel special, that not telling Lana would be a mistake. What a friend ... beyond selfless.
3) Clark's breakdown in Splinter. Good stuff.
4) Clark and Lana having at least a while together to enjoy each other and their love. Bittersweet because we know (one way or another) that it has to end.
5) The Clark vs. the Missile sequence. Very "superman" of him.
6) Clark's death and Lionel's "activation" -- a great pairing. The look in Lionel's eyes was incredible.
7) Lana dangling from Clark's neck after learning that he's not dead. Clark has a devastated look on his face -- knowing how much he has hurt her, knowing how close Smallville came to being a cloud of dust, knowing that someone he loves is going to die.
There have been some misses this season too: the fight with the Kryptonians was fairly lame; the whole Aqua episode was a missed opportunity; I didn't care for Lexmas at all.

Mine has to be when CK dies of the gunshot. Damn, I'm a guy, but I nearly bawled lol
Those scenes were very well acted....and has to be my favourite Ep.

Highlights is a good topic Eric :).
Mine are:
-the formation of the FoS, and seeing images of the Superman movie
-the emergence of Brainaic/Fine from his ship
-Lionel kryptonian vessel
-Clark/Chloe Scooby-around
-Lex's starting to reason to doubt Clark in Lana's mind
-the CGI for stopping the missile
-Aquaman vs. Clark water fight
-A.C. saving Lois
-the hint of Brainaic's power by killing one of Lex's men
-Brainaic's malipulation of Clark
-Clark as Zorro
-Clark/Lois investigation team forshadowing in "Exposed"
-Clark vs. Brainaic.....twice (though it could've been longer...honestly majority of the fights could've been longer)
-the mention and foreshadowing of Zod's arrival
-Lexana appearing much more, and becoming more constant as time progresses
-Lex's future vision (could've done without a lot of SW similaries ).
Fav episodes thus far:
Aqua
Exposed
Splinter
Solitude
Lexmas

I went back and watched all the episodes from the beginning and I have to say this season is definitely my overall favorite now. Season one certainly had a lot of excellent moments as we learned about Clark, Lex, his parents and friends and the weirdness that is Smallville but season five has so far been the most consistenly entertaining.
Even the weakest episode this season, Aqua, is still a lot better than episodes like Forever and Ageless. I thought TPTB took a bit a risk artistically with Thirst but I enjoyed the Chloe POV.
Overall, how could you not like a season with the FOS, Chloe knowing the secret and becoming a close confidant, Aquaman, angst free Clark and Lana, Brainiac and the battle in the FOS, Jor-El in Lionel, Lex and his epiphany to evil, the spaceship landing and two Kryptonians, continuity, that jump scene in Hidden and the impending death of a major character?
They've really packed it in this season and it's only half over!

There were times when I was thinking that the show was going down hill...then they threw Splinter in my face, and after that, the show picked up again...how great.
The only episode I disliked was the Vampire one..."Thirst" I think it was called...it was just a dumb concept, Vampire Bats don't really have much to do with Vampires...anyway...
Best episodes? Arrival; Mortal; Splinter; Solitude(except that Brainiac got owned); and Cyborg.
Splinter was my favorite though...Brainiac rules!!!

Season five is my favorite season. I think if the 7 un-aired eps turned out to be just "okay" season five would still be my favorite because of all of the awesome episodes they've dished out so far. The only episodes of season I didn't like were Thirst (need I say why?), Fanatic (Kinda boring) and Tomb (also kinda boring).
Favorite episode so far: Arrival. (Honorable mentions: Lexmas, Hidden, Mortal, Reckoning, Vengeance, Splinter, Solitude, Cyborg, Lockdown, Aqua).
Least favorite episode so far: Thirst

Yep, ask most people which has been the worst episode this season and 'Thirst' 'Exposed' and 'Aqua' will crop up a lot!
Agreed though, even though I tried watching 'Thirst' with an open mind- Halloween episode and all- I found it embarrassing.
"Sweetie, this isn't a movie' by Lana made me cringe.
Hmmmm, a season 5 ranking? Lets see.
Good episodes- I'd say out of 15 episodes, we have had 3 pretty bad ones. 'Thirst' 'Exposed' and 'Fanatic' are not very good at all.
Not bad, you can count them on one hand. I'd have run out of hands last season.
It's been a pretty excellent season in my opinion, but I'm not sure, something seems to be missing.
That Smallville spark has gone for some reason, and I really want it back. Although I do have those DVDs to relive the glory days.

Season 5 has had some stuff that has been better than many movies of 2005. Arrival, Mortal, and hidden were epic, to say the least.

Aqua should have been so much better. I was really dissapointed. Even though Aquaman is one of the most boring superheroes ever, they still had a chance to offer up a quality episode. I think one of the main reasons why the episode was not all that great was because of the actor chosen to play the character. The guy was just flat out terrible. Plus, I did not like the subplot of Lex destroying marine life. Run was simply awesome because it seemed like the whole episode was centered around Bart and Clark, and their interaction. Plus, there was a great send off as well. Neither Cyborg or Aqua have come close to Run, although Cyborg was a decent episode. I was still dissapointed at the lack of action and the lack of interaction between Victor and Clark though.

Most amazing and most well written season of Smallville yet.
The only mediocre episodes were the two following Reckoning. Cyborg was the best "teamup" yet.
If the quality continues, this will definitely end up being better than season 3.

I'm pretty much with you on the selections except that I would swap Solitude with Vengeance, which I felt was pretty hollow comparitively. Arrival, Mortal and Hidden were the best episodes I think I've ever seen and they all came one after another.
I didn't think Thirst was that bad, but that was mainly due to the Chloe POV for the episode. I am glad they took the risk artistically to go with a Chloe POV as Allison Mack carried the episode, but if they hadn't it would have been in the same league as Spell. It just didn't feel like Smallville episode.
Tomb was another episode where Allison Mack pretty much carried it through for us. The real highlight was a grown up Clark actually giving advice for once and Chloe seeing her mom.

I liked "Splinter". It was fun to see Clark act all paranoid and the characters don't know what's going on with him. My only problem was that Lois wasn't in that episode. I wonder how she would've reacted to a paranoid Clark.

Gotta dissagree with you on a few points.
Reckoning was one of the worst episodes in the history of the show. The episode to redeem what happened was the following episode Vengenance. One of the best episodes of the show in my opinion. It had the four things that makes a great episode of Smallville - Lex/Lionel, nice Supes references, great character development, and an ending with an impact.
Run still is, and probably always will be the best guest hero episode. The whole episode was centered around Clark/Bart and their interaction. We actually got to see Bart use his powers more than a few times, and there was a fantastic send off. Cyborg was not a bad episode. But there wasn't enough interaction, or displays of power. For a guy on the run, Victor sure did a lot of sitting around on his ass.. :D
Season three will always be the best season. Season five has been damn good, and may overtake S1 as the second best season. But nothing will beat S3. It was just too great overall.

The season started out start but sort of waned towards the middle. "Fanatic", "Vengeance", and "Tomb" just seemed to be rehashes of old episodes with the characters' names changed around.
