Did anyone else enjoy the paralell between the S2 episode Vortex and tonight's episode? It was cool to be able to see Lex on the other side of the equation with Lionel making life and death decisions. It cracked me up when Lex said to Lionel " How dare you play god with my life" when Lex did the same to Lionel in Vortex. I thought it was awesome how it was kind of tied together.

Yeah, I loved that. They even had the same doctor. Only this time, he was the one being conservative. I guess he's a little gun-shy after causing Lionel blindness.

Yeah I saw that regarding the doctor. In Vortex, he played the doc from Metropolis, whereas in Lexmas, he played the small town doctor from Smallville.

Lex didn't play god with Lionel's life though. The worst that would have happened is Lionel lost his sight forever, Lex could have died from his operation.

Lex was playing God however. Maybe not with Lionel's life per say, but he did take the route that was less safe. So in a sense, he was playing god.

It was kinda a small parallel, but really different medical situations.

I think it perfectly showed how Lex and Lionel differ. Lionel, though he used his blindness to manipulate, didn't go off on Lex for going through with a potentially risky surgery. Lex, on the other hand, flew off the handle. He was seriously angry and bitter, even though his ability to walk was saved. Had Lionel not stepped in, Lex would be cruisin' around like Dr. Swann right now, but instead, he'll have a healthy life.
However, from Lex's perspective, it was just one more thing that was beyond his control. He saw Lionel as the man who let Lana die, and it is only natural that he felt Lionel was being cavalier with his life. The line about playing God with his life - that's the key to it. It was one more evidence in his mind that he should hold the power and the money, to prevent such things from happening.
